Two for me Coniglio and Jones particularly if we can't get Cogs over the line don't rate any of the rest
Ladhams -PortAdel, Lynch -Collingwood young ruckman interest
Papley-Sydney, AhChee-GoldCoast, Bolton-Richmond, Small forwards 'think Bolton stays'

Coniglio- Jones if can't land cogs
Papley- 22yrs forward/midfielder
AhChee- 21yrs forward
Ladhams- 22yrs ruckman/forward
Gibbons- Upgrade onto senior list
1.Draft
2.Draft
Apparently Norf are into Ladhams....according to the media, he'll likely be looking at opportunities elsewhere....out of contract at the end of the season.

Heard or read that maybe a month ago somewhere, looked into him and some highlights from sanfl only on rookie list but his athleticism agility and footy smarts to me were pretty impressive would be a major upgrade at 22yrs for our ruck depth to support Kruezer

Fasolo such a big misttake.

SOS wrote himself a note at the end of 2017 'Next year we recruit some FAs!'

By trade week last year, he'd forgotten what he meant to say and recruited Fas by mistake.

Pretty sure.

On Talking footy tonight, suggestion that dogs are hunting Tippa... Rumoured at $450k, and dopers may not be able to match due to tight cap.
Would love Tippa running around for us.

Tippa must be worth $900K across games his team wins.

Coz he does nothing when * loses.

The 2 holding the balls, got pushed off the ball another time across half back that resulted in a goal when he started with a 5 meter head start.

He’ll make a good suburban footballer somewhere, but he ain’t up to this level
Go and watch SPS, Fisher, LOB and Dow in their first games and then come back and see me.

I know Goddard tried to bury himself by kicking the ground twice, so he's gone too. Wait, no, that was his second game, we'll give him a pass.

Schumacher will be a good honest player for us.

There’s a kid at Port that might be worth a look. Can’t crack there rotation but is a big unit mid - Willem Drew. Pick 33 in his draft and rated well.

Slow and lacks a second position. Better to draft our own who will be hitting their straps as Ed is starting to decline rather than paying more for a bloke who will be expecting senior game time sooner.

So Cripps is no good either???

Didn't say Drew was no good - said he was slow and lacks a second position.

If we brought him across, I don't see him getting a run in our midfield when we have Cripps, Curnow, Walsh, Setters, Dow, Murphy, O'Brien, Fisher, SPS, Stocker, Cuningham, Silvagni and Kennedy all in or on the edge of the 22.

If Drew is going to move clubs, he's going to want opportunity, and I don't think that's something we can offer him based on the competition already on our list.

Hence my suggestion that we'd be better off drafting a similar type (either this year or next, depending on available players/picks) who would be 3-4 years younger and could be developed for two years in the VFL before coming in for Curnow. Would also save us $150-$200k per season for the next couple of years compared to what Drew would probably be on, which would be invaluable if we're chasing guys like Cogs and Papley.

There are things to work with there. Sunday didn't determine whether he makes it or not just gives us a bit more info.

How many people would have cut simmo after his first three games when he didn't get a touch? Some people round here make me laugh.

These are the only 3 i'm interested in TBH.

We have decent depth now...guys like Kennedy, Deluca etc are doing a job. We have quite a lot missing right now.

Any recruits need to improve our starting 18 imo.
Guys like Ellis, Newnes, Cunningham could be useful, but i don't think they are even best 22 if we had no injuries...so not interested.

I’d consider all for the right price, for varying reasons.

I will accept though I’m in the minority on many of those names.

When it comes to player acquisition I like to think outside the box a little.

For example:

- I don’t want Stephen Hill, but if we can get his brother cheaper by bringing him across I’m all for it.

- Nathan Jones isn’t the player he was but would a 2 year deal entice his brother to join as well?

- Does Mundy have coaching aspirations, and would a 1 year playing contract with a 2 year coaching contract be of interest?

I think clubs (and supporters) can often be too rigid in their thinking when there are other options available.

I don’t agree that free agents have to be stars or in the top, say, 5-10 players at their new club.

Now more than ever footy is about a strong squad rather than simply a strong 22. Depth (yes, Thy, depth) is critical.

Also need to keep in mind that talent/profile isn't the be all and end all when it comes to best 22 selection.

What percentage of Carlton fans would have put Silvagni, Casboult, Newman and Gibbons in our best 22 at the start of the season? I reckon you'd find a 50/50 split at best, and plenty would've had no more than one of those names in consideration.

Are Ellis, Newnes or Cunningham in our best 22 on paper, right now? Probably not. But maybe what they offer simply works with what we have, and they'd end up an integral part of the whole.

I reckon all 3 of those would slot straight into our 22. Especially Ellis. He’s been in the best 10 if not 5 at Richmond this year. At the very least it pushes Dow, O’Brien, Kennedy, Stocker etc. to work harder for a spot and boosts our depth.

Two of those plus a Papley/Martin and a back up ruck would be fine by me.

I think Ellis would be a great addition in so many ways.
Add him to defence, Conglio in the midfield, Martin wing/hf then Papley as a small forward to what we have and we are in an awesome position

Ellis and Cunningham are half back flankers.

Simmo could actually get another year, but let's assume he retires.

Pending injury, Doc, Daisy, Newman & Willo could easily be our starting 4 smaller defenders. If not Willo then we have SPS & can start developing Stocker/Schumacher.

If we play Marchbank, we usually only roll with 3 smaller defenders.

Correct.

As fans we are seduced by filling the side with youth but there's a lot more to it than that, in reality.

Every side needs role players, every side needs good solid foot soldiers. We are no different.

Yep.

FWIW I had Newman a certain starter but recall being in the very small minority on that front.

Think I had JSOS and Gibbons fighting for a spot on the bench with Casboult nowhere near it.

On paper maybe not, but the game isn't played on paper.

I am very confident that if we brought any of those three names into the club they'd play plenty of senior footy in 2020.

Ellis and Cunningham are half back flankers.

I think both are best utilized up on a wing rather than at half back.

Daisy won’t last forever. Probably has 1 year left in him, 2 at the absolute max. I love Willo as much as the next but with his injury issues he’s just a bonus at the moment.

Ellis could easily play on a wing as Walsh and Setters move towards more midfield minutes next year. Cunningham is not so much a need but would be best 22 nonetheless. We shouldn’t be saying no to an experienced head like him if he indicates he’d like too come.

Oh hello ...

Hill has every intention of playing in Melbourne next year, with his partner to move back home over summer and the star wingman expected to join her.

Clubs including Carlton, St Kilda and Hawthorn who are desperate to find out Stephen Coniglio’s decision could transfer interest to Hill if they miss out on the GWS star.
Carlton has a determination to trade its first-round pick (Adelaide’s No. 11 selection), with a pick around that mark likely to be required to satisfy Fremantle.

Not necessarily.

He was supposedly after $800,000 per year, he hasn't played like a player who deserves it and his manager has probably found out the offers aren't even close to that. To stay at GC he will probably make a lot more money.

Yea, $800k is too much for Martin.

I'd comfortably pay $600k to get him out of GC but not much more.

Even at $600k, you're paying for upside and potential as opposed to performance.
