Was also funny to hear SOS say he was hoping Tim Kelly slipped to our pick 30 in last years draft. I suspect West Coast plan to take him at pick 26 had not the Cats got their paws on him before them. They were really dirty on Cats for that. ha ha. Eagles had traded their first rounder for 2018 draft to try to get more picks in the 20's to get Tim Kelly. Would have loved to be fly on wall in their camp when Cats called out Tim Kelly with pick 24 they got from Suns in the Ablett trade.

You not wrong
Cam McCarthy, Kersten, Bennell, Hamling and Brad Hill not exactly bridged the gap between 2013 grand final appearance to winning your first flag. You gone backwards. So much so that Ross Lyon given up that plan and rebuilding for first time in his coaching career. Brad Hill could have been Parfitt or Zac Fisher if you not traded that pick away for him. McCarthy could have been Ainsworth or McCluggage and you further advanced for the rebuild.

Happy what we paid for Docherty, Marchbank, Pickett, Kennedy, Plowman, Lang and still having all the draft picks we needed in last few years since building with a new coach from ground zero.

Spuds like O'Shea and Mullett have cost us no draft picks and would be in reserves team if not had so many injuries.

Our spuds didn’t cost much either.
Brad Hill won our fairest and best last year so he was decent. 2nd rounder which came from Mayne leaving.
McCarthy was an exchange of pick 3 to 7 and some later picks who we used to bring in Ryan Hamling and Cox from memory.

Anyway all the best.

If Cerra leaves and chooses Carlton I hope we receive better then the dreamland offer of 23 and 26.

Why would Cerra leave? He is as important to you guys as a Paddy Dow is for us. Surely he is part of your re-build. Be mad to let him go for anything. Him and Brayshaw should be the core of your re-build for next 5 years. Picks 23 and 26 would not come close to player of his calibre.

The logic behind my post was to remove him from deep in defence as much as possible and use him as a link up wing man where his speed, long kicking, spoiling and marking could be an advantage.
Right now, his brain fades are very costly when they are made from deep in defence and often result in turnover goals.
Hopefully in time the brain fades or being totally unaware of his man sliding out the back will become less and less .
He's still learning defence but yes its taking time id keep persisting well into next year when we have a settled side ( i hope!) .
Then make a judgement call then .

If we do get no 1, we simply must shop it around.

If luc as good as everyone predicting he becomes equal to CHarlie. We can’t spend our future cap on 2 number 1 forwards. Mackay, Kerry, tdk more than capable to be the foil. We need to plan to keep this team together for 5 years...

Get Walsh plus one more for trading 1. Get Wallis? Then we sell the farm for kelly in 2019. ( if we get gaff this year I would be blown away).. but would still take another years pain and Kelly over gaff..

That plus natural growth of our list = game on

Anyone suggesting we go another tall that is as good as everyone saying (luc) will cost 1 mill plus a year to retain long term is not looking at big picture. We need $ for gun mids to get the ball in quick and accurate. How shot does Tom Lynch look in a team with a midfield that isn’t firing. It’s never been easier to defend a gun forward as a team if the ball is coming in slow

1 absolute gun on big $ (CHarlie) , and a killer support cast is all we need.. only thing lacking in our forward line is a few year development and an Eddie betts. Pickett a wing, hff. We just don’t have a small with scary goal sense (if could kick 50 would be a bonus Too).

Agree with this - we need three All Australian type mids. We only have one, we hope one of Fisher, SPS or DOW develop into one or two of the three but at this point this is hoping than a given. We need AA mids.

Richmond, Sydney, West Coast, Collingwood have three AA mids this is where games are won and lost and we are lacking.

If any Carlton fan thinks 23 and 26 would get Cerra they are delusional. I think he could turn out the best of last year's draftees

I simply put forward a trade if Cerra was forcing their hand. I said 23 and 26 this year and a 3rd either this year or next. I said it wouldn't happen. But put it on their recruiters. Saying if it is a deep draft they might back themselves. We here are carlton are excited about the wb and Adelaide picks and believe SOS will do well with them.

Again, never said it would happen. Just spit balling. Then a troll comes in and it turns to poo

That's fine but even as a suggestion it is so far from reality that it is not worth considering. If on a Freo board they suggested pick 23 and 26 for SPS you rightly would be scoffing and trolling

Just put it on the ignore list Juddy, easy as. ;)
Quite comical when a Freo fan pot shots Carlton.
Obviously forgotten all about the likes of Waterhouse, McLeod, Hodge, Groom, Bell, Farmer, McCarthy, Bennell, etc, etc.
We may not be perfect but they should be sitting in the corner and keeping their mouths firmly shut when it comes to criticising other club's drafting.

Well tough. Because i did consider it. Just like you considered calling someone delusional! So maybe pull your head in a bit

I like it but I think we are done with going to the draft

Porque no los dos?

For me Shiel is not worth pick 1 on its own, by trading it and getting a heap of picks it allows us to get Shiel and keep a presence in the draft or gives us more currency to acquire other players.

I think in reality the only club who would trade up this year would be Adelaide to get pick 1-4 to get one of the star SA kids.

If the top 10-15 can have a blanket thrown over them why would you trade two or more 1st round picks otherwise.

Adelaide won't do us any favours either.

I agree. Crows the most likely to beg for earlier picks and desperate enough to do a dumb trade to our advantage. They panic as a club when under pressure in their football department. The camp fiasco been fun to watch them try to sweep under carpet and PR nightmare in their panic to try to hose things down. They gave more than they wanted to for Gibbs and could fold like a pack of cards again when trade window starts closing and they fear their dream of SA boys in top 2 or 3 picks they cannot get.

Yeah I would want us to get him and still have a first round pick. Going to be tough to achieve that though

What picks do they hold? And what players of theirs could they package up to get a deal done?

I'm not sold on McGovern being a good fit for us and he is the only obvious one I can think of

Dreamers gotta dream

Lets say they get pick 9 for Sloane as compo.

8, 9 & 19 for pick 1?
8 & 9 and 1 of our 2nds for Shiel?
So turning pick 1 & a second into Shiel & pick 19
Shiel is not worth that much.. two first round picks and a 2nd round in a very even draft in the top 20 odd is too much! As much as I rate him I would rather hold off one more year for the big free agent it will just cost us too much! Build the club from the bottom up this is the best chance to do so with year 3 of the rebuild

Crows would have to be super crazy to give all that for a pick 1 but you gotta dream.
Meanwhile we will do our own thing and not plan for such stupidity to actually happen from them.
