Because players know when other players are coming in and out of contract.... Pull your head in

Why throw that last jab for? You trying to win a prize? Don't even try to tell me what to say.

Of course Simmo would know that.

The reason he wants to do it is because he knows he doesn't have much time left and next year could be his last so he'd want us to bring in as much quality as possible as soon as possible.

The blues are at least 3 years away of becoming competitive, I wouldn't trade pick 1.

Big call perhaps, but I could see a circumstance where Murph leaves as a free agent and the AFL games it to give us an extra 1st rounder (would be the first club to lose their captain as a free agent). But they would do this knowing the Gold coast will also have an extra 1st for Lynch.

Trade 1 to gold coast or freo in a deal to get scrimshaw or cerra and a later top 10 pick and then pick the best mid with pick 2.

It's rare for a ruckman to go first round, from memory Tim English was the last one?

I'd say a promising ruckman can be found between picks 30-50. But that's a stab

Yep, after a few had gone early & not prospered which led to Grundy being a bargain in that year @ #18. English @ #19.
Hopefully TDK is an astute pick @ #30 into a mobile ruck.

Yes, exactly my point. He said "we cannot afford to trade away the opportunity to grab this guy if he really is that good" so how are we supposed to know "if he is that good"? That's quite an if statement there and we're basing it on what 'experts' are saying like as if they can predict the future.

All I'm saying is, we should be open to trading #1 if it means we can get something great in return for it. Pick #2 + Brodie and Scrimshaw would be just that in return for #1 + change. Even though it's not going to happen.

I agree in that he'd have to be exceptional to be worth two top mids. If we havea genuine opportunity to trade pick 1 for two genuine gun mids we'd be hard pressed to reject that. Of course whether that situation would actually arise is another matter.

Stop worrying about Dylan being a free agent next year.
If u can do a deal for something u want & value, then u do it now! Split pick one into a couple picks and give one to gws and use the other.
You never know what happens next year and the deal doesn’t happen.
This is the difference between professionals and amateurs- amateurs try and cook up a deal where they get the best deal at all costs.
Pros get it done! & get it done for a good deal- it’s all repeat business, u play fair and professional. Knowing that getting it done is what matters, not getting the best deal “supposedly” possible.
Main reason a deal falls over is it takes to long, u research, then action & get the outcome, not fluff around

I've got a feeling we might shop the #1 pick around. Realistically what could we get offered to make it worthwhile? It's got to be side that really needs a KPF who wants to lock in Lukosius or GWS who fear losing Shiel for nothing.

GWS: Shiel + 2nd rounder (roughly 24-26). I'm 50/50 on this one
GC: Miller or Martin + pick 4 for pick 1 & our first 2nd rounder (roughly 21-23 it's the WB old pick). I'd take this in a heartbeat.
Freo: Cerra + pick 6 for pick 1 & our first 2nd rounder (roughly 21-23 it's the WB old pick). I'd take this in a heartbeat.
Adelaide package ... 7 and 8 (Sloane compensation) ... or perhaps picks 7, 15 and 19.

Not what I meant at all precious. Just meant if you’re the type of flog that does 1 year at a club, wants to leave to go home where there’s 8 sides to choose from BUT demand 1, THEN you’re probably not cut out to survive AFL.
Nothing to do with Carlton, you misunderstood completely.

Are you basing this on personal experience with Cam McCarthy??

I don’t want to finish last but if the hype is true, imagine Lukosius and Charlie in the forward line together for the next 10 years. As I said, I don’t want to finish last, but if we do get pick 1, it shouldn’t be traded.

I think we won’t have that “problem”, we won’t finish last.

Maybe Surrey, but what if Walsh said," I only want to go to Carlton cos I want to play alongside Charlie and Crippa?"

The blues will finish last 100% guaranteed, they will either keep pick 1 or use Pick 1 to get other top 10 picks.

Id rather Walsh in the midfield next to Cripps.

Yeah I doubt any club is going to offer that to get Lukosius. As much as he's being touted as the next Nick Reiwoldt, there's still the chance he won't live up to it.
