Cal Twomey reporting we are heavily into Luke Jackson, ruckman from WA. 198cms similar specs to Briggs.
Also heard we like Gould, Schoenberg and Pickett but unsure where they fall and whether gettable.

If we do end up with Jackson you would like to think that out of Briggs, Flynn and Jackson at least one of them will turn into an A grade ruckmen over the next few years.

Will GWS try get Ade pick 4? I hear they want Green which suits their list perfectly.

Pick swap with Adelaide or Melbourne to upgrade would appear likely. Melbourne would be absolute insurance but that could be problematic if they have a player in mind and I think they do.

Adelaide makes a lot more sense. They are notoriously difficult and always tend to win such deals so we will get bent over but ultimately if it allows us Green and one of Jackson/Ash/Gould then it’s worth it.

Next years draft is thin and heavily compromised so not fussed if we use collateral from there knowing our list depth with enable us to trade back in if required.

any chance that the crows could lever Tom Hately out in a possible trade? Thinking behind this is as follows.. Crows offer 4 + 49 + Jacobs for 6 + Hately. With Green coming in, it is going to make it harder for Hately to get game time considering you guys bat very deep in midfield. It would probably value Hately in the second round and virtually ensures you get Green and the other player you want. From the crows end, it is a SA player back, a young mid that we need and we can still get one of the better kids in the draft? thoughts

Edit..trading jacobs ensures no possible downgrade to the tomlinson free agency compo

I think Hately was/is being groomed to take over tomlinson’s wing spot IIRC so unsure if he will struggle to get game time but time will tell i guess

so if we get to our pick 6 and Green hasn't for some reason been bid on, and we take best available - what's our points situation if he gets bid on at 7?

A bid at #7 would see the 1644 points discounted to 1315. We would match with 733 points currently (picks #40, 59 & 60) - if we get pick #50 from Hawthorn for Patton then it would be 1006 points paid, leaving us 309 points adrift. We may elect to just exhaust all of our points this year and accept a reduction to our first round pick next year rather than lose points trying to trade up the order further. Just treat it as a transaction where we are essentially just borrowing from the future income.

The alternative would be to trade up using the future pick as collateral, or trade up using a player - Bonar if we traded up with Melbourne or Hately if we traded up with Adelaide. But the closer range upgrade should not see us lose as much value.

I must admit, I'm surprised at trading with Saints - I would have presumed trading out 6 would compromise their trade for Hill (but have wondered how the **** they were going to get all of their trade targets this year! Famine to feast in getting players in for them!!)

I think that the main board suggestion is probably right - we'll look to trade with Melbourne for their pick #3 with #6 and a player; Bonar presumably given the rumbles although there's been nothing really from the exit meetings so could be someone unexpected. #6 & Bonar for #3 and #22 is about an even trade on points. Reasonable for them - only go down 3 places and probably still get a player that matches their needs plus Bonar who also fits a need; while we have the choice we want and then with #22 and our other later picks we can match a pick from #4 onwards for Green. Given that we can't carry too many late picks (otherwise we need to open up more list holes), we'll probably throw in pick #59 or #60, and/or use one of those for Jacobs.

A couple of win-win trades.

Sydney, Adelaide and Melbourne don’t need a player like Greene. We are laughing!

I can tell you Adelaide love Green and he also interviewed very well for Sydney. Adelaide always draft strategically so they will bid knowing we would match and would knock us out of another player.

Sydney would do it because they love him and we their arch enemy, plus we bid on Blakey last year....recruiters have long memories.

We need to get up to 4 as a minimum.

Sydney definitely need a player like Green. Especially with Zak Jones likely leaving during this trade period, we desperately need a tough inside mid. At the moment the only player we have who fits the bill is Josh Kennedy who is nearing the end of his career. One he retires we have no one in that mould.

Green would be a perfect fit for us.

I agree he fits there nicely

But I think we will get ahead of you

For those who know exactly how slow is this guy? Seems a strange profile for a likely #4 pick.

Also he looks somewhat, er, "solidly" built in the photos

He’s one paced in the same manner Taranto and Hopper are but he is a big strong clearance king. He runs into contests, extracts the ball and gets it out. With his height and strong body he’s very valuable.

I love him and happy we are getting him but we must bring in some speed around him. We’ve seen what has happened to Adelaide and Melbourne with one paced midfields.

Sorry to interrupt ...but our midfield is all the same ...180 - 182 cm one paced players ...no size

Greene is exactly the player we need .....or we gamble on Kemp
