Apparently, Essendon have offered much more for Shiel, almost hard to turn down
As far as Gaff goes, North Melbourne have offered him large, and he is likely to stay at West Coast. Saints are also ahead saying they are going to be aggressive, publicly, and they have Gaff as a target
LOL!

I don't think so
Lets isolate the pick 1 trade.

You could have Lukousius...but you get a bunch of potpourri.

Thats not even the best trade you could get from Adelaide let alone the league.

McGovern is surplus to our forwardline.
Brad Crouch is ok but Shiel is infinity times better.
The second round pick is meh when the crows have 3 firsts

'News media' as in Tom Browne, Daniel Cherny, Jon Ralph, Kane Cornes and all those muppets.

As for BF pages :straining:

Your source is a mix of guessing, conjecture and trolls. Wouldn't put any credence in that at all

1- How is McGoven surplus but lukousis not?

2- I really rate Brad Crouch and how does it stop us getting Shiel as a FA next year?

3- Having 2 second rounders is underrated, the 2 for 1 trades for academy selections could see it as a top 10

Big Breath:
My very hypothetical SOS scenario at the trade table
Instigate a trade with Norf to swap their 1st round pick (9) and a second round 2019 for our two second rounders (23 and 25), they effectively get Thomas for 23 (assuming someone bids) and keep a relatively high second round pick.
SOS then has picks 1, 9, PP11(I think that they will send it to the end of the non-finalists first round picks (Blues-11, GC-12)
Adelaide, sh1tting themselves that they wont get Lukosious throw the kitchen sink at SOS on draft night and offer him all their early picks, 7,15,19, SOS taking a big breath takes the deal.
We now have picks: 7,9,11,15,19
SOS then offers GC 7,9,15 and 19 for picks 2 and 3. GC, with pp 12 already see that 5 picks in the 1st round is a absolute steal and accept.
Carlton now has picks 2,3, 11
Carlton picks: 2- Walsh
3- Smith/Rankine
11- Taylor/Collier-Dawkins

Midfield set for a decade, wouldn't need Sheil
Potential Draft order:
1- Adelaide: Lukosius
2- Carlton: Walsh
3- Carlton: Rankine (the Lynch pick, everything slips back one spot)
4- Brisbane: M King
5- Swans (Aints thought trading for Hanerbury a good idea!): Blakey (SOS very naughty bid for him at three and flushed it out)
6- Dogs: Smith
7- Freo: Hill (no go home)
8- GC: B King
9- Scum: Williams
10- GC: Hately
11- Port (wont make it): Rozee (no go home)
12- Carlton: Taylor

Two genuine mids and a mid/forward X-factor

I think we will get Pick 4 as a priority pick with Gold Coast getting Pick 3 for Lynch compo and Pick 5 for a priority pick. We will trade our two 2nd round picks to North Melbourne for its first round pick and then pick the best midfielder still available. That would mean 3 picks in the 1st round this year.

Pick 1 - Lukosius(Carlton)
Pick 2 - Walsh (Gold Coast)
Pick 3 - Max King (Gold Coast)
Pick 4 - Rankine (Carlton)
Pick 5 - Ben King (Gold Coast)

In the 2019 draft, we pick up Shiel as a free agent and use our 2019 1st round draft pick on the best midfielder available.

I think in year 2020, we will be pushing for a top 4 place with the following team (Simpson and Thomas will stick around to play finals again).

Team for 2020:

B: Plowman----------------Marchbank---------------Bryne

H: Docherty----------------Weitering---------------Simpson

C: Murphy-------------------Cripps-------------------O'Brien

H: SPS---------------------C.Curnow---------------Lukosius

F: Pickett--------------------McKay------------------Rankine

Foll: Kreuzer, Dow, Shiel

Bench: Williamson, Kennedy, 2019 1st Round Draft Pick (Midfielder), Fisher

Emerg: North Melbourne's 2018 1st Round Draft Pick (Midfielder), E.Curnow, Thomas, Lang, Garlett, Cuningham, Wright, Kerr, J.Silvagni, De Koning, Schumacher, Macreadie, Lobbe, Phillips

The following players will have left the club by 2020:

Kerridge
Lamb
Shaw
Rowe
Mullet
O'Shea
Polson
Graham
Casboult
Jones (traded)
A.Silvagni (retired)

Top 4 in 2020 and Thomas & Simmo are part of it? :p

Murphy on a wing at 35?

I really hope you are wrong. If not most of our youngsters and haven't stepped up and we haven't recruited at all

My source

We are getting Shiel because he wants to play for Carlton
We are getting Gaff because he wants to play for Carlton
We are getting Setterfield because he wants to play for Carlton
We are getting Kelly because he wants to play for Carlton
We are getting Dahlhaus because he wants to play for Carlton
We are getting Cerra because he wants to play for Carlton
Then we will add Walsh Lukosius Smith Caldwell through the draft

I believe it. I feel like we are being a little bit too sure of Shiel coming and that he is going to be swept away from us at the eleventh hour.

Not really based on anything but churning ball of anxiety in my guts and some of the posts on bf.

I smell stink with that trade !

12 years since Melbourne played finals. We need to be very mindful of this, lest we make the same mistakes Melbourne has made.
Before we start wetting ourselves over draft picks, the club needs an urgent review as we are hopelessly unbalanced.
Kreuzer
Phillips
Lobb
Casboult
McKay
Two of them are worth keeping. The rest are journey men and have no impact. Go after Goldstein for 2 years and go after rucks in the draft.
Ruckmen always become available, and we can pick one up. Let's not get stressed about it.

Thomas
Graham
O'Shea
Lang
Lamb
Kerridge
All of these players are list cloggers and have been tried and failed. They cannot play consistent football.Time to make hard call.
Let's go into the market and see what other options we have.
Clearly BB cannot get any more out of these players despite being a teaching coach.

We are compiling a decent list, let's not clog it up. Hawthorn make hard calls, whereas we procrastinate. We are becoming hoarders.

Certainly seems like if we want Shiel, now is the time to get him. If we wait a year for free agency there's a big chance we'll miss out.

I'm really unexcited about Fasolo and Dalhaus

I'd rather top up with vets who are there to help the kids for a year or 2 or players that could be part of the next premiership, rather than players who aren't quite guns, but will be trying to carve out their own spot.

Build a new team with kids. Then recruit some free senior upstanding citizens to temporarily protect the kids and provide guidance and high training standards.

You know.....the GWS model.

Hmmmm. Who would know how to replicate this?

:)

Agree. How good is Lobbe turning out to be with TDK et al.
