It is easier to play youth when the pillars of the team are strong.

Ours are not. Carlton and Melbourne have played a.lot of kids in the past ten years. So have Gold Coast.

The teams you mention all have a solid midfield, backline and forward line. Although Collingwood debatable in regards to forward line. All of these areas are solid for them due to genuine elite players in those key areas. They play a few.kids who can create and play but roles knowing they have a solid base to work from as a team.

Our backline is our strongest line. Debatable if we have an elite player down there. Midfield is terrible, particularly defensively. None of Sloane, Crouchs et al are elite. Midfield is our biggest issue. Forward line marginally better, also most affected by age.

It is all well and good to say play the kids. But for what end if those kids merely learn to survive rather than thrive due to a lack of protection.

Having said that I do think we could be a more balanced side if we persisted with Hberg instead of Jenkins. Give McPherson/Hamill a run instead of Mackay. Happy RoB has been persisted with over Sauce. Hope the same happens with Stengle over Eddie. Admit Tex is injured and play Fog. And give Davis another shot. And give McHenry some games if he is available for selection soon.

These to me are the youth that should be playing till the end of the year with the list we have and players availiable.

But none of that changes the fact we dont have any elite genuine midfield talent. With the one guy I feel could make that grade being Milera. I personally cant see Gooch or Jones making it at that level. Which make me wonder what Hamish saw in them as first round picks.
