Funny the quick reaction and calls for no dh policy. That's the exact attitude that lead to 17 clubs including us passing on stack. 17 clubs look pretty stupid right now. Need to start looking for elite talent in alternative means to get us back up the top. Bennell is exactly that. Agree with superstar swan, a 1 year contract with clauses for performance and attitude won't hurt us.

How many seasons has Stack played limited games due to injury again? Bennell sure has been affected the past few and just can't get on the park. Yes to finding elite talent as all clubs desire to do, however no thanks to an injury prone player that has serious off field issues.

Tony Armstrong?

Serious though you can't go wrong with a 1 year contract. It doesn't work we all move on and paid very little for the chance we could pull it off.

hes being let go mid season, whats that tell you

He can't get on the park, so there's literally no point in taking the chance on character grounds. How many games has he played the last 4 years?
Nobody is that desperate. He'll have to prove it in the WAFL for a year I think.

Of course we have a record of rehabbing players, we’re constantly putting them through the process!

Ya young duffer. Our record seems to be one of consigning players to a long term purgatory, or they are jabbed up to play.

Hope we enquire about langdon

This is a really interesting one.

He put off contract talks to the end of the year, we have been rumoured to be interested previously and talk in the Melbourne media about the Demons being very keen has gone rather cold.

It's just the kind of deal that we like and don't hear about until it happens with us.

Bennell let go by the dockers. He is the type of player we absolutely must take a chance on. Not entirely convinced all of his "injuries" were exactly that. Highly skillful player and would instantly improve our team if we could get him right. Wouldn't cost the world either. High risk, high reward. Make it happen Sydney!

We aren’t the club to take a risk. Think most clubs would want to see him play a season at WAFL or whatever level first as well

It was his brother that we were linked to i believe

I really hope at the end of this year we go through our experienced players with a fine tooth comb and get rid of anyone who isn't cutting it. Quite a few names fit that bill who aren't doing enough to help us, but who at the same time have enough trade currency to bring in better alternatives.

I'd focus on that before even considering letting any of the youngsters go.

You said this in the other thread and I let it go because it would have dragged it #OffTopic but now you've raised it here.....

Who are these experienced players?

All I can think of is Jones.

Certainly in my view the resilience of a players body has to be a factor in drafting and retaining a player. The swans have done a great job rehabing players however it feels like that time is passing. Surely it hurts to have such a long list of players with wobbly bodies. They can be the best player in the world but if they can't string games together it doesn't work. Off the top of my head players who are now physically suspect include buddy, mcveigh, jack, reid, tucker, ling, naismith, smith, reynolds and grundy. All started the year on the list. Hawthorn have been pretty ruthless in making sure they move players on before they start to really breakdown. I think the swans should start to think more like this. I also think they should probably stay away from drafting players who arrive with serious long term injury issues.

I have a bad feeling about Papley. We will have to significantly up his pay packet to stay - which he deserves!!

Which I don't think we should have a problem paying. We're going to have a lot of salary cap space at the end of this year.

Bennell makes McVeigh's calves look like they are made of steel.
