I wonder if they wait until next year to trade it once they see where it lands. I suspect if they trade it now, it'll still be valued as a late first round pick, but I think there's a decent chance it's a better pick than that.
If that’s the case, we might trade our 2022 future pick for it if young Ashcroft looks like a potential high pick in 2022.

Are there any other highly rated academy players other than Coleman? I remember vividly when Noble was on the roar deal he mentioned that we've got some interest in a couple academy players. I only ask because 53, 58 and 63 will be plenty to match Coleman. We have 68, 69 from Melbourne too, surely if we weren't going to use them we would've just asked for a future 4th instead.

Points are not the issue, actual available lists spots will be.

I don’t believe we should be drafting anyone else out of our academy except for Coleman.

I’d be genuinely surprised if any of our other academy kids were drafted by another team, and we’ve already added them all to ourU19 academy program for next year.

Maybe we did, and got knocked back.

Yeah probably but it just seems ridiculous to even take 68 and 69 when we 100% won't be using them.
Picks 68 and 69 have combined 108 points on the index. Once all bidding is done these picks have the potential to move in the 50's thus points increase. It provides greater collateral to combine them with our other picks on the night to trade higher or move into next year's draft. These picks are still valuable to us.

Really? That’s interesting. Ambrogio should get on the line.

Yep, Ambrogio must be in the hunt for higher points hopefully. Looking through the current draft order, I'm glad Essendon has only 29 and we'll get our pick before that. They'll bid on Coleman for sure so any chance to get another player before Coleman would be ideal.

Don't think we will be able to do anything with them really. Feel like we just accepted them to make it look like some of our trades were reasonably fair. In reality tho I think attaining them has a waste of time. Hope we can squeeze something out of it.

North bidding on the Pies NGA has possibilities. 25 + loose change for 14

So many teams have third round picks that they won’t be using.

I really can’t see any team trading for picks in the 60’s.

Opposition clubs will know we won’t be using them, and that when it comes to finalising the draft order, and non useable picks are removed, a team like Geelong with late picks will move up the order.

Collingwood is the only club I can see that needs to look for late points at this stage. AF9951E8-83ED-403E-B978-0250396E1155.jpeg 3D5CA585-1251-4AFF-974D-53BD047BE300.jpeg

McInnes is an interesting prospect that's for sure. 193cm inside mid that runs a 2.80 sec 20m sprint, but also finished last in the 2km time trial.

With all their picks around the mark that could be used to bid on McInnes, I wonder if GWS try to leverage their position into a trade involving Collingwood's future first rounder.

Shhh you’re going to mess my master plan as the Collingwood recruiter in a BF phantom draft.

Hard to get too excited about pick 25 when we have guys like Ely Smith, Dev Robertson, Tom Joyce, etc. in the 2s.

I think we have most types covered in the 2s

Lockdown medium - BSmith
Distributors - Hinge and Prior
Line breaking half back - Madden
Key back - Ballenden and Payne
Lockdown - Answerth

Inside bull - ESmith and Matho
Inside/accumulator - Robertson
Dynamic mid - Cockatoo
Kamikaze mid/ speed - Joyce
Ruck- Archie

Forward pressure - TBerry
Forward pressure/ play marker - K Coleman
Medium forward - McFadyen
Key forward/second ruck - Fullerton

Wing or ruck for me.

Maybe rookie one of the academy picks

IMO we should err on the side of generosity with the academy, especially with rookie spots. Nothing will build participation in the academy more than kids seeing their peers getting a crack at an AFL spot.

Can’t find the Age article. Here’s Fox’s.

What has to be remembered is that all Rookie salaries (the actual rookie salary component if they’re paid more) come out of the soft cap.

So do teams prioritise extra players on their list, or coaching, development or medical staff, etc.
