2019 Draft

Did Carlton just backup the stocker steal with the Philp steal. Who knows. No other reason for SOS to tirn 22 into 20 unless he believed Richmond we’re taking him. Talk on Carlton board that we were looking at him for awhile. Apparently Richmond fan according to tony de bolfo (Carlton historian).

Find it funny that Carlton were trying to do a deal with Adelaide to get pick 6 for their 9. They could have had the earlier pick if they didn't blow it on Stocker the previous year.

Seems Carlton prefers quantity over quality and I'm sure it will bite them in the ass again like it did when they traded in all those GWS hacks

Just watch the smiling highlights from the room around that time and tell me they were disappointed. It was a “we got em” again moment.
You coming to rd 1...i'll buy you a beer as you watch us unfurl the premiership flag. I won't take a drink as the carlton banner or shithouse cheersquad tarp will make me laugh

Proof Dow was always on our radar and we were worried Carlton were going in front of us to take him but like Stocker last year, got messed up and took Philp so we were relieved and happy!

But let this Carlton fan have his fun haha

It wasn’t for me, but it’s an article on our team visiting Dow on Friday and deciding then he was in our thought, Clarke then goes on to say we had him rated higher than where we got him and we were worried with clubs trading for picks before us but relieved he was there.

Why didn't we trade this pick for later?? same as Conca reaching for them so early. Mind blowing! Cant believe we didn't take Robertson!! Absolutely stunned still. Robertson sliding like Higgins did. Also would've taken Worrell/Bianco/Gould/Rivers/Jones/Rantall and probably 5 others ahead of him...and we didn't trade this pick down the draft. So silly.

Should honestly trade pick's 39,40,41 for the next pick to get Robertson.

7 Will Gould
12 Josh Worrell
14 Finn MacGuinness
15 Jackson Mead
16 Deven Robertson
20 Harrison Jones
21 Trent Bianco
24 Elijah Taylor
26 Dylan Williams
27 Jeremy Sharp
28 Harry Shoenberg
29 Cameron Taheny
30 Jay Rantall
31 Nick Bryan
32 Charlie Comben
33 Trent Rivers
36 Hugo Ralphsmith
37 Ryan Byrnes
38 Jack Mahoney
39 Dyson Hilder
40 Rhai-Arn Cox

42 Darcy Cassar
44 Brock Smith
46 Mitch O'Neill
47 Noah Cumberland
48 Darcy Chirgwin
49 Cooper Sharman
50 Lachlan Delahunty

Should be some decent players left at 40-42

I would take a punt on Williams and Taheny but do not anticipate them to reach our picks. Fraser Phillips for a late stab otherwise 2021 focus.

I had a look at Dow.

He runs a 3.06 20 metre sprint which is considered average. He is 183 cm 4 cm less than his brother he is still on the light side at 76 cm. The trouble is he is inconsistent to per Afldraft central profile. He will need to get better enduro and improve size and strength. Will this affect his speed and consistency?

Can he play back in a role before improving consistency??

The thing is the lack of a real competitive strength like size or speed could be why he is inconsistent apart from injury. I think atm he is a project player but I wish him the best in his development and I hope he really accelerates his development

Richmond says pick 21 Thomson Dow should dream of Round 1 debut against brother Paddy
Sam Landsberger, Herald Sun
November 27, 2019 10:42pm

The magic of premiership coach Damien Hardwick means No. 21 draft pick Thomson Dow could make his debut playing against brother Paddy Dow in the Richmond-Carlton Round 1 blockbuster next year.
The Tigers visited the Dow family’s stone fruit orchard in Swan Hill on Friday before closing in on the midfielder who only turned 18 last month.

“I’ve said this the last few years – with our coach, who knows (if Dow could debut in Round 1?” chief recruiter Matthew Clarke told the Herald Sun post-draft.
“If (Hardwick) thinks they train well enough and he finds a spot for them, he’ll pick them.

“It’s not like he’s going to say, ‘He’s a first-year player he has to wait’. He’s always had the courage to play players if he wants to.”

While a teenager breaking into the reigning premier’s best 22 straight away seems unlikely, Tiger fans can get excited at Dow’s lightning hands when an opportunity does arrive.

“He’s slightly different (to brother Paddy). He’s a little bit leaner through the body, they’re different body shapes,” Clarke said.

“He places inside, he can also play a little bit forward, he’s got great speed and really good lateral movement.

“But he’s got terrific hands, that’s what we love about him, his ability to clear the footy. He’s played some really good footy when he’s gone forward for Geelong Grammar too.”

The 182cm midfielder averaged 18 disposals for Vic Country this year.

“We had two or three in the mix. He (Dow) was a player that we rated a reasonable amount higher than where we picked him,” Clarke said.

“It was a little bit tight. We thought some clubs had done some trades that would come inside our pick that was a little bit of a concern, but we’re really happy.”

Thomson Dow completes the agility test at this year’s draft combine.

The Tigers have four more list spots open and will draft either three or four players tonight.

Dow just turned 18 so is younger than quite a few of the draftees and the club believe he has a huge upside. Hmmm we’ve done pretty well in the ol draft and development stakes of late so call me crazy however I’m prepared to back our professional full time recruiters to make the right call.

Its a bit speculative for me at that pick. Hope not but he could be a dud.

Unlike robertson does not have the consistency, nor the size of others nor the skill by foot of Bianco.

The other thing is I do not see how he gets past Bolton, Edwards, Graham etc..

Makes no sense to trade our first this year into next year unless it’s with a bottom 4-6 team as the pick for next year could be anything with how compromised it’s going to be
Well TB did mention Essendon.

Love how many Draft experts we have now, like clockwork every year. Phantom drafts and highlights are apparently better than our full time scouts who watch these guys for 3 years.

Can't wait till Dow becomes a Richmond man and plays well but if someone else has better Supercoach points then he's better than Dow.
