We are at a point were we need to take some risks on players (potential match winner/Elite Talent) and back our club culture to turn them around.

It has worked with Weller/Carlisle etc so far.

True - but it can end up being another Andrew Lovett outcome. (not same circumstances I know).
It depends on where you see your club's culture. Is it strong enough like Hawthorn's which could handle the Dayle Garlett situation? Or the Swans with Michael Talia? While neither of those players worked out there wasn't any detrimental effect on the playing list.

As an outsider I don't know St Kilda's culture - only the club knows if it is strong enough to handle a potentially difficult customer like Stringer. I know we don't - Bucks is too preoccupied learning how to coach to be distracted with X-factor personalities like Stringer.

It's interesting Stringer has identified Essendon and Geelong. Both have strong coaches and in Geelong's case a club culture that can handle him

Yes 24 year old Milne was a freak goal kicker. But 1 dimensional even in the 2004 ( no forward pressure back then).
Gresh has 40 games and at his age Milne wasn't even playing AFL. Gresh is far more than a goal sneak.

Yes Billings should not be mentioned next to Guerra.

In 2004 Montagna played 9 games , two with 4 disposals. Have you not been paying attention to Sinclair this year? What he's been doing on the ground is far more important than the fact that he was a Rookie pick.

Nooo. No-one will ever be as good as Lenny. But is it fair to compare 21 year old Steele with 24 year old Lenny? Steele got more of the ball than Lenny got in 2002. I'd actually compare Steele more to Ball though, with Steele winning.

Yes DalSanto had a great season in 2004. Is he as good as an "In-Form" Jack Steven though?

No McKenzie contributed more this year than Gram did in 2004. 2 games to Grammy. Its Webster who really has that role though, and Webster's pin point kicks are important in the modern game.

Goddard in those days was not up to expectations, and wasn't as good as our current Acres.

True dat. He was like his fellow favourite sons (Voss and Hird) who were thrown into the deep end without any guidance (the Malthouse mentor thing was never going to happen).

That's a fair call out. However Mav Weller and Jake Carlisle had big question marks around their behaviours and we have managed to turn them into model citizens. Add to that our youngster haven't seen to be playing up so I reckon our culture has been pretty good in the last 4 or 5 years.

I think West Coast would demand pick 8 and a player, which they should not get.

Mid first, depends on what pick the team has to use on him. If he was intent on leaving then 7 or 8 would do it.

not my club but I wouldn't be wasting a first rounder on Gaff. He's an accumulator and like us, your real need is speed and/or someone who can help in the transition from def to attack. You've got plenty of inside grunt but apart from Billings not that much outside class.
Gaff is also a defensive liability.
