This is where Gubby proves his worth. If Coniglio doesn't come, we should target Hopper or Tarantino, even though they will cost players and/or picks. Depending on who you listen to, Tomlinson is a strong chance to be with us for 2020, through FA. Go Gubby!
He is Jason Blake with upgrades. I’ll take that as the versatility is fantastic in a 22.Tomlinson doesn't cut it I'm afraid. Very food midfielders or tread water. Thats the equation.
It’s worth what someone is willing to pay for it.How much is a first round draft pick worth?
I'd say if you were to put a figure on it it would have to be worth close to a million if not more, we don't need to give up one for Cogs let alone two. This, and the fact that we have had too much money spare in the cap for probably five plus years means we need to pay up to move forward.
So as obscene as $1.4pa seems, in reality it won't even be noticed.
There is the argument that our current players won't be happy earning nearly a million less a year than Cogs, it's a genuine concern but at this point I don't know anyone who should be questioning such a deal.
As I said previously, Cogs saying yes, if he does, will create a flow on effect with a couple of other young guns happy to double their salary over their career.

We could throw captaincy into the convo provided he spends a year in the leadership group first, I wouldn't even be upset making him skipper straight up but I think that would ruffle a few feathers among the players and supporters.
Dunkley resigns. Let’s focus in on Papley as a trade target. Although that Caleb Serong out of the draft sounds good and would be similar style of player.
Another bit of hindsight hero. Would have loved for us to have a crack at Sam Lloyd in the off season. Is up to 20 goals already and is getting around 16 possies a game. Been a shrewd pick up by the dogs. Exactly what we need.
No chance
Quality is quality. There's room for more than one good hit up player in a F50. He does more at ground level than Membrey and doesn't have the contested marking game. They're different enough.Yeah, he was a good player when the Tigers were ****, he was pretty unlucky not to get played when they shot back up the ladder. My only concern for us is that he's too much like Membrey, he's really a lead up forward in a small package.
Out of Whitfield, Taranto, Kelly and Coniglio, Cogs would be my last pick, but I'm still happy to throw 1.4mil at him.
The one where we don’t have to give up good picks, of which we have very few of, or good players, of which we also have very few of, is the one I’d be looking at.Coniglio is under rated, he's more of a hard worker than the others, Kelly and Whitfield are elite runners but are more outside, most of our mids are very outside already. Coniglio wins his own ball and suits us more, Taranto won't be going anywhere, his young enough to want to make a name and expect less money. Cogs is also older and more experienced, has more leadership qualities and is a free agent, he's the first I'd be looking at.

He doesn’t move the needle in terms of making us a contender on his own but he moves the needle with a team consisting of Cogniglio Steven Carlisle King And a fit Hanners
What would you pay for Papley though? He's capable of being excellent or a spud depending on the day. I reckon Sydney would want a minimum of a future second.

A future second is about right I think. When you think of the player we have secured with end of first round and early seconds (Dunstan, acres,Dmac,Goddard, long) it would be a good outcome for the club.

We need to add talent not simply swap talent.
So yes; Cogs [emoji1303]
dead right
People said the same thing about Blake. In the end he was integral to those back to back grand final sides. A superstar team is better than a team of superstars.I hate the way modern sides pick a guy that can play 7 positions at an adequate level instead of a gun in one position. To me he's always been mostly a loose defender who runs around on a flank, that one position we really don't have too many holes.
I reckon 22 superstars would win but you can’t have that with salary capPeople said the same thing about Blake. In the end he was integral to those back to back grand final sides. A superstar team is better than a team of superstars.
I think he's worth more than a future second. He's a quality footballer amd hes only just hitting his straps.A future second is about right I think. the Thomlinson thing kind of reminds me of the Salopek thing ... for pretty much his entire career was linked to coming to the saints but it never eventuated .. im not convinced that this talk of Thomlinson isnt the same situationHe is Jason Blake with upgrades.
