pick 1 to freo for their first and cerra then trade that pick plus sweeteners to giants for shiel?
Can't see Freo agreeing to that. Considering where their list is at, why would they give up two gun kids (Cerra and whoever they intend to pick at 6) for 1 gun kid?

I'd also prefer we kept at the pointy end of this years draft and pickup one of Walsh, Smith, Lukosius or Rankine (or whoever SOS & co rates as #1).

We aren't going to trade pick one unless it's something over the top. Odds are we will keep it and pick Walsh.

If Cerra wants to come home then it's next years first rounder in play and that depends on what happens with Shiel. So much to play out

I also agree that media personalities and opposition supporters are missing the danger of what we are building and have no depth of understanding of what has occurred at Carlton in 2018. Like Arrow said, it also applies to some of our own supporters who can only see the win/loss column and not the series of unfortunate events that have cut off our ability to compete.

I honestly think if we got Shiel this trade period and one other half decent mature mid and got all players on the park we would surprise a lot of people in 2019. It's why i personally dont care about the PP and enjoy the: general public/medias support, and ultimately the AFLs stupidity in giving us a pick and maybe even mid first round pick at that.

Still dont rate Polson tho lol.

But i do rate:
Dow
Cripps
Docherty
SPS
O'Brien
Kennedy
Weitering
Curnow
Mckay (franked form this season where previously unsure)
Marchbank
Macreadie (when he finally gets his chance)
Williamson (see above)
Byrne
Fisher

and i hold out hope for a few others.

Good post. IMO we have the best young group in the AFL. We have not only more but a group that are potentially elite. It's only time.

I expect some exciting but inconsistent football in 2019 and 8 wins is a reality with a fit list

All of the players you have named I rate but there is also Schumacher Kerr TDK Silvagni Cuningham Pickett Garlett Lang who have all showed something. This year we will add Walsh and a couple more. Bring on 2019/20

Our 50 games or Less Line Up Round One 2019

Byrne Macreadie Schumacher
Cuningham Marchbank Williamson
Pickett Dow O'Brien
Charlie McKay SPS
Polson Kerr McGovern
Phillips Kennedy Fisher
Walsh TDK Silvagni Garlett BSOS LeBois plus another 2-3 draft picks

That's is as talented a young group you will find anywhere and all have a lot of improvement in them. Most AFL players don't mature until close to 100 games

*Lang & Weitering are just over 50 games

Freo looking for gun key forward since Pavlich. Not been an easy search. Should pay heaps.

Just do not get the negativity on Polson.
Still a kid.
SOS obviously saw something in the kid to pick him.
Who are we to question SOS?
Bolton is finally letting him string some games together.
If we didn't have the injuries would he have played 11 games?
I dont know.
However Bolton obviously does.
Maybe Bolton has just said 'see ball, get ball', and we will see how you go?
Does anyone on here sit in on the team match committee?
If the answer is no, then you have no idea what the KPI's have been set for the kid.
And who are we to question Bolton and the match committee?

Too many keyboard warriors writing of a kid after 11 games
Hopefully what we are seeing is a kid with talent given time to learn the craft.
Just needs to start being a bit more consistent.
This will take time, and that is something this group has plenty of.
:)

I question them all the time, and I feel right about doing so!

Especially when we travel to Brisbane with two ruckmen (one going down within the first 5 minutes), have nothing up forward other than Charlie and fans are sitting down, watching the team get pummeled by 17th as the camera cuts to Harry sitting in the crowd.

I don't agree with targeting small forwards, for me that limits the depth of your list. Build a midfield and the excess can be small forwards, Stevie J, Greene, Motlop, Wingard, Gray, Higgins, Walters. That to me is more of a sound list management model

I don't do diplomatic, surely you should know that by now;)

Just a couple more facts for those suggesting Polson is one of the worst players in the AFL

Castagna played only 5 games in the 2 years after being drafted
Butler played no games in the 2 years after being drafted

I think it just confirms that late picks generally need more time
Need at least 1 guy who know where the goals are and is capable of creating goals from nothing.
Then you can add in resting midfielders but need 1 magic man.

Then give Bolton a call at the club.
He is probably just waiting for the call.
I put faith in who is picked each week.
This year has been tough with injuries.
But if we take your point of view we may as well just asked the AFL is we could just play 2-3 player short, as you do not agree with who is on the park

Gladly! :p

It's pretty much the entire point of a thread titled 'List Management Discussion' though right.

Just trying to think who that magic man was for the Dogs, a 28 year old Dickson, or a 30 year old Picken

True :)
But posters are writing off a kid after playing 11 games.
11 games!!!!
Lets a least wait for him to hopefully get to 50 games.
Just give the kid some time.
The club seems happy with him, so why are we not giving him a chance?
:)

Brisbane go OK and this is them vs us:
Andrews......McCluggage......Rayner.....Witherden.....Hipwood.....Berry.......Bailey...........Cox..............McStay.........Cutler......Gardiner......Mathieson
Weitering....Dow.................Fisher......O'Brien..........McKay.......SPS..........Williamson....Cuningham....Marchbank...Curnow....Macreadie....Kennedy

It's not always a like for like, but you get the idea.
Brisbane have had 2 distinct advantages over Carlton this year; a. Less injuries b. Better crop of mature players.
Another thing that stands out a little is that their picks overall, would be lower than ours. Most of our guys were taken relatively early on.
