How do you suppose we end up with 24 and 38?
24 from a future 1st swap, not that Geelong necessarily would.

38/39/41 are gettable on points with what we've got to give, not that Richmond necessarily would.

Points wise both trades stack up, and l don't see much else available..

Agree that Geelong likely wouldn't do that.

Not sure how we'd go trading our picks up. It would obviously have to be a win for the other club, one that has an academy kid they can use it on.

I kind of think the case for Geelong is pretty good.
They'll have their own 1st and West Coast's, which I'll say are picks 16 and 17 for the sake of argument.
With a few early bids those picks can easily blow out to 20 and 21, so having our pick would insulate them somewhat and give them more grunt for trading.
On top of that, we can say that p24 will be p26 after bids on Henry and Maginness.
As a strategic move for the Cats, l think it would make a lot of sense.

Although it's a bit naff for us, l tend to believe one of our posters in that our first next year will be traded again anyway, so there's little reason not to swap it for some value now.

I also like the poetry of taking Geelongs pick and using it on Cooper Stephens who seems to be a potential value selection.

Risk is GWS decide not to match and Melbourne get stuck with a player type they already have a surplus of. It's a nice idea but I don't see them doing it.

Melbourne trading 3 to Sydney for 5 and change (and a gentleman's agreement about who actually goes at 3), now that's a move

Machiavellian. I love it!

I'm happy to sit out this year but just to pass the time...

15 and GC 2nd for our 2020 1st?

Then next year we bundle up their 2020 2nd with Snake to get back into the 1st round

If not 15, would GC do 20 instead? Would we?

I still think the club has our 2020 1st earmarked for something though, so probably a moot point

Under current rules we can only trade it if we get another 1st back, you can either future trade a 1st round pick or any combination of picks after.

I thought we could trade next year's first if we got a 2nd. But i admit I dont know the rules in and out

The AFL don't know the rules in and out, I'm going off bits and pieces I've cobbled together

That's the thing. They say you can't do this, you can't do that - but any club can make a submission and the AFL don't seem to reject too many (see Geelong not having a 1st for 4 straight years iirc). You would just have to prove the method in your madness

AFL rules are made of Rubber.
The bigger the club the more they bend.

This lad was assigned to us as a rookie in one of the phantom drafts.

Isaac Wareham / GWV / 187cm / 80kg

Midfielder with speed and a bit of class about him. Presents well and one I think someone could take higher.

Has a nice look about him on his highlights reel, and is a bottom ager, turning 18 on the 24th December. We could do a lot worse..

ST KILDA
Picks: 51, 76, 82 (likely to use two selections)

Being the big players of the trade period means the Saints are anything but once the draft rolls around. They will start their draft later than any other club, back at No.51. St Kilda swooped on delisted Cat Ryan Abbott as a free agent last week but have also been linked to other rucks. South Australian Henry Crauford and Oakleigh tall Nick Bryan are there if the Saints want to add a fourth big man to their list. They could fill that gap with Bigoa Nyuon, a member of their NGA, as a category B rookie if he gets overlooked in the national draft. Given their picks are so deep, the Saints will be waiting to see if any players on their board slip through. Darcy Chirgwin (pictured below), a tall midfield accumulator, and Lachie Stapleton, a midfielder who won the Eastern Ranges' best and fairest in a Grand Final season, are two who could come into their thinking late, as well as small defender Jarvis Pina, who was overlooked last year.

So does the likely pick 2 mean Marsh is a senior and we have 38+3rkA+1rkB?

Joyce being our 3rd pick and 38th senior?

What happens if we select 2 and then someone bids on biggy?

Had a crack to work out picks likely to get eaten by bidding:

GWS (Tom Green) - Most likely scenario is Melbourne doesn't bid but someone in the top 10 after GWS's pick 4 will. There goes picks 40, 59 & 60 (plus deficit for next year).

St Kilda now has picks 50, 73 & 79

Freo (Liam Henry) - Similar to GWS, Freo will most likely burn all their picks after their top 10's. Goodbye 48, 57 & 66 (adjusted for GWS's bid).

St Kilda now has 49, 70 & 76

Hawks (Finn Maginness) - Estimate a bid around say 20, meaning 715 points to match. No more 41 (412 points) or 48 (302), 54 becomes 55 to get the last few points.

St Kilda now has 47, 68 & 74

Port (Jackson Mead) - And let's estimate a 25 bid (559 points). No more adjusted 48 (302) or 51 (259). These picks were originally 52 and 55.

St Kilda now enters the draft at 47, 66 & 72.

Not sure about other potential bids. Wonder how right this'll be?
Updated to reflect final draft picks of 51, 76, 82
