I reckon we should keep Yeo at HB, to me he plays better with the play in front of him, he reads it very well and uses his pace to set things up. Short bursts in the midfield for a spark is ok but not full time. He’s a long kick but I can’t really recall too many times when he’s delivering into 50 lace out like a Shuey or Mitchell. Plus being all Australian at HB why would we move him just because we think he should be a mid.
Duggan will eventually get into the midfield rotation no doubt.
If we can secure a good midfielder come trade time and have Venables, Partington take some steps next year we’ll be better. We also need to draft mids and fast track their development and not let them rot away in the WAFL for 3 years.

This is accepting mediocre player development. "If we can secure a good midfielder come trade time"... good luck with that champ. We've been trying for how long?! Wellingham, Redden, Jetta and Mitchell have been the answers. Duggan wasn't drafted as a HBF, and Yeo wasn't traded in to be a HBF. HBF's are failed mids. By keeping them as HBF's we are admitting that we've f'd up out recruiting and development in the last 3 years (since Simmo's been here) and thus heads should roll. I'm sick and tired of accepting mediocre. Partington is nice, but htere's nothing to show he is a-grade. Venebles hasn't even shown he is a WAFL mid, let alone AFL mid.

Brah, it's Venables. Also, are you trying to convince us that players like Corey Enright were just 'failed mids'? Absurd

Saints 7 and 8 for gaff and 12. Make it happen.

I said the exact same thing earlier today. Pick 8 is nowhere near enough by itself, but this I would be very happy with. We could do great things with 7 and 8.

The bloke has come off a massively interrupted pre-season, and was close to cracking an AFL game before getting injured again. Probably should let him get a full pre-season under his belt before we assume he won't crack it in our midfield. Give the guy a chance for god's sake!

Maybe duggan and yeo were drafted to eventually become mids but I'm pretty sure both played in the backline for much of their junior days.
Having said that I agree both should be or become fulltime midfielders.
I also think lamb would've been drafted to become a mid eventually but due to our poor kpf depth he's been mainly played in the forward line for east perth

Apparently Yeo being named All-Australian and Duggan having a career-best year is proof of f'ed up development, and Venables should have shown a lot more in a year he only managed half a dozen games at any level due to injury.

Righto.

If we aren't winning consecutive premierships and all our players haven't won a Brownlow by the time they are 22 then they are failures.

I agree. Anything less is accepting mediocrity.

Enright was never drafted as a mid, so I'm sure your logic stands up somewhere...
Yeo is a defender who we tried to convert into a mid, not the other way around. So I'm surr your logic stands up somewhere

Why?
Because they both have the tools and its an area we are in dire need of.I also think they are more suited than nelson and Cole to a midfield role

Yeo is 25 next year, half way through a career let's play him where he does the most damage and is an All Australian.

Duggan i can see some merit in trying on a wing

I'd like us to and i'm pretty sure we don't have any other option now that the oldies have gone to just give matches straight off the bat to the likes of Venables, Watson, Rioli, Waterman etc

Happy to trade no doubt but we need to get past the fact that our premiership window has well and truly shut and maybe if these young guys come good we'll be ready again in a year or two where Kennedy etc can still play in a flag.

By 2020 NN and Keno are likely to be on the downward

Ah, yes. The impatient West Coast fan.

I also like the “All Victorians are evil” West Coast fan.

“We should only draft local boys from now on. Use our first and second on mature age WAFL players. And get Suma back because Simmo and the other Victorian coaches have been sent here to sabotage the club.”

Duggan played HBF but he moved up the charts due to playing midfield, and was drafted to be amid. Yeo was a wingman as a junior, a skinny, flashy wingman. Lamb I doubt has ever played much midfield. Maybe floating wing/chf ala reiwoldt. He played a bit of HBF...

Is patrick cripps any chance of coming here? Would trade 2 first rd picks easy
