Kennedy does need replacing, so it would be stupid of us not to try out all our options in Kennedy's role. Horse doesn't seem willing to do that. Still stuffing around with Heeney as a forward/midfielder, can't make up his mind. Still stuffing around with Hewett was a pure ball-winner/tagger, can't make up his mind. All I'm saying is let's give these guys a proper go in Kennedy's exact role to see if they're any good. Too hard to judge them when they can't even get a clean consistent run doing the one role.

Agree with all of that

I was talking long term off season

I’ve said before ideally Kennedy goes end of 2019

I didn’t know high numbers necessarily equated to a good game?

It suggests more involvement?

34, 29, 29, 29, 26, 23, 23, 22, 21, 19, 18, 17, 16, 12, 10

Those are his highest to lowest for the year and his 2nd, 3rd and 4th highest happened when Kennedy wasn’t in the team.

Of the three games where his output clearly increased, as demonstrated, one was against the reigning premiers and one was against the premiership favourites.

So not only did his output increase, but he also did it against two of the best teams in the competition.

I also remember him stepping up from watching the games.

Won't get any arguments from me, I'd love us to get a gun mid and/or ruck as our midfield is our biggest weakness. I just hope Horse still shows that faith internally to Hewett because he deserves it and has shown he's capable, just needs a chance.

Hewett will be a key swan going forward

So what? Because you said so because you watched it, it makes it meaningful? Who cares who he played, was his game any more meritorious? Did he play to the levels of Kennedy, did he actually have impact as opposed to slapping the ball on his foot or hand balling?

Was his effectiveness what made us win or lose by a close margin? Does output = input?

Does he go back to tagging when Kennedy plays? Why...because he can’t operate at the levels Kennedy can?

In Hewett's case they did. He's very clean, strong through the hips and his clearances are often more effective than just hack kicks and long bombs.
1 Coaches vote over those 3 rounds...really stepped up!

He did step up.
No he didn’t. He was just George Hewett, the same player that just doesn’t have the same status and impact as Kennedy...as someone said earlier! He’s got nothing on him and never will!

No less meaningful than your opinion. That’s all this is. You have yours, I have mine. That’s the end of it.

I didn’t say he was as good as Kennedy, or will be. Haven’t claimed that. Only said he stepped up his output during his absence.

hewett to kennedy is like saying JR Smith could of stepped up for lebron on the cavs

Disagree but agree to end it there!

I think that's a bit of a knock on him, and part of what has kept him out of the main side. His handballing and work within packs is great, and is reasonably agile, but from what I've seen/heard of his field kicking, there is work to do. I'd rate it at about average - not great, but it's not horrible either. Used to be terrible but he's really focused on improving. One of his biggest upsides is his leadership skills. He was VC of Gippsland Power in his U18 year, got B+F for Gippsland and finished 7th in the Morrish medal. I was genuinely shocked when he slid to our Pick 74 - I fully expected him to go in the top 40 that year, but I guess his size may have been a worry (182cm, 76kg).

I'm not overly familiar with Sydney's list, how is the disposal of your other mids? With the Dogs, Hunter's kicking is abysmal while Dunkley's is average at best, with Wallis equally atrocious as Hunter. This really limits how many more s**t or average kicks we can introduce into our midfield.

In terms of upside, there was a little comment a Dogs recruiter made about how Cal had won 9 B+Fs in 10 years, so was always a standout through juniors. One of his best U18 games he had 37 disposals and 4 goals.

I'd definitely rather we kept him because I think this kid has huge potential upside, but I also wouldn't blame him if he sought opportunity elsewhere, especially if it meant he could debut earlier. He's the type of kid who would cost a club next to nothing to trade him in (4th rounder at absolute best) but has massive upside. He's only 20 so has plenty of time to grow

Generally the disposal of Swans mids has been a bug bear for supporters for many seasons. The around the corner hack bomb inside 50 has been a staple of Parker and Kennedy and formerly Mitchell. It has been a rare occasion that you would see clean centre breaks and hitting a lead up target up in the forward line.

The first part of your post suggests that Cal may be a little similar to Tom Mitchell who many have lamented losing to Hawthorn. Hope he keeps working at his craft and gets an opportunity whether at the dogs or another club.

I come in peace.

Some smoke around us and Papley being in talks.

I thought he was one of your best last week vs us, and fills a definite need on our list.

What's a realistic price should those talks come to fruition?
Crows first

Not yet he doesn't.

Kennedy is the captain, he's been in the top few of the brownlow count numerous times, his leadership and training both on and off the field is awesome, he has 1 more year on his contract and is still averaging over 27 disposals and 6 tackles. Replace him????

I disagree. If not now, then when? Once he’s retired and a Hewett or a Heeney aren’t prepared to be the main man in the midfield? Wouldn’t it be better to have one of them stepping into that role now as a learning curve, while Kennedy is still around as a support act?

Is anyone else happy with Naismith, Sinclare, Knoll,, with Amartey and McLean as back ups. All should be fit round 1 next year.

Don't like Naismith , but he is Gunnadahs greatest player.
Cant remember what he looks like, I remember is tall!
Reckon we're better off trading a mid or half back (to release Mills, Dawson back to the mids) rather than another Ruck
