Which we could definitely use. Just not sure it is the highest off-season priority for us.

Having said that there really isn't a quality out of contract winger or HBF available as far as I am aware.
Jack Newnes is a free agent while Rory Atkins and Ed Langdon are both out of contract. Any of those 3 could slot into a wing spot on Lions' list. None are necessarily A-grade stars, but all 3 are decent to very good players

Caleb Daniel Brandon Ellis and Adam Tomlinson would be the players I'd be looking at all out of contract at seasons both Tomlinson and Ellis are free agents
Caleb Daniel signed a 3-year deal recently

Atkins is an interesting one. Langdon I can't see coming to Qld - if he leaves WA he'll go to Vic.

I believe there were 5 clubs chasing Langdon at the moment, and all 5 were from Vic (Dogs, Melbourne, Saints, Carlton and North? Might be wrong on a couple of those). Atkins is the one I can see heading to QLD if a good offer were put in front of him. He was apparently talking to Dogs management last year about a potential trade, but nothing came of it, but he sounds like he's open to relocating

Yeah sure, obviously we will have our targets amongst the contracted players too. Just making the point that there aren't obvious out of contracted players who would solve our positions of need whereas there are some intriguing types amongst positions where we could do with a bit of an upgrade but aren't as pressing (e.g. inside mids).

No chance he leaves but Dunkley would be a great target, for example.
Dogs fans appear open to trading him if the return helps them net a key forward e.g. Harry McKay who they've bene linked with. I'd say internally he'd be a priority re-signing though. Would love for us to target Dunkley. Would be a great addition to the midfield.

Backline to wing is where we do still need a bit. You could really add to the team by bringing in someone who can just play that role, dont need to be a household name.

We do have a few picks this year, it would be good if we could trade in 1 more player, someone with some speed to add to our team. Bailey has added a lot as a very young and raw player simply because of his speed and they way he plays. Shows that you could find a good value trade here i think.

Ideally id like to add 1 or 2 more mids via FA over the next couple of seasons and our performance this year hopefully helps in attracting some. We still have some youngsters coming through, but would be nice to add some immediate depth.

Previous years we needed everything, it does finally start to feel like we can really target players/positions of need which shows good list development.

Who would your club target in a mid-season trade?

Brisbane

Trade targets
Darcy Parish: In his fourth season, the Essendon midfielder falls right in the wheelhouse of experience to blend nicely into Brisbane's list.

Oskar Baker: Desperate to find some speed in their back half, the Queenslander would be a perfect target to bring home and play a wing/half-back role.

Second-round draft pick: Already equipped with two of these, the Lions need to stack up points to ensure they secure rapidly improving Academy product Keidan Coleman.

On the table
Tom Cutler: Blessed with speed and a penetrating right boot, Cutler started in the NEAFL this season and was dropped just three games after being called up. The Victorian is good enough to be playing every week.

Lewis Taylor: Like Cutler, is on the fringe of the club's best 22 but is out more than he's in at the moment. Could definitely help a team needing speed in its front half but is trapped behind Lincoln McCarthy as a half-forward.

First-round draft pick: Just like Lachie Neale and Charlie Cameron the previous two years, the Lions would be happy to part ways with a high-end pick to secure mature talent. They currently have Collingwood's first round selection.

:O

Are they suggesting he's going to be going early enough in the first round that we'll need some combination of Collingwood's first round, GC's second round, our second round and another second round pick to match???

(Yeah, I realise it's more likely that it's lazy journalism and that they didn't bother considering that basically any bid after about pick 12 can be matched by any one of those three picks.)

Darcy Parish would be a handy get if we give him bulk midfield minutes. Had a great game over the weekend.

I assume Fish wrote that section (no chance anyone else has heard of Coleman) and it is to go with the idea that we might be interested in trading Collingwood's first round pick. But you are correct.

I like Fish a lot but draft/FA/trading is not his area of interest/speciality so its not surprising he didn't put a lot of thought into how a coleman bid would actually go.

I couldn’t imagine him being bid on in the first 40 picks at this stage.

Yep, I’m the same.

I’ll wait until after the U18 champs, but I tend to agree.

An interesting discussion will be who do supporters rate higher, Will Martyn or Keidan Coleman?

There’s some discussion on the draft board that Martyn is in the discussion as a top 30 pick.

Would be good to trade in some talented younger players who are yet to fulfil their potential at their current clubs e.g. Sam Petrevski-Seton, Jy Simpkin, Aiden Bonar or Jye Caldwell.

SPS and Simpkin would be awesome gets. Simpkin knows Clug/Berry/Witho well.

I don't think you can realistically list a first year draft pick who isn't playing in a top 3 side a pleyer who is yet to full-fill their potential. thats a bit of a stretch tbh

I wasn't saying it was a bad thing. No one would have expected him to have fulfilled his potential at this stage. We'd have to pay up for all four of them if we wanted them. They wouldn't come cheap. Would be worth it though, especially with guys like SPS and Simpkin who have already been in the system for a few years and shown their talent and would likely thrive in a better team.

Pretty sad seeing Schache listed. I hope he's prepared for life after footy because it might be starting soon

The St Kilda section interested me.

Would Nick Coffield really be gettable.

If Parish and Coffield were both gettable, I would give up a fair bit of this years draft assets to get both in.

He isn't getting a game and every time it is mentioned by a journo it is followed by "and I don't know why not". There must be a reason but everyone thinks he should be in st Kilda's best 22.

Sounds like he is the saints equivalent of Tom Cutler.
That’s close to the answer I received on the Saints board.

Has been asked to work on his defensive game in the VFL.

Will Brodie and Brayden Sier are both players I’d be interested in getting. Good inside ability, and would add to our depth/push some players into depth. Coffield and Parish sound good as well.

Given Brodie has never been able to get a game for a terrible GC I'm not sure what hope he would have of getting a game for us. He was thought of very highly in his draft year so something has gone horribly wrong with his development.
Sier I'd take every day of the week :)
Coffield is another one that inexplicably can't get a game at St. Kilda so I'm sure a number of teams will be asking questions to his manager.
Parish I'm not sure about (gee that 2015 draft was a bit of a bust overall)

I'm not sure Brodie offers anything more than what Ely Smith will. Brodie's in the same Dew Doghouse that Lyon's was. Purely inside mid who doesn't spread and struggles with defensive run. He's not really standing out in a very poor GC NEAFL side.

While Parish isn't a big body, he puts his head over the ball, can spread, runs both ways and can kick a goal when forward. His stats from the weekend game against Richmond:
31 Disposals
19 Contested
5 Tackles
9 Clearances
7 Score Involvements
70% Efficiency
507 meters gained

Purely from my perspective, Parish is an upgrade on both Lyons and Mathieson.

I am a big advocate for enticing Parish up here if at all possible!
