2017 trade hypothetical thread

Would have zero hesitation personally giving two firsts for Lever. You pay for quality

The trouble is Carlton seem to think the two are worth the same.
They asked for 2 firsts last year for a 28 year old non-all australian.

Now their fans think we should just accept rubbish for a 21 year old all australian lol

I realise Gibbs is contracted, but that doesnt add another whole first round pick to the situation.

All Australian?

Lever has never been All Australian :$

Good trades for us - if we are nominated by these players.

EFC send Pick 11 to Dogs
Receive Stringer and Pick 25

EFC send Pick 28 to GCS for Saad

EFC send Pick 25 to GWS for Smith

Saad replaces Kelly
Stringer upgrades on Green
Smith replaces Watson
Pretty fair I think. Well done.

Just wondering what people think of this.
Adelaide need more south australians
Picks for Lever 10 & 27
Trade 10, 17 & 27 to either Carlton, Freo or North Melbourne for pick 3, 4 or 5 to get Darcy Fogarty

Wow. So much wrong here...

1) Have Carlton said anything about Lever's value?

2) Jake Lever has never been All-Australian

3) Even if he was, whilst there are plenty of dumb ways to value a player, AA selection would be right up there

4) Don't take the opinion of one Carlton fan and extrapolate it to an entire supporter base. I'm sure your fellow Crow fans wouldn't be happy if we did the same, using your opinion as the starting point.

Pies are sniff, sniff, sniffing. We WILL select Lever in the draft at six, even if he gets there, so crows draft threat if carried out would ultimately result in Dees NOT getting Lever.
Dees will deal with the Pies to get their hands on pick 6 IMO and we will get overs as Saints did from the Hawks last year pre O'Meara trade.

I have a stab at predicting how this will end.. I think it be similar to how Geelong got Brad Ottens. Richmond wanted two first rounders and Geelong ended up offloading a required player in Moloney to get the second first round pick.

I think sometime in traqde week a required Melb player will come out of no where and be traded for a first rounder and that go to the Crows for Lever.

Ultimately, whether Lever is worth 2 first rounders is anyone guess

No Carlton have said stuff about Gibbs' value. But given their valuation of Gibbs, their valuation of Lever must be much higher.
All Australian Squad (apologies). He's 21. Bryce Gibbs has never been AA either and never will be.
AA selection is a pretty decent indicator of where a player fits at their position. Certainly better than using brownlow votes or ranking points.

I'd like to say it was only one carlton fan, but pretty much every single one on BF is overrating Gibbs' value.

Some clubs that would work for.
Given our quality recruiting in recent times, I would rather us go in with 10,17 and 27 than one pick in the top 5.

Obviously would depends how our recruitment staff see the draft going, and who they're targeting, but I would be wary to do that.

With Smith nominating Essendon how does this work out?
Essendon:
In: Smith, 27
Out: 11, 2018 2nd?

Adelaide:
In: 10, 11, Ess 2018 2nd?
Out: Lever 16

Melbourne:
In: Lever
Out: 10 27

GWS:
In: 16
Out: Smith

I've thrown our 2018 2nd in there but not sure of it now that I look at it. And I know the days of the mega 4 way extravaganza is gone but it is a hypothetical thread after all.

Essendon can maybe up 27, 29 somewhere and get Stringer.

Adelaide use CC trade (18 i'd guess at) to get Gibbs.

Seems fairly reasonable.
Lots of picks going round and round. I like it.

Bombers got dudded a bit here. Take out the 2nd rounder is about right.

Crows get their 2 first roudners
Melb get their bloke with a first and a second
GWS get a first for smith
Bombers get smith and a second for thier first rounder

So let me get this straight.

Carlton hasn't said anything about Lever's value, yet you're having a crack at the club for believing he and Gibbs are of the same value.

Spare me.

All Australian Squad (apologies). He's 21. Bryce Gibbs has never been AA either and never will be.

Fancy demanding two first round picks for an out of contract player who has never been an All Australian.

AA selection is a pretty decent indicator of where a player fits at their position. Certainly better than using brownlow votes or ranking points.

It really isn't. The AA team is just another opinion-based side and shouldn't be held to a higher standard than any other of those awards or rankings.

AA selection panel:

Gillon McLachlan
Kevin Bartlett
Luke Darcy
Andrew Dillon
Danny Frawley
Glen Jakovich
Chris Johnson
Cameron Ling
Matthew Richardson
Warren Tredrea

Look at those names. Half of them are heavily involved in the media and we often cringe when they put their thoughts forward.

Yet here you are telling us that we should treat their opinions as some sort of gospel?

You're having a laugh.

I'd like to say it was only one carlton fan, but pretty much every single one on BF is overrating Gibbs' value.

Sorry we're not conforming to your impartial and level-headed analysis of the situation.

I'm saying your issue is keeping them, you need to start looking at South Australians

From a hawthorn point of view- my dream trade period with what we have would be (if possible)
2019 first rd- Stringer and Dogs pick 26
Pick 32- Impey
Pick 26- Watts
Would love to see what Clarko could do with all 3 of these players, good upside there

dont shoot me just had an idea...
port don't have a first this year..

3 + Gibbs + 18 2nd to port
18 first + wines to Carlton

If you've read through the other threads on the matter, if we picked just SA lads we'd be bottom 4 every year.
SA is not providing their share of top talent at the moment.

That and the fact that you cant just manufacture getting the SA lads every year.

But you could go for the SA kids when the opportunity presents... Ryan Burton, Will Hayward, George Hewitt. And go for the best available non-SA kids when they dont present.

That's understandable but the times you get a chance to draft SA players at close enough spots come draft day they should be top priority. Not picking a SA prospect who was a top 5 talent who broke his leg with pick 17 was always going to burn you.
