Good question. Other departments don't usually expect to exert influence on selections. Probably won't here either, as if Adel rate him #1 then you have to call his name, as bulldogs might not match.
 
I tend to not want Thilthorpe because:

Recent flag winners tend to get their ruck/forward hybrids cheaply in the draft, or ready-made via trade: McEvoy, Cox, Hale, Otttens, Hawkins, T Lynch, even when Gardiner went to St Kilda. I can't think of a recent flag winner who used a high draft pick on a young 18 year old sky scrapper and it panned out on GF day.

And, tall athletic hybrids (that are expensive to obtain) have also proven prone to injury: Danniher, NicNat, Kruzer,

And I wouldn't trade pick 5 to St Kilda for Marshall (who is a proven performer with a big future). Thilthorpe is maybe as good, maybe a dud.

Don't think a Dr would sign a medical cert if it was just because he didn't want to move. Even lazy/poor GPs would not want their name on a document that is so prominent.

I agree re ruck. His footage shows that he might be a legitimate forward so there's that angle. My knock on him would be that he fades in and out of quarters which might be his fitness. This can probably be fixed, at least as a forward.

I worry that Hollands will be something like Hunter Clark, I wish he had a little more exposed form as an inside mid. But he has been a star consistently in juniors and has performed in big games.

Archie Perkins could arguably be ranked highest if they played this year.


I reckon that whoever the Hawks pick will turn out the best. :)

Hunter Clark was pretty good this year to be fair.

Yeah we haven’t seen proper footage of thilthorpe as a fwd, he has great attributes but can he be a dominant key fwd in the AFL or is he going to be a David hale type of player who is used as a ruck with stints up fwd for a goal and contested marks every now and then, which isn’t the output you want from a top 5 pick. Probably won’t be at our pick anyway but he is a talent for sure.

Mental Health. GP’s will sign anything. It wasn’t binding any club could have drafted him.

Last year he was great , this year he was good. I think he doesn’t really have any similarities to Holland’s Anyway. Holland’s is more skilled, a better goal kicker , better overhead mark.

Maybe some, but they'd be silly to. I wouldn't without referring to a mental health professional or objective evidence, at the very least a high DASS.

GWS would be an ideal target no way they go to the draft with 10,13,15,20 and 26. It's a tough year do you use a high draft pick to get best chance of the cream or take a shotgun and get bolters. What keeps running in my mind is Hugh Goddard a few years back was touted as the number 1 pick in his underage year ended up going pick 19ish* a year later.

Trading pick 4 and landing Reid, Macrae and Bruhn might not be a bad option.

Reading the papers, they think we will go Perkins/Phillips and take some project talls with our later picks.

HC was good, and he showed improvement, and next year he could be a great player. But Hunter Clark will need to have more influence inside the packs, which is no small thing, and which is my concern for Hollands.

Hollands does not have blistering pace on the outside, and he does not have enough demonstrations of his inside abilities. Along with his knee.

I guess it depends whether you want to take a risk for a player with the most upside, or go with a safe bet. For mine, Hollands is not the safest bet of all the gun smalls.

Holland’s makes up for it with his classiness through packs, High footy IQ, ability to kick goals from 55m out on his opposite side. Yeah agreed on the last part, IMO when you have a high pick you want a home run so you should take the most talented player which is Holland’s at our pick if he is there.

I think I may still be scared by Mitch Thorpe v Selwood.

I fear Hollands being an overpriced sports car when I should be thinking/hoping he is a Rolls Royce like Hodge.

He probably thinks Brunh higher than Perkins and Hollands and does not expect Brunh to be picked up until at least first pick of GWS. Everyone is entitled to their opinion.

As had been said, it is that type of year, where a kid at pick 60 might turn out better than pick 10. It is not as if we have not had that in the past, look at picks we took B Hill, Stratton, Puopolo, Siciliy.

Being positive, if HFC do not trade with GWS, then perhaps being alittle in dream land, you hope that we have been monitoring some kids where for some magical reason others have not and pick them up with our late picks.

We do have a number of holes in our list, so the more quality kids coming through next 3+ years, the better. It is not like we only need a FB or small forward. Hence, attractiveness with getting more look in top 30 players. Having said that who ends up being a star could be different to top 30 players we and media know via phantom draft the last few months.
