What is the general consensus with Port? Does anyone think they are improving next year? People were talking up Port massively last year, they finished the season in abysmal form and then lost Polec and Wingard. Burton is a great pickup and a big fan of Rozee... but feel Robbie Gray might have seen the last of finals action in his career now.
The caution I'd have about writing them off is it looked like they lost the players they wanted to lose. You really cant tell what's going on in a club from the outside.

I really thought they were serious contenders early on and they ended the year badly. Not certain that means they're screwed for next year though.

Wow, a lot of love on here for Tigers or Melbourne to win the flag. Interested to know people's reasoning.

And why so convinced it won't be Eagles or Pies?

(Disclosure: I have NFI who will win, and never do.)

For Eagles it is difficult to go back to back into today’s competition. Collingwood would be favoured however wouldn’t given their draw.

It is a very open market and the draw plus injuries to key, important key players, will be deciding factors.

Premier: Melbourne
Runner-up: Collingwood
Minor premier: Collingwood
Wooden spoon: Carlton / Gold Coast
Team/s to rise: Fremantle, N.Melbourne, Essendon, Brisbane
Team/s to fall: Port Adelaide, West Coast, Richmond, Hawthorn (Hawks to miss the 8)
Brownlow Medal: N.Fyfe (FRE) / J.Kelly (GWS) (both will depend on fitness and staying fit)
Coleman Medal: J.Kennedy (WCE)
Norm Smith: M.Gawn (MEL)
Rising Star: A.Brayshaw (FRE) (Will come back stronger and fitter from the broken jaw last year)
AA smoky: T.Langdon (COLL)
Best recruit: R.Lobb (FRE) / T.Lynch (RIC)
Worst recruit: L.Neale (BRIS) / G.Rohn (GEE)
Biggest shock: Hawks to miss the finals by 3-4 ladder positions, West Coast and Richmond to fall to the bottom half of the top 8.
Biggest controversy: Big name player to miss out on Brownlow due to poor MRP call. (Not the two listed above, someone in the likes of a Danger, Gawn or Cripps)
Certainty: AFL will regret rule changes and mid-season trades
Impossibility: Sydney, Geelong, Collingwood and Melbourne will miss the 8
Other: Fremantle and Essendon to fight for the 8th spot on the ladder in round 22 with the winner taking the spot in the finals.

Like every Freo fan Freo to rise and WC to fall. Keep dreaming and maybe it'll eventually happen

Like every Freo fan Freo to rise and WC to fall. Keep dreaming and maybe it'll eventually happen

Freo will rise this year the will finish between 8 and 11, and as stated above in my predictions the Eagles will still play finals and still be the highest WA team on the ladder, but I don't see them finishing top 4 this year let alone going back to back. Therefore, not like all Freo fans, just saying it will happen, I truly think it will happen.

Freo to move from 14th in 2018 to between 8th-11th in 2019, therefore, being an improvement and a rise up the ladder.
Eagles to move from 1st and being the premiers in 2018 to between 4th-7th in 2019 and therefore is a backwards move from 2018 and a fall down the ladder.

I didn't say Freo will be top 4 and Eagles do not make finals. I made a serious prediction that I feel with the team changes will happen.

So like a typical West Coast fan, this is exactly where you went and thought I was being a typical Freo fan and going completely against the Eagle, but I wasn't. Eagles will still be the highest WA side on the ladder, but they won't be premiers and there will be fewer positions between them and Freo on the ladder then last year.

I may be a Freo Fan, but I call the comp how I see it and this is what I feel will happen in 2019 looking at team trades, recruiting and player injuries and management.

Everyone thinks their own team will rise. There's just not really much point even saying it. It's the side that everyone pays the most attention to. In my opinion Saints are in for a massive rise this year.

I'd agree the Saint will rise this year too but maybe only one or two spots. I feel the 4 teams I listed to rise and the 4 teams I listed to fall will rise/fall 3-5 positions

Premier: Richmond
Runner-up: Melbourne
Minor premier: Richmond
Wooden spoon: Gold Coast
Team/s to rise: Adelaide, Brisbane
Team/s to fall: Geelong, Swans
Brownlow Medal: Angus Brayshaw
Coleman Medal: Tom Lynch
Norm Smith: Trent Cotchin
Rising Star: Jack Lukosis
AA smoky: Eric Hipwood
Best recruit: Tom Lynch
Worst recruit: Dan Hannebery
Biggest shock: Buddy pulls the plug fter Swans miss 8
Biggest controversy: Rule changes scrapped mid-year as scoring unexpectedly plummets
Certainty: Melbourne, Richmond & West Coast 3+ wins ahead of 4th
Impossibility: "We believe the AFL is too unfairly biased towards Victorian teams" - Gil
Other: Bigfooty declares teams that win 1 game to be "contenders/smokys" and those that lose 1 in a row to be "pretenders/overrated"
I can get around this

I'd love for the Eagles to have another great year and fight for back to back, but after what I witnessed at the MCG on September 29th just how upset can I get about footy haha.

Well, this is going well.
Premier: Richmond
Runner-up: GWS
Minor premier: Richmond
Wooden spoon: Gold Coast
Team/s to rise: Brisbane, Carlton, Essendon
Team/s to fall: Collingwood, West Coast,
Brownlow Medal: Angus Brayshaw
Coleman Medal: Tom Lynch
Rising Star: James Worpel
AA smoky: Majak Daw
Best recruit: Chad Wingard
Worst recruit: ?
Biggest shock: Gay Player outed
Biggest controversy: Bonuses given to GCS
Certainty: Hamish McLoughlin is the worst commentator.
Impossibility: Collingwood premiership
Other: Another finals ticketing SNAFU

Premier: Richmond
Runner-up: Melbourne
Minor premier: Richmond
Wooden spoon: Gold Coast
Team/s to rise: Essendon, Adelaide, Bulldogs and Brisbane
Team/s to fall: Sydney, Hawthorn and North Melbourne
Brownlow Medal: This one's quite tough. Dustin Martin maybe?
Coleman Medal: Josh Kennedy (WCE)
Norm Smith: Dion Prestia
Rising Star: Sam Walsh
AA smoky: Dion Prestia
Best recruit: Dylan Shiel
Worst recruit: I'm going to opt out of this question
Biggest shock: Perhaps a star player getting a season ending injury.
Biggest controversy: Umm, umpire decision costs a team the 4 points?
Certainty: I don't want to call it a certainty, but I believe Melbourne would be the last team I see miss the 8.
Impossibility: Again, I don't want to call it an impossibility, but I believe Gold Coast would be the last team I see make the 8.
Other: With the new 6-6-6 rule preventing teams from flooding the backline at centre bounces, I feel like we will see some big scores being kicked when some lower sides become unable to stop the one-way traffic. On that note, I think that Melbourne will kick 190+ in a match.
