If we lose Smith, Kennedy and Wilson we get a couple of first round picks back. Kennedy is a good inside player but would get much better opportunities at Carlton/Essendon.
I don’t rate Smith as a small forward as much as others do. I think he could be a very good midfielder, but not better than our current mids so don’t mind him looking for opportunities elsewhere.
If Wilson goes we have a few options: Kennedy, Buntine or Cumming. This would depend on how kenners and bunts recover and how Cumming develops. Although I do see cumming as possible replacement for Shaw.

There is also the possibility of playing Whitfield down back which may then open a spot for Setterfield in the midfield.

Additionally, Lids looks way more comfortable down back.
Bit of talk that Griffen might go back to a Melbourne club.
Potentially we could be trading out Wilson, Griffen, Kennedy, Smith, and possibly Mzungu. Add to that Johnson’s retirment. If Griffen and Wilson leave that’s probably $800000 in salary cap space that wasn’t otherwise going to be freed up that becomes available just for next year.

I get Lachie as a running half back loose in defence. I wonder if he has the beef for the one on one contests down back. I admire his willingness to tackle and scrap when necessary but thought he's more an outside player.

Agree... his best weapon is his running and decision making and that’s probably best used on the wing

I think with AK and bunts coming back and another pre season with cumming and perryman we are set to cover Wilson if he does depart. I think maybe Tomlinson could be the guy who’s role changes in that eventuality... he has intercept marking and endurance to push up and back the ground... his kicking skills might not be up to it tho.

Wilson leaves a big hole, but one that isn’t going to be left empty

Wilson has weapons but he isn’t a strong one on one player.

That’s a really interesting point. If we lose all of those players I have some serious questions regarding our depth... we aren’t just losing depth players but best 22 as well

Actually makes me think Matthews comments regarding the Giants only hitting up the draft might be bollocks

I’ve been really impressed by Himmelbergs finals series. For a key position player he had some fantastic moments.
With Jez, general and Lobb in the same team I’m not sure where HH fits.
I would hate to see us lose him but if he doesn’t get regular games next year he won’t hang around (and I don’t blame him).

At some point you'd be hoping players taken over the last few drafts would be stepping up to push for best 22 status as well though. Wilson and Smith are the two locks in our best 22. Smith is somewhat replaceable, but Wilson is a lot more unique with possibly the best kick in the comp this year.

Well that is the role he played in his draft year and if we are losing an elite kick it does make sense to bring in an elite decision maker.

Yeah hats true but I’m not sure I want the young kids selected as often... players usually don’t find consistency until their third year...

Kennedy Davis Shaw
Haynes Corr Tomlinson
Whitfield Coniglio Kelly
Greene Cameron Scully
De Boer Patton Taranto
Lobb Ward Shiel

Williams Hopper/Setterfield Deledio HH

If Wilson, Smith, Griffen and Kennedy leave, this should be our 2018 team (per trade period).

Hmm, not keen that Bam Bam has allegedly settled on Carlton as his club of choice; Smith seeming to lean that way too. They don't have sufficient trade assets and will want to screw us again.
I believe both clubs have had wins in our trade history and I don't think you will be screwed at all. If both do come to the Blues I expect a mutually beneficial deal will be done.
