Has Dahlhaus re-signed? Adding he and Fasolo would give us an instant half forward flank boost. We have 3mil plus in the cap and should be able to offer a fair bit more than what the Cats would be offering.

I keep trying to play out trade scenarios but the priority pick fluctuations play too big a part. We could potentially go to North for their pick 9 if they think Thomas will get bid on before that.

Fasolo, Brodie, McGovern, Walsh, Roughy/Boak...whatever, just no more O'Sheas and Shaws

I'm really unexcited about Fasolo and Dalhaus

I'd rather top up with vets who are there to help the kids for a year or 2 or players that could be part of the next premiership, rather than players who aren't quite guns, but will be trying to carve out their own spot.

It could be both. A guy like Wallis is very professional and one of the leaders at the Dogs. Would not break the bank, if we wanted to target a big fish in the future

I think we will get Pick 4 as a priority pick with Gold Coast getting Pick 3 for Lynch compo and Pick 5 for a priority pick. We will trade our two 2nd round picks to North Melbourne for its first round pick and then pick the best midfielder still available. That would mean 3 picks in the 1st round this year.

Pick 1 - Lukosius(Carlton)
Pick 2 - Walsh (Gold Coast)
Pick 3 - Max King (Gold Coast)
Pick 4 - Rankine (Carlton)
Pick 5 - Ben King (Gold Coast)

In the 2019 draft, we pick up Shiel as a free agent and use our 2019 1st round draft pick on the best midfielder available.

I think in year 2020, we will be pushing for a top 4 place with the following team (Simpson and Thomas will stick around to play finals again).

Team for 2020:

B: Plowman----------------Marchbank---------------Bryne

H: Docherty----------------Weitering---------------Simpson

C: Murphy-------------------Cripps-------------------O'Brien

H: SPS---------------------C.Curnow---------------Lukosius

F: Pickett--------------------McKay------------------Rankine

Foll: Kreuzer, Dow, Shiel

Bench: Williamson, Kennedy, 2019 1st Round Draft Pick (Midfielder), Fisher

Emerg: North Melbourne's 2018 1st Round Draft Pick (Midfielder), E.Curnow, Thomas, Lang, Garlett, Cuningham, Wright, Kerr, J.Silvagni, De Koning, Schumacher, Macreadie, Lobbe, Phillips

The following players will have left the club by 2020:

Kerridge
Lamb
Shaw
Rowe
Mullet
O'Shea
Polson
Graham
Casboult
Jones (traded)
A.Silvagni (retired)

There’s no evidence saying we won’t either. So. Settle and just wait and see.

IF the AFL did give us the first round priority

Pick 1 for M McGoven, B Crouch and their 2019 second

Pick 3 for Smith/Walsh

FA - J McGoven

He said:

There’s that option (for the pick to be at the start of the first round), an option around mature age players as well. Do you need to go to a priority pick scenario or can you potentially give them access to mature age talent?”

“If you have a look at (Carlton and Gold Coast), that’s actually what they’re lacking. I’m not sure they need more talent.

I personally think it’s broader than just pushing a priority pick towards them.”

Did you perhaps gloss over that telling part of his statement?

There's a fair bit of 1+1 = 4 going on at present.

No I didn't miss it but he did say in the opening paragraphs:-

https://www.sen.com.au/news/2018/08...ity-picks-not-off-the-table-yet-says-hocking/

AFL football boss Steve Hocking hasn’t ruled out the possibility of Carlton and Gold Coast receiving priority picks at the top of the first round.

“That’s yet to be decided as to where (the pick) would get placed,” Hocking told SEN’s Crunch Time.

“(The possibility is) still there, but it’s something that needs greater discussion as to where the industry sits on all of this".

We'll just have to wait and see what happens.

A free hit at a mature aged state league player isn't going to do much for us either.

Let's say we get Sam Collins. Will that really improve our list and help us become competitive in the next few years?

Look at our forward line. It's bereft of real talent apart from Charlie and Harry. Our midfield is clearly lacking in talent too.

Maybe he means give us a pick with the proviso that we trade it for a mature aged talent...

If you've somehow added just about the entire GWS midfield in Shiel, Kelly, Scully, Coniglio (plus Cerra) why not continue and also add Hopper, Taranto, Martin, Dangerfield, Fyfe, Bontempelli, Mitchell, JP Kennedy, Gaff, Oliver, Treloar, Macrae, Merrett, Crouch, Neale, Zorko, Beams, Gray, Pendlebury...
Be realistic.. .We would never be able to get Hopper or Taranto

My stance hasn't changed and I don't want one. I don't want us to go begging to those pricks.
That does not make sense to me... we could get an advantage for the team but our pride says we don’t want one. Imagine going back to the players and saying we could have helped you get better but we decided not to. It is the responsibility of the club to act in the best interests in making the team better... I can see no argument that an extra high end pick does not do that.

The key word here is responsibility. We as a club are responsible for our past and I have faith that we can pull ourselves out of it.

You have to admit how sweet it will be to say **** You we did it without handouts!

My source is news media and other bigfooty pages.
Apparently, Essendon have offered much more for Shiel, almost hard to turn down
As far as Gaff goes, North Melbourne have offered him large, and he is likely to stay at West Coast. Saints are also ahead saying they are going to be aggressive, publicly, and they have Gaff as a target

That to me would be the club acting irresponsibly. Cripps, Dow.. etc they don’t care if it’s a PP, they just want help in the mid field. The club maybe be embrassaed as they feel they got themselves in this position. Us supported as well as it demonstrates how far we have fallen but the players deserve every bit of assistance they can get and that is what the club is there for. I don’t hear people talking Hawthorn down for their PP or Collingwood. I get how you feel (my brother goes for the Pies and he will give me no end of grief but I don’t care) in an ideal world you do it without but in this world we take the pick and improve the team.
