On a minor matter, Tim Bugg is On the outer at the Dees. Possibly a DFA. If we need cheap depth next year I think he might be a good call. At the right price.

I think it will be interesting to see what happens with Tyson and Bugg at Melbourne and I could see the Suns and Blues interested in mature depth and I want to see most of the ex Giants succeed so hopefully they can continue there careers somewhere

Surely SOS will target tyson and bugg for his collection of ex gws players

I think some clubs might be after tyson but dont think too many would go for bugg. I think in light of the recent run of injuries to sam reid, bugg could be an option to play a similar role if we could get him as as a rookie or late draft. Not a role that requires someone with great talent, just needs to have a tank and the will to tackle, will get occasional shots at goal which he wont mind. Came 1st in the 3km time trial at melbourne so running not an issue and still only 25. Think he would also appreciate being back together playing with his old mates. I personally reckon he would make a good tagger if we want to add that dimension to our game.

Reid is going to be 29 by the end of the year and might be time to move him on if soft tissue injuries continue to be a problem. Maybe resuming a coaching role or could potentially have another year on the rookie list. Love his work ethic and persistance, would want to keep him at the club in some capacity since he seems to be a person that gets along well with everyone and keeps the players at the club together.

I mentioned Bugg for a reason. The Demons have tended to use him as a defensive mid. We generally used him as a "run with" player. I think the latter suits him better. He's good at niggling and getting under his oppositions skin.
He had a major brain when he decked Mills that seems to have cost him. I'd forgive him one **** up.

Hope Bugg can continue his career but looks like it will need to be away from the Demons, hasn't had a look in this year really and I think too many in front of him there, I think he would be a good defender if he put his mind to it

That brain fade seems to have rattled him. I’ve noticed that after his return from suspension he was getting pushed and shoved by opponents and took it. He lost his mojo

Yawn.

"Clubs target gun midfielder. News at 11."

If there were three clubs targeting Keeffe, now that would be real news.

The part that is concerning is the salary cap management. If that is correct and realistically with all the re-signings and uprgrades we are probably stretched then maybe it’s true.

If we did lose someone like Dyl by gee you would want to be heavily rewarded...particularly whilst in contract.

After the Mills incident he publicly announced he had to win back the confidence of the Dees. I think he was clouted hard internally.
Bit if a contrast with the way Leon usually reacts to transgressions by Toby or others. It tends to be more dont change too much from him and the captains.

Honestly I shrug when I read that. I'm sure we're right up against the cap in a given year, because we're a good team. Most teams contending (or expecting to contend - hi, Geelong and Adelaide!) at this point in the year would be right up against the cap in the current year, and in future years the expenditure would already be planned out so as not to put them over the cap.

To head off the immediately expected response, Richmond can chase Lynch because they have 12 (!) players coming off contract this year so next year's cap has a lot of available room. They can just choose not to re-sign a bunch of them (or force them to take paycuts if they want to hang around at Richmond).

the 16 “traditional” clubs

When did Freo, West Coast, Adelaide and Brisbane become “traditional” clubs (leaving Port aside for a different debate)

I suppose it could be argued that Brisbane bought their tradionality when they raided Fitzroy for half a jumper and a new mascot (it wasn’t a merger) but still, the bears part is hardly ‘traditional’

There is not a doubt in my mind that clubs in Victoria are using their “business networks” to get these deals over the line.

With older players they are offering them employment opportunities post football and with younger ones they are looking after partners etc jobs. In many ways the salary cap and he way it is policed actually serve to cause disbalance rather than parity.

Don’t even start me on how they rort the draft process, coaching players to tank interviews, hiding players or using the greatest rort of them all the NGA.

No matter what people say we are so up against it to succeed in this competition.

Depends on where we sit with a big name like shiel. If rumours are true and he might be on the move then Setters is required. If not, then maybe he does go. Lord knows its a tough gig to get a go in that midfield.

Im not buying the salary cap relief garbage....the guy wouldn't be on huge cash

Someone is just trawling the Carlton trade thread on Bigfooty. Reckon they can get him for a 2nd round pick! Why would we trade him and Shiel in the same year, when we would hope the former could replace the latter if he moved on. Stupid logic.

We have him for another 3 years and he reckons 2nd rounder?

Fmd stupid is strong.

More dartboard journalism and anything is possible but with 2 years on his contract and playing for a top 4 team with chances for flags in the next few years I can't see Setterfield moving
SC should all be worked out for next year and I think what they will work out at the end of the season is what happens with Griffen, Simpson, Reid and Tiziani based on the money available and list spots based on what happens with picks in the ND and rookie
