Richmond would help facilitate getting him to the team he wanted to get to, Swap of late picks just to get him to his preferred club

Gold Coast / Carlton / Essendon would be mad not to consider him
The gun what's your view on Corey Ellis?

Blues fans, would you consider the following trade for pick 1:

pick 1 for saints' 2019 1st round pick + Ross + McCartin

There's a strong likelihood saints end up with a top 5 pick next year so blues likely to end up with an early draft pick next year. Additionally, Ross is a seasoned mid who can come in to help out Cripps. Paddy the steak knives in the deal.

That is way too much for Lukosius. I'm a big wrap on the kid but come on, that's basically 3 first rounders for this one player
McCartin had his injury troubles but with some continuity, could still be a 30 - 40 goal forward a year. Not the star you guys hoped but still valuable. And Ross, who is a very good midfielder + a top ten pick? Madness

I believe it would take significant overs in order to acquire pick 1, especially this year as Lukosius is being touted as one of the top prospects over the last decade. I remember when saints had pick 1 in the 2014 draft, allegedly a trade with GWS was knocked back which would have seen picks 4 + 7 exchanged for pick 1 + 21.

The trade value of Ross and Paddy is very subjective. IMO I believe that Ross as a best case scenario is worth a mid to late 1st round pick while Paddy would most likely fetch a 2nd round pick at best. At this stage of his career, Paddy could either realise his potential and become a quality key forward or he could be one head knock from having his career ended prematurely. Not sure clubs would be banging down the door to cough up a first round pick for Paddy as much as I like him.

I will put the following questions to you:
1) What do you consider to be a fair trade for pick 1 (especially in the touted super draft)?
2) If you were Port's list manager, what picks would you be prepared to part for Ross and McCartin?

Not only does that seem to.be in favour of the blues by a fair bit but doesnt this weaken st kildas already poor midfield even further which would seem to be a higher priority for them to fix than their forward line.

Even if the saints retain Ross for next year, our midfield will still be one of the weakest in the comp. I believe that Ross is expendable. I feel that Ross would be the 4th best mid in a contending side. While he gets a lot of the ball, his disposal is not damaging enough.

I look at it from another perspective, if Lukosius goes on to become a once in a generation player of the comp, would people be complaining of the price paid for him? A criticism of the saints is the lack of a-grade talent on the list. Our best chance to get it will be through the draft. Over the last few years you are not seeing many marque players leaving their clubs via free agency, with only a few exceptions. So the chances of acquiring a top quality mid via free agency are highly doubtfully, especially for the saints. Kelly and Martin both knocked back substantial offers to stay with their respective clubs.

For me a fair trade for pick 1 would be either 2 top 10 picks or 1 top 10 pick and a quality best 22 player. My trade would likely be a top 10 pick + a mid to late 1st round pick + 2nd round pick (if lucky).

Second rounder? We’d have to find one or use a future pick.

I doubt you guys would let him go, it’s just someone a bit left field for us to target for our backline. Your backline seems pretty set without him atm.

The value of the trade would not match his worth ... we also have FS which complicate it. We might just lose the pick to a FS bid

Id only consider an R1 of some sort ..even if we have to balance it with a pick back. The 2 in 4 thing actually is a bit inaccurate .. it compels the use of R1's but it does not care about R2's and what the diff between a late R1 and a early R2 not a lot.

North trade their R1 for Polac and Port's R3

Nah

If north finally manage to convince someone to go there by making them one of their highest paid with a 5 year contract why would port give them up easily

Port gave up 1sts and 2nds for Dixon and Ryder who were leaving their clubs no matter what. North would be desperate to land Polec.
