Sloanes manager just said we can knock the rumour of him leaving on the head.

It won't be happening.

Good news imo, too old of the cost.

Agreed a couple of years ago I was very keen on Sloane coming to the Saints - not for what we would pay now

If we're entertaining trades in which we give up 7 or 8 without another first rounder coming our way the player involved has to be 26 or under next season IMO. I don't want us to trade away a potential 10-14 season career for 2 years of someone in their prime and then a couple of dwindling veteran years.

Again Bruce isn't as valuable as Dunstan.
And if it means bringing in an even more marketable player in Sloan...the the hypothetical is worth the discussion...no doubt the club will have a very similar one.

Inside mids are a dime a dozen & easy to find.

197cm key position players who work their arse off & are capable of 50 goal seasons are like hens teeth.

The only reason why Dunstan is in the conversation in any possible Sloane trade is because he improved in the 2nd half of the year. His form prior to that would have been akin to offering up Meatball & pick 8: laughable.

Trading Dunstan now would undoubtedly be a risk as he's going to be a good B grader for the next 7-8 years.

I'd be happy to take that risk based on the massive surge right across our club that Sloane would provide.

Dunstan is one the few players we have who really really seems to care about winning. Absolutely gutted if we lose one we should have won. I see him as a future captain if he maintains his progress. Would not trade ATM.

I Found his 2nd half of the year to be pretty good, those last few games also played with some impact!

I don't want to trade Dunstan out at all personally.
In addition, it worries me to trade him out when Armo had an injury - ridden season and has himself admitted that he has "the back of a 70 year old."
What happens if he can't play the season out and we've traded out Dunstan?

If this doomsday scenario occured and armo was cooked and dunstan gone....

We'd still have SLOANE/another A grade mid, ross, steele, stevens as inside mid options.

Plus Armo is far from cooked.
A million footballers would have the back of a 70 year old.

Riewoldt had the knee of a 90 year old 7 years ago.
Gilbert had the foot of a 90 year old 7 years ago.

Nobody is suggesting we trade dunstan for magic beans.

Ok Sloane is out. Really no A graders about.

Sit on the picks and wait for an opportunity in trade period and if nothing comes we go to the draft.

How good to be 'disappointed' with only having picks 7 and 8?

If it's true about there being a clear top 4-5 prospects this year, I'm feeling good about turning 7 & 8 & hick into pick 1.

Stef Martin wants back to vic according to waldys old man, and brisbane have said never say never about trading 1.

Glad Sloane is staying tbh.

He's a gun but hardly sell the farm for type of player.

Without being critical and I fully understand he's better than all our mids, he gets tagged out of games far too easily and giving up 7 and 8 you'd want someone who is either younger or a better player.

Very very happy to take him as a FA though.

Well I hope you're right about Armo. I'm not wishing him finished.
Plenty on here were willing to trade Dunstan last season, and I'm just saying I think he's a keeper.

I still think we'll be active using the moneyball approach (Bruce, Membrey, Hickey, Roberton) to pick up some players we rate at other clubs not getting opportunities.

Ultimately going to the draft with 2 x top 10 picks is what excites me. Easier to select elite talent and groom them at your own club rather than poaching from others - elite players generally stay at their original clubs as we've seen this year.

It would be disappointing. Surely 2018 is a year where the aim is to make & win at least one final - Club's 'blueprint' for the future was to be top 4 in 2018

With the retirements of Riewoldt, Montagna & Dempster, & only adding 2 raw 18-19yr old kids, I dont see how that happens.

Havent won a final for 7 years... Pretty bloody disgusting to be honest.

Millions in the cap, hot picks to burn & no one wants to come :(

I have said this before, and I'll say it again. Regardless of who we get in via trade or free agency, our on field performance is going to be based on the growth within our team - Billings, Dunstan, Acres, Sinclair, Gresham, Webster, White, Freeman, McCartin - these players will have a greater say on how we go next season.

Hawthorn have presented us with a remarkable opportunity, providing us, not just one, but two first round, single-digit draft picks. We haven't had many, and given where we are at (hopefully pushing into finals for the first time) I believe we would be better placed to support the long term future of our club by either:

a) taking these picks to the draft
b) trying to trade up to a top 4 draft pick and an early second rounder (GCS, Bris)

I know we are all depressed about how the season panned out, but a new season brings new opportunities, and besides 1 or 2 games, Riewoldt and Montagna didn't win games off their own boot, it was the lesser lights who stepped up. They will do this again.

Get Hall for a second rounder.
Pick up Talia for free in a position we lack depth in.
Draft two solid contributors

If we keep the picks I would love Higgins, Coffield, Brayshaw with Cerra as a slider - if we trade up, give me LDU, Rayner and Clavarino, Ling as a second rounder.

Devon Smith manager drops the bombshell... waiting to hear back from Pies and Saints before nominating!

Yeah listening to AFL trade radio, He's very talented, just means Lonie wouldnt be playing.

Will have two very talented guys in Smith and Gresh which could rotate through mid and small forward

I'm sure you felt the same about Richmond this time last year...
