Interestingly, there is strong talk from a few sources that saints are making a massive play for sloane for picks 7 and 8 (apparently sloane may be interested in a move back to Melbourne for family reasons). If true, curious to see how this affects any trade for Gaff

That'd be massive. The compensation for the crows would be good, but it'd be really hard to see them achieving GF redemption without him.

Completely Agree, Blues are a stubborn bunch though and if they lost Sloane they'd likely have to pay overs.

Agreed, though I don't think Partington is clean enough to play on the wing. Masten at his best was a good kick to leading forwards.

Lamb is a classic case of man management required. I feel giving him that early game then him disappearing has killed his confidence/motivation. An early run of games next year could make him as a footballer.

Agree about Lamb there's been times when he's put together some good games but not been rewarded when a few top 22 have been poor, our mc seem to continuously leave some of the young kids hang out to dry and destroy confidence ,but you do hear there's an attitude problem with him maybe this is part of it , is he still contracted ?

Motlop is currently on 600k and after kicking 38 goals this year will be wanting a pay rise. Do we really want to pay 650-700k for Motlop?

Personally would prefer to spend that cash on someone who actually plays in the middle if possible.
That money is the new 350k-400k so it's not exactly crazy money, i think he could be worth a punt two year deal though

Brayshaw is one of few players around our pick i'd be fairly 'bleh' on taking to be honest. It would be a solid/safe choice.

Probs going to be crucified by Monocle and AsterixTheGaul for generalizing here but his size and inability to really play anywhere else on the ground concern me. Not big, not small, not slow, not fast, not an elite kick, not a bad kick, just an old school midfielder. Something i can imagine us being into. Very smart and very clean, but I just don't see enough here for me to think he could be an A grader.

  • Clarks production is always a concern but there's so much to work with here it's not even funny. Worth the punt.
  • Constable's pace could raise alarms, not exactly flash but with his size and build he WOULD be that inside bull we've been looking for, pure midfielder replacement. Also have potential to turn him into a KPP if we needed and could play immediately.
  • O'brien reminds me of a Lachie Whitfield. He'd be a perfect Gaff replacement if we had 2 picks, but i'd be a little bit put out if we used our first on him. He won't fix anything playing off a back flank or a wing.
  • Coffield i really like, has a mixture of everything, is captain for his club, and would be able to rest forward.
  • Higgins is just a pure sick campaigner. Won't fix our midfield but will do wonders off the HFF, would love him.
  • If D.Fogarty slides i'd toss out all plans and pick that sumbitch. Even Ahead of Clark and Higgins. Any club taking him could very well shoot themselves in the foot if his injuries turn out to be worse or if it's revealed he's just a man child and can't impact at the next level.

Current wish list - D.Fogarty <---- Higgins/Clark <----- Coffield <----- Brayshaw/Constable <----- Obrien.

All of these players are better than Redden btw.

Not going to be crucified by me Dark Sharks , your post is a good one and has merit , raising some good points for consideration.

However I will make a couple of comments, if I may.

I get your reservations about Brayshaw and they have some merit, he is a safe pick and if he had a touch more positional versatility then he would be ranked much higher. Will he ever be an A grader ??? , maybe not ......but he will be A- or B + , he does have one attribute that holds him in good stead , that being his consistency , he rarely plays a bad game and he has a very high work rate. The other character trait that he has ( common among all The Brayshaw Clan, I might add ) is that they have a great habit of stepping up and playing well in big games, his father Mark and Grandfather Ian "Sticks" did this regularly in finals.
That said if he if around our pick, he may well get taken by us, as O'Brien rates him very highly.

Constable is an interesting one as you correctly point out he is not quick. But here is the thing he has a great footy IQ and just knows where the ball is going to be and his decision making is top shelf as is his delivery. He also has been very productive as a resting forward who kicks goals, from set shots he doesn't miss to many. Just when he comes off the board will be a fascinating watch for me as I know a couple of Clubs with early picks have him ranked in the top 10 players.

O'Brien..... the Whitfield comparison is a good one. I too feel a little meh on him but he will become an A grader.

Coffield...... Good player just not sure that he can transition into a mid, if they genuinely believe he can , then I have no issue with drafting him.

Higgins..... He is a little gem :gemstone: and I think he will play a part in the midfield rotations. Would be happy with him.

Fogarty... I posted my reservations about him a few posts ago. That said, I reiterate, that he is going to be a A grader , just not sure it will be as a mid, as a third tall for sure. Also a flight risk.

Now Hunter Clark still remains the player around our pick with just so much upside. One of the things I look for in assessing prospective draftee's ( and it sets the good from great players apart ) is that he has very clean hands and doesn't fumble the ball. He is as good as any in this draft cohort below his knees and whats more he does it regularly in heavy traffic. He also has the work rate , tenacity and fight at the coal face that our list is short of... simply put he has a hunger for the contest. Your comment about not enough production is not a concern for me because that would not be an issue if the coaches just kept him on the ball. I have seen full games of him playing at The Stingrays and he is very productive and he runs huge distances to stay in the contest and be productive.

Now if we were in some way able to get pick 7 or 8 for Gaff and come away from trade week with picks # 8 and keep #13.

Then if we took Higgins at # 8 and Clark at #13. I would be rapt beyond measure.

Latest on Billy Hartung on Trade Radio "Agents Hour" - his agent is working with Hawks on a contract offer but not done. His agent was saying he is talking to clubs but not a lot said about who and how close the deal would be.
What happened to the 4 year contract we offered him

Exactly. Lucas made out that the negotiations were on the way with Hawthorn and no hint of another big offer by another club. Hopefully that whiff of Stratton and Hartung coming to us seems like a false one.

HELL no to Conca.

Motlop is an interesting one in that his best is very good and he could be a more than handy option on the HF line with pace and does kick family a few goals. He will cost no pick so we wont really lose out there.

Heard on the weekend Motlops family advised him to go for the best contract offered. Basically you dont have forever to earn the big bucks.

Which is sound advice so who puts up the best deal is in with a chance Id say.

Oh god, Fasolo (who isn't a small forward he's a medium) is a free agent next year YET they are keen to trade him in THIS year?!?

Isn't that exactly what happened with Redden and Wellingham?!

Why on earth would we trade for him now?!

I hope this trade period is not going to tip me over the edge into deleting account #2 and losing interest in the team territory.
