Picks for the last 5 drafts, 2011 was the last compromised draft for GWS. There's some decent West Australians that we missed. Aside from 2013 our use of picks has been pretty ordinary at best, but that's stating the obvious

2012 1st round: Traded pick 18 > Collingwood (Brodie Grundy) for Wellingham
2nd round: Traded pick 40 & 43 (Koby Stevens trade to the dogs) > St Kilda (40 Brodie Murdoch) & (43 Josh Saunders) for Jamie Cripps and pick 45 (Brant Colledge)
3rd round: Pick 59 (Adam Carter), Pick 60 (Mark Hutchings)
Missed: Dean Kent from Perth at pick 48

2013 1st round: Traded pick 6 (Matthew Scharenberg) & 44 (Aliir Aliir) > Collingwood for pick 11 (Sheed),31 & 49
2nd round: Traded pick 28 (Lewis Taylor) > Brisbane for Elliott Yeo, Pick 31 (Karpany)
3rd round: Pick 43 (Barrass), pick 49 (Dylan Main)
6th round: Pick 74 Upgraded from rookie list Jeremy McGovern
Missed: Patrick Cripps pick 13

2014 1st round: Pick 11 (Liam Duggan)
2nd round: Pick 32 (Tom Lamb)
3rd round: Pick 51 (Jackson Nelson)
4th round: Pick 66 (Damian Cavka)
Missed: Connor Blakely pick 34, Mitch McGovern pick 43

2015 1st round: Traded pick 17 (Tom Doedee) > Brisbane for Jack Redden
2nd round: Pick 28 (Luke Partington), pick 36 (Tom Cole)
4th round: Pick 57 (Kurt Mutimer), pick 62 (Matthew Allen)
Missed: Marcus Adams Pick 35, Pick 66 (Sam Menagola)

That pick 17 for Redden is looking a bit yucko. Hopefully 2018 is the year he justifies the trade

As a few others have said when we use our second round pick, it is almost guaranteed to be a failure. First rounders I think are 50/50 and we seem to find value in our 3rd. The lack of depth we have created by failing with second round picks is more our problem than anything else in my mind. We still have a few 'A' graders, just no depth, especially in the midfield.

If we suck at drafting second rounders no way do i want more of them, so I'm gonna say stick with pick 13. Trade a second for multple 3rds sounds better to me.

I come in peace. Dogs would be very keen to deal, as such it would definitely be 25+28 instead of 25+30. Aren't we a generous lot :)

Possible sweeteners may include Colyer. Or Brisbane could come to the party by upgrading either 25 or 28 into 20.

If the result was 13 for 20+28 it's starting to look ok, not sure if it's worth pulling the trigger but it's getting close.

No worries.

Id hope we retain our 13 and land another 2nd and maybe a 3rd or 4th by trading a 2018 2nd.

It will all come down to whi the club rates in that 13 to 28 range obviously.

2012 was a really poor draft. Normally Wellingham wouldn't be worth pick 18 but when you see what was available we didnt miss out on anything. There are players before that pick that have already been delisted.
Pick 18 was actually grundy at the pues would be nice to have him on our list..

“Quality” is such an overused term. Like “quality” used car yards that sell 15 year old commodores which are “quality”.

In saying that, not sure if sliding is a good idea or not, but using 70% of picks on West Australian players, who only make up 10% of all players would be out of step with drafting “quality”.

70%?

We use our two early picks on best avaiable no matter where they are from and reach for mature age talent with later picks and the rookie draft. IMO Eastern clubs will be a tad wary on Ryan and Kelly with the go home factor so they will slide and offer good value as late picks.

Id like Hunter Clark and James Worpel with our first two picks both Vic Country boys, big bodied mids and well develooed physically, both could impact within their first three years before Kennedy retires.

Kelly and Ryan are similar but have more question marks over their AFL potential.

Oh it’s not what the club does. It’s what fans want.

So not similar at all then?

Trading pick 13 for 25 and 28 would be an epic fail. In no way should we be looking to support the Stringer trade as a third party.

Bulldogs have shots themselves in the foot with the Stringer trade. They had the option of pick 11 on the table from Essendon, tried to bargain for more, predicting that Essendon wouldn't give up pick 11 to GWS for Smith.

Trade our first and second this year for someone's first and someone's second next year. Spend our third and get Archie with fourth. Tank the year so we get 4 good picks next year. Bundle them next year for as many third rounders as possible. Collect the profits.

I think he and some of the other mature players start to come into consideration in the fourth round.

The exception being Tim Kelly who I have a late second early third round grade on.
