We have no real pressing NEEDS at this stage but a cheap insurance ruck as a DFA or rookie wouldn’t go astray. I can’t see Lobb as a number 1 ruck unfortunately and Flynn isn’t ready

The notion that Preuss would be gettable cheap just isn't goung to happen. I really rate him but he's contracted and North know what they have.A ruck like Preuss wouldn't hurt, can't see him costing too much and would probably be our number 1 ruck but he'd only really be a stop gap for Flynn, who isn't far off being able to take that spot

Considering Preuss is still under contract till end of 2020, what would you hypothetically think is fair/realistic if we were to initiate a trade with North? I personally cant see Lobb being a number 1 ruck either, and Simpson is serviceable leaving only Flynn with much scope for development. So it isnt entirely out of the realm of possibility to maybe rookie Simpson, target Preuss and also pick up Briggs, leaving us with 4-5 ruck options (a bit like West Coast - Vardy, Naitanui, McInnes, Lycett, Olango; and Geelong - Stanley, Smith, Ratugolea, Abbott, +/- Buzza and Blicavs).A ruck like Preuss wouldn't hurt, can't see him costing too much and would probably be our number 1 ruck but he'd only really be a stop gap for Flynn, who isn't far off being able to take that spot
They'd want Kelly and throw in picks I think. That wouldn't work but still a gun mid likely.Considering Preuss is still under contract till end of 2020, what would you hypothetically think is fair/realistic if we were to initiate a trade with North? I can see North would be salivating at the thought, but no way I can see the club breaking the contract of any elite mids a year early for an 8 game ruckman regardless of how much raw potential Preuss has. Maybe next year if Kelly/Shiel are adamant on going home (hopefully not), we might consider Preuss + early picks for Shiel/Kelly. Im sure in some way or another, clubs will find a way to rip us off. They'd want Kelly and throw in picks I think. That wouldn't work but still a gun mid likely.
Hopefully the possibility of playing regular senior games albeit up in Sydney can entice him. Interestingly he was originally from Queensland so wouldn't have the strong Victorian ties. North could easily just hold him to his contract though since Goldstein is aging and he would be the next option up. If we can do what gold coast did for Witts and do a ball park trade of a 3rd + 4th rd pick for preuss that would be amazing - obviously unlikely though.According to posters on the NM board Preuss is looking for a trade out, which would change the dynamic significantly.

Out of our OOC midfield group of next year I think our priority must be in the order of Kelly > Coniglio > Shiel > Hopper/Tomlinson.

He would cost he world mateA ruck like Preuss wouldn't hurt, can't see him costing too much and would probably be our number 1 ruck but he'd only really be a stop gap for Flynn, who isn't far off being able to take that spot
They have a very good ruck reaching the end if his career. They are a very patient club, as they showed with Ahern. Rucks usually take time and Preuss is leading the ruck stats in the VFL.He's played 8 career games, 0 this year. No one can think he should cost the world, if he was as highly valued as NM fans seem to think he is he'd be playing
Very true. This is how I see it.They have a very good ruck reaching the end if his career. They are a very patient club, as they showed with Ahern. Rucks usually take time and Preuss is leading the ruck stats in the VFL.
I do rate Preuss, and I have since I saw play in Hobart last year. He'd be great on our list.
I'd actually consider our first round pick, my hesitation on that is what good things Adrian Caruso could do with it in the draft. North may not take it anyway.
What do you guys see the list needs are for this trade/draft period? I think we need to develop some more good mids, a key forward, a key defender and a ruck.
Apart from Sproule, the only other developing KPF we have is jack buckley. Tiziani is more a medium sized forward and if we draft peatling and/or walker this year, they will be vying for similar spots. Also to note delahunty will be coming through next year and looks promising but also 191cm - hoping he can grow 5cm and add to his frame to be another promising KPF for the future. I was thinking we could consider hugo munn from SA, looks to have the mongrel and agility to play a quicker Patton type role, standing at 198cm and 94kg. Both qualities we need since I feel Patton lacks the aggression and speed to become an A grade player. Munn also has a great contested mark and has a good leap on him with the occasional specky. Another we could consider as a project rookie or late draft is nathan kreuger (196cm, 86kg) who was passed up on the draft last year but he would need some work building his body since he is agile but would get crunched in AFL.
I think for ruck stocks, flynn the only developing genuine ruckman, we should either be looking/planning to trade for a preuss/darcy (unfortunately both contracted) or perhaps more likely matching a bid for briggs in the draft.
In terms of a key defender, would be looking mainly at Collins as a potential cheapy to fill the void in defence if Mohr retires. Otherwise we have strong depth in defence with Buntine (will likely get bumped out when Williams returns), Taylor, Cumming, Finlayson and Perryman.
Our current stock of young developing mids include shipley, bonar, setterfield and maybe cumming and perryman if you consider them mids - I see them more as defenders at AFL level. Thinking we lack a bit of outside class, quality ball users and endurance runners in this group (though shipley runs very well). My general vibe is that the best outside mids in the 2018 group will feature highly in the draft (Walsh, Rankine, Tarryn Thomas, Hill, etc.) and might be out of our reach if we dont have an active trade period. We could opt for some balanced mids who can still distribute very well like Rozee/RCD/Caldwell with our first and second picks but i reckon if anyone from the top slides we will go best available with our 1st pick.
Thoughts?
If we draft Briggs it will be as a KPP, not really tall enough to be a prime ruck and Flynn has done everything right since he started.I can see best available mid with the first pick and then Briggs and 2-3 academy picks depending on list spots
I can see more movement next year with some retirements opening up spots and the possibility of some trades to allow a good pick for a tall forward

Trading in another ruck option remains a strong possibility
Good point and don't disagree that may have been his intent, though I hadn't thought down that path myselfReckon when Caruso put a question mark on Briggs height as a ruck it was more to do with putting a message out that were not as keen as some might think we are. After all Briggs is 200cm which is the same height as Flynn as well as the likes of Jacobs, Kreuzer, McEvoy and Sinclair.

I agree he would be an ideal get, but I feel the price will be higher than thought.Honestly Preuss makes so much sense, he is a really aggressive ruckman and just needs opportunity. Won’t cost an arm and a leg either!
There is a lot of chatter on other boards around preuss as well. We would need to pay overs to break the contractHonestly Preuss makes so much sense, he is a really aggressive ruckman and just needs opportunity. Won’t cost an arm and a leg either!

I’m not willing to sell the farm to get a kid with bigger all games under his belt. I could take it or leave it
