So who is the priority? Based on what I've seen on this thread, it would seem that most want Hollands as he is a match-winner. Phillips is a good user and is dual-sided (safe pick) and McDonald is an emerging key forward outperforming seniors at WAFL level. By the sounds of this, I'd like Hollands as we need a player like him to complement to other young midfielders. If not, we pick McDonald and then go hard at Caldwell with Melbourne's 1st.

Hollands seems to be the most gifted of the players not in an academy, however, regardless how optimistic people are, an ACL is a significant risk.

Clubs with the first or second pick very rarely get the best player in the draft, it is not the point of the draft, you get access to better picks because your team sucks more than everyone else and it sucks because you have a shortage of talent so you are getting a higher probability pick to have a higher probability of getting someone with talent. Clubs tend to pick the safest higher probability player with early picks rather than roll the dice with an early pick. The point is you shouldn't be gambling with a very early pick (top 4).

It is a career killer to take a risk with a pick that high and it can damage a club to blow that kind of opportunity. If you want to gamble then you should trade that pick (Crows traded pick 4 last year for pick 6 + GWS 2020 first round pick), you can get real value.

Collingwood was fortunate with Stephenson that they were in a good position to take him, the potential outweighed the risk.

If someone came from the future and told me that Goldstein was 36 years old and still one of the best rucks in the country I would not be surprised, well apart from meeting a time traveller which would be a break from the usual.

I wouldn't claim the man had an "organic" feel for the game, but most young analysts don't these days.

I still respect the effort he makes.

He gets paid for it, do you have the same respect for other journo's?

As for his claim.

He said the same about Lukosious.

Really he should be saying "McDonald is the best prospect since Lukosious, who was also the best prospect since Boyd, who was the best prospect since Riewoldt...."

Most AFL journos are repetitious, inane, attention grabbing dung. They have **** all feel for the game.

Let me put this to you then, would YOU take Tilthorpe ahead of Logan?

McKay and DGB patrolling the backline in 3 years time would be like Gov and Barass for WCE today.

The Snoz would've had a really good close up look at DGB and McDonald, so if he's excited about their prospects it wouldn't surprise me if we took one.. or even both if we could manufacture a pick swap with someone like Freo who need the points.
Mc Donald is stepping up well in the WAFL. He's pushing his draft spot up.

It really seems to me that a lot of years have a once in a generation prophetic talent that is going to be the best since *insert absolute champion*.

Don’t forget Gavin Urquhart

Waussie your man?

Heath Chapman has enjoyed a memorable couple of days – on and off the field.

The hot West Perth draft prospect starred in his side’s massive colts win over Perth at Mineral Resources Park on Saturday, one day after a Zoom meeting with his beloved Western Bulldogs.

Chapman was best-afield as the ladder-leading Falcons remained undefeated with a 78-point thrashing of the Demons, with 28 disposals at 86 per cent efficiency to go with seven marks.

Bulldogs recruiters aren’t the only ones showing interest in Chapman, rated as one of WA’s top draft fancies alongside Perth key forward Logan McDonald and Swan Districts intercept-marking machine Denver Grainger-Barras.

He has spoken with nearly half of the AFL clubs, including Fremantle and West Coast a few weeks back.
Some top WA boys.

Don’t trade out next years first rounder for another this year.
It’s the biggest raffle in years and with our injury management, we can’t rely on that.
Take the two picks in the first round.
Even if the dogs get another first rounder it’ll all be eaten up by juh.
How about we trade with the cats for our Melb pick and a 3rd rounder for their two later 1st Rounders.
Trade brown for two first rounders to either the lions or pies is another option.

I think it depends solely on
Nope.

We have no idea how good that pick might be, for all we know we have another sh*t injury season and finish last and give up a #1 pick for pick 6 or 7 this year.

We are going into a rebuild, not coming out of one like Melbourne.

There's 3-4 players next year that would go at #1 this year. I'd actually potentially look at trading the Melbourne pick if we had to into 2021 if we don't like how the order is falling.

Horne is an absolute future superstar, I'd just about melt the membership if we future traded a potential future #1 pick like him (and he might not even go at #1)
Thanks for replying, but with all due respect what a silly and regid response.
If we have injuries..
If we finish last..
If my auntie was my uncle..
All i suggested was if the club (as other posters have suggested) wished they held an additional high end pick. Then go and get it.

This would then allow us to satisfy multiple current needs with top-end; flair outside, kpd or kpf, and inside mid) then why not be bold and brave and get it done?

This all may be moot as this is all predictated on us finishing 17th..which is no certainty and characterstic of north to do so.
I have no idea as I have no understanding of the quality of the current crop of juniors..

Who's to say that without the year of injuries that we've encountered, the natural progression of our youth, and the tendency for us to "overperform" that we dont climb the ladder into no mans land (12th-9th) or above?

In any case I would hope those in charge dont see it as black and white as you think or state.

Ok.... So who can tell me about the possibilities in the 10-20 range? Let's be realistic, our death riding of the D's will probably see them win the flag.

So like all good scouts, I'd like to be prepared and know who we should be looking at.

Can’t stop watching the Hollands video that giantroo put up...
It gets better each time.
He would immediately become our most talented player. The kid looks like an all time kind of talent.
Also... you don’t get that good from not working bloody hard, that domination in the video was all as a bottom ager, and he looked bigger stronger and more explosive.
Just pick him and let’s enjoy the next 15 years.

He's currently playing senior SANFL football as a 17 year old midfielder. He has size, elite speed and good skills. He's ticks most boxes even at this age. The only other mid in this group like that as an all-round package is probably Campbell, but he has a few question marks on his ability to accumulate, has been played at half forward at times etc.

You can definitely judge class to class based on the strength of the 16 year old carnivals.

All the noise out of 2021 is that the top end is right up there with 2018. Horne is one of the leading contenders for #1 pick at this stage.

It's a shame there was no nationals this year, as he would of been one of the stars as an underage mid.

That acceleration is truely insane. His first few yards are mind blowing then he gets friggin faster!!!

Ive never seen anything like it.

Im in the sell the farm to get that kid next year camp.. if there isn’t one of those yet Im starting it - now!
