Unfortunately footballers aren't chips you simply swap between motherboards.

His output at a club in his hometown that he's declared he wants to stay part of, playing outside to a very strong midfield might be very different to what he produces at a club in another state with the pressure of being a big $ recruit playing as part of a patchy and inconsistent midfield.

I trust that our list managers have already done that homework

What i got from that was "Ex-Bomber Alex Morgan joined North on a two-year deal in November, but the second season is not guaranteed".
1 year deal with trigger for the 2nd hence the statement
i doubt he reaches the trigger and think he will struggle to stay on the list

Sooooo nobody of any note other than Gaff & Polec is a free agent now.

What now North.

Keep in mind the fact we're open to trading our first pick.

We aren't doing that for somebody out of contract.

True, true. Still keeping that in mind. Just gotta hope someone comes to the table.

Collingwood might not be able to afford Tom Lynch, Andrew Gaff looms as ‘last man standing’

CAN Collingwood afford wanted Gold Coast co-captain Tom Lynch?

That might be the biggest question surrounding the Pies’ interest in the Suns forward as Herald Sun trade gurus Jon Ralph and Sam Landsberger cast their eye over the big names still in play in 2018.

Lynch remains the biggest name yet to recommit for 2019 as three Melbourne clubs firm in the race for his services. The goalkicker’s future came further into focus this week when Collingwood coach Nathan Buckley revealed he had met with Lynch earlier this season.

“What people have said to me is Collingwood have got a really tight salary cap already, they’ve already invested a lot of money elsewhere,” Jon Ralph said.

“So they’re saying to people ‘we’re really, really tight, we’re really stretched to fit him in’.

“Clearly they’re still interested in him but that’d be an issue for those guys.”

Lynch isn’t the only star whose future beyond 2018 is yet to be sealed, with Ralphy and Sam discussing the latest whispers on Eagles Andrew Gaff and Scott Lycett, Docker Brad Hill, Cat Tim Kelly and some premiership Tigers.

Will Bachar Houli and Shaun Grigg earn another contract at Punt Road or could they be tempted to a rival who can promise a longer deal?

“You’re probably a good chance of getting them,” Sam Landsberger said.

“I think Bachar Houli will definitely be on a list next year.”

But it’s uncertain times at the Western Bulldogs.

The club has extended the deal of hard nut midfielder Toby McLean, but the future of plenty of other Bulldogs isn’t so secure,

Geelong firming in race to keep gun midfielder Tim Kelly as Fremantle hopes fade

FREMANTLE is losing hope of securing Geelong midfielder Tim Kelly, believing he will sign a contract extension with the Cats this year.

After 19 disposals in the final quarter of the Cats’ Round 15 two-point loss to the Western Bulldogs, he was again supreme in their dramatic last-term comeback against Melbourne on Saturday night.

His last quarter saw him amass 10 disposals, two inside-50s, a score assists, a classy snapped goal and 53 ranking points.

The Dockers and West Coast would both be keen to secure his services if he decided to move home.

But Fremantle’s information is that he continues to tell Geelong he wants to remain and expects him to do so.

Dockers captain Nathan Fyfe recently said he would love to play alongside Kelly but not at the expense of young talent such as Victorian ruckman Sean Darcy.

Fremantle’s list manager Brad Lloyd is the brother of Geelong football boss Simon Lloyd, who has made clear they expect to re-sign Kelly.

The Dockers missed out on another key target this week when Jeremy McGovern signed on for five seasons at the Eagles.

It is understood that deal is worth up to $1.2 million a season, the same pay rate as Richmond’s Dustin Martin.

The Dockers had told McGovern’s management they would have matched any deals offered by Victorian clubs if he had chosen to leave the Eagles.

But despite missing on another trade target the Dockers will be content to again lean heavily on the draft this year.

Last year they secured Adam Cerra and Angus Brayshaw as top-five selections

Brad Hill seems content to remain in Western Australian despite being linked to a return to Victoria.

He is only two years into a five-season deal and has had a year of controversy that included a series of club breaches in a bar in May.

His management said yesterday that despite continuing speculation he has no interest in a return to Victoria, after being traded for pick 25 by the Hawks two seasons ago.

West Coast’s Scott Lycett will meet with his management in the next 48 hours as a long list of clubs pitch for his services.

He would clearly make more money leaving West Coast but indicated in a radio interview on Sunday he did not want his contract as a distraction entering finals.
