I have a lot of love for Brown.

Since old mate Dawson left we have been crying out for a KPD and now we have one. When he left the Pies, the reaction to missing him on the field was mixed but all of them agreed that he would be missed off the field, because he is a great club man.

From what we have seen, he has played his role very well in the team and he is the training partner of Mattress Guts, so we know that Paddy will have his work cut out for him every training session.

With a coach and captain who both place a high importance on defense, wouldn't surprise me to see Brown poll well in the BnF in the first 8 rounds.

Having said that, I reckon Steele is an absolute jet and will only get better as the season goes on.

Got to remember that we've already been paying him heaps more than his worth for last year & this year just to meet the 95% cap & 100% cap of last year & this current year. No doubt 3x $500k gets it done

I wonder if Fyfe's form is down because it's weighing heavily on him that he's about to walk out on the team he's captaining, just as they're on the way up again- which will likely send them back down again?

I agree totally with this. If we miss out on Kelly and Martin, I will be pretty dissapointed if we throw megabucks at Fyfe (If he continues through the season on current form)

my gut tells me that looking back in a couple years, prioritising fyfe over kelly could be one of the worst decisions we make during this rebuild. that extra 500 k could be the difference in a lot of other potential scenarios, not to mention id actually say kelly has been better in 2017

Have you considered that maybe in his mind he has left Fremantle and is just going through the motions. In his Brownlow year he was unstoppable and there's no reason he wont get back to that level.

Having said that 1 of the aforementioned would be great 2 would be a dream.

There isn't a priority. I just don't think we want to give anyone a 9 mill over 9 year Deal. So we have offered something in between gws and north.

9 over 9 is stupid for any player. That's an entire career. If he does his knee twice in that time there is no escape from that.

Imagine being stuck with a daisy Thomas contract for a player not worth it at the end of it.

Not saying that will happen to jelly but it's stupid to risk that. Give him 5 and reassess it then.

Yep, and from Kelly's point of view locking in over 9 years minimises his opportunity to get a pay increase over his career. Surely he'd back himself in to stay fit, player better and earn even more than $1m/pa in 5 years time.

Edit: 9 over 9 from North is a desperate attempt to make themselves relevant again.

That is exactly the conversation we have had. We even showed him cap projections to prove we will have plenty of room for a big increase

do you know what our offer is p.a roughly?
id say 1.5 p.a for fyfe is more overs than 1 p.a is for kelly. (if they're at the same length)

Neither should we. If we can't get him with a very, very decent offer for 5 years, and heading the direction we are, then so be it.
I'd love to get him, but not on a 9 year deal.

Confident player contract management is in good hands at the club. We have very smart people running the club right now and should all relax and enjoy the ride.

waldy touched on a whole ago that he believes it is Kelly's preference to come to us over North. Have you heard anything similar?

I'm loving all this conjecture. How good is it to be linked to the absolute elite.

And as for fyfe, my take on his current form is that he is subconsciously holding back coz he doesn't want to injure himself and miss out on his golden ticket.
