Just started a Harley Bennell thread on the D&T board to see if there is much discussion. I have heard there is interest from one of the four Northern clubs(GC, us, Syd and GWS). Could it be us? Perhaps Fagan thinks he can get the best out of him and our medical staff can get him on the park? Doubtful I'd think. You'd have to rule GC out as well. I think GWS might give him a go.

I'd hope not, don't rock the boat. A boat that is floating very well.
Exactly.Where in Melbourne they spend most of their time out of the club with family, but here with each other.

Live in Perth seen him out off chops quite a few times when meant to be rehabing his injuries . Not the player you want to be bringing into your team I would have thought .
My thought would be Sydney or GWS!

When you think of Family club ... pulling together for your mates ... solid group ... disciplined ... thinking about other's strengths and how you can help ... solid citizens ... leadership potential etc does the name Harley Bennel really pop into anyone's mind except as the antithesis of Liondom.

Then again I suppose we thought the same about Mitch *shrug* mind you we were his first redemption slot.

Kind of reminds me of a girl I knew way back who hooked up with a guy who had been divorced six times ... she couldn't understand why we would be in any way concerned about his character...

Hell no, who cares about talent when the guy is a complete flog and hasn’t played a meaningful game in 3-4 years.

Another nice piece of trading by our club. :thumbsu: :squaredcool:
If I'm being honest, I was very critical of our club for making that trade. It was the trade that pushed through the Beams trade, which pushed through the Neale trade, but I thought that the GC trade in particular, we took a big loss, even though that meant making a smaller profit on the Beams trade. Quite happy to admit that I was wrong there. Good profit on the GC trade, good profit on the Pies trade. Win-win... Well, we win both times, but that's the best version of a win-win!

Also worth noting that the first pick of the second round is actually quite a valuable pick. Draft now being over two days - the first round finishes, and lots of clubs have all night to think about who is left. That pick becomes valuable trade bait. Last year GC decided that they REALLY wanted Jez McLennan - traded WC pick 27+32 for 23 (first pick of R2) and a future 5th rounder. Apparently a few other clubs inquired about the pick as well. Astute traders would hold that pick until the draft, refuse to trade it, and then start looking at offers through the night, when everyone knows exactly who is left...

I would think we might seek to trade up using our first two picks. Would get us a pick in before any potential early bids for Coleman.

I'm sure Lachie Neale would have input into whether we took a chance on Harley Bennell, if Noble, Fagan, Ambrogio, and Conole in consultation with Lachie and our medical team decided to give him a go I'd support it 100%.

In saying that I don't see it happening though.

I don't believe we'll see an early bid for Coleman.

He's looked good in a dominant team, but from my uneducated opinion, there's at least 3, possibly 4, players just as talented, who play a similar game.

But I would be all for, for trading up in this years draft. There was an interesting discussion last night on the draft board in regards to the KPP players in this years draft.

There is seriously no KPF's worth drafting in the first two rounds. Because it was such a weak pool of KPF's at this years U18 Championships, how do teams judge this years KPD'ers. There's potentially one who "might" be considered a first round talent, but it's quite possible the other KPD's are just as talented, and none, even the top KPD, look like stepping in and playing straight away next year.

So teams should be focusing on mids, flankers and small forwards/defenders with their early picks. And again, it's looking like a weak pool for mids and wingers this year as well.

Coleman has been good, but I don't think he's been that good. Unashamed fan, but he's a very slight small forward. I don't think I'd give up an early second rounder for him.

Has he fallen away a little in the back end of the year so far?

Not that I've noticed. But he isn't dismantling games on his own - he's playing well in a fully functioning AFL-grade NEAFL team.

He's still 6 months removed from the kid who wasn't drafted by any club in the ND or RD. I've liked what I've seen in those 6 months, but I think the earlier talk about him being a 2nd rounder was a bit much. He's shot up, and I could understand him bypassing the Rookie Draft and going in the 4th round of the ND this year, or even the 3rd. But early second just seems overkill.

I know others have said similar, but a guy overlooked in the previous draft, linked to a club, playing in a non-VFL/WAFL/SANFL comp, that went through the elite pathways (relatively speaking) in his draft year is basically full of "not a first round pick" flags. Guys like Isaac Smith or Harry Taylor or Tim Kelly (probably a first round pick if not for the go home rumours) had more runs on the board in their early 20s. Sometimes you get 19 year olds taken but most of those spent the extra year as an overager in the TAC Cup and got extra exposure. Coleman will suffer from a "why didn't he show it last year" attitude, combined with "anyone could look good in that Lions reserves team".

So, in summary, you reckon we're odds on to take him with our first pick.

I was critical too and like you, should admit I got it wrong, which I do. As it stands now, looks another pretty shrewd piece of trading.

FWIW Neale was already elite - his 2016 season was one for the ages and since then he'd shared star billing with Fyfe - 1B to Fyfe's 1A. It's just that Lions supporters hadn't really seen it because it was over in the west - out of sight, out of mind.

Yeah, as I said he was in that 7 - 15 range for the best mids in the comp, just feel our football department (and based on his comments, Lachie) felt he had another level to go to and based on this year we got in at the right time as he's definitely elevated himself to be in the top 3 or 5 mids in the comp now. I felt we paid a fair rate for a player as good as he is but if we were paying for him after a year like he's had in 2019 the price would be enormous, and that's if Freo would even agree to let him go. I guess it's best to avoid the term "elite" because that always brings up up arguments on here over what defines elite.

I think we’re well stocked for smalls in there and have other priority areas. Half back run, wingers and of course more mid field depth.

We are well stocked and I definitely think we have other area's that we'd prioritise although considering he's OOC, I don't think AMT would cost a huge amount at the trade table. He'd be an upgrade in that 3rd small forward role over Bundy. I think he'd be deadly in our forward line with Charlie and Linc copping more attention. I don't think it'd hurt to add more potency to our forward line.

Anyway the players I'd love for us to add is Brad Hill on the wing and Zac Williams off the HBF. Not sure who we'll end up with but I think we''ll definitely have another high quality player knocking on our door wanting to play finals footy under Chris Fagan. Wouldn't be surprised if another gun mid requests a trade to us. We'd have to be one of the most attractive teams in the comp right now for players looking for a move.
