When you look at the Re-do the 2014 draft thread on the draft board you will see that Harris Andrews is consistently rated in the top 3 of that year with De Goey and Heeney. He went pick 61. There is no way we should not match for McFadyen. Hipwood is another example of local talent going for bargain picks. Payne will be another one.

I believe they will be looking to trade out any picks they have outside the first two rounds, and quite possibly mid to late second round picks as well.

You'd think a truck load given they already have 9 picks (2 1sts, 2 2nds, 2 3rds, R5, R6, R7), and expect pick 3 Lynch compo, 1st rounder for Mays, Hall and KK late 2nds to early thirds.
So to your point, they will likely have a minimum 6 picks in the first 2 rounds .... the rest are useless to them on draft day.

They really don't have any choice in doing an overhaul, well in reality they will be topping up. It's almost like they will start again poor buggers. For sure they don't want the young talent they get in being flogged every week like their first seasons. My guess would be to use those lower picks to get some older hard heads in, guys that are professional and may want a coaching career. The Hodge type players if there is any outs there. they will have heaps of salary cap room you would thinks so if someone like Roughead is really available then him standing between the King twins (if they draft them) would be the way to go. I wonder if they could get someone like LeCrass from the Eagles who is apparently contemplating retirement.

GC are on the right rrack. They are letting go anyone who doesnt want to stay. They will load up on talent and bring in some bigger bodies who want to come to the club for more opportunity. I like the players they have been linked to. They need to adjust their payments and not overpay for players. We have put down a pretty good blueprint the last few years for them to follow.

I know it's been reported by traderadio (after being repeated from bigfooty), but it just doesn't sound right to me. They had a contract in front of Lynch at the mid-way point. That contract was apparently far more than he stood to gain going back to Victoria (even before AFL marketing payments). Now apparently even that space is gone? It doesn't seem to pass the basic logic test to me.

Then they are F*&#$d. Lynch and May, according to reports were their two highest players if they have already committed that elsewhere and cant afford a few low level professionals then they are is all sorts because their kids have a lot of development yet to justify being overpaid.

That contract could easily have been back-ended, or they could have been planning to trade out other players to keep Lynch.

Actually feel sorry for Dew given the he has inherited. But apparently there were other coaching opportunities he could have take up over recent years. He just chose the wrong one.

It was first reported by one of the SEN reporters a couple of weeks ago. That's where bigfooty first got it from. And from memory, I think it was the Suns CEO talking at a members night where SEN got it from, as at least one Suns poster mentioned it on their board, similar to how the Lions have had a couple of fan/member information/question nights.

I think May and Scrimshaw going (not that he would have been on crazy amounts) will remove any issue. The reports are that they are tight-ish to the cap so can't really even try recruit beyond VFL-level players, not that they are over the cap or in danger of breaching it.

Interesting, but if a bid comes in before our first live pick we might pass, particularly if we rate Coleman as highly as I suspect we (and potentially a number of other clubs) do.

I doubt with the players going out that they have a salary cap squeeze. Im sure they are much tighter then what they should be based on their ladder position, but they need to get their house in order with contracts. We were no different not long ago.

Could think trading out for future picks could be of interest, in an effort for them to spread the pick surplus across drafts. Wouldn't be against trading our future first for one of theirs this year if it was a good deal and our recruiters rated this draft...particularly if we lose our current top pick in trading for Neale.

It is funny actually, if we get Neale, Freo get Hogan and Melbourne get May, we could trade our first next year for what would be the pick we started with anyway. GC won't give up their 2-3 combo, lets them take King twins if they want to (they take one then they will take both)

Just keep an eye on Darcy Marsh when the state combine occurs. I can imagine he might be a surprise rookie selection for us.
