Yeah nice, a genuine mid
I like Carroll a lot lot more given he has an apprenticeship on the half back flank, left footer, and already had the skills, but then showed his contested inside mid ability this year. O'Driscoll just sounds like a bull mid, which is fine, I just hope he can kick.

Speaking of Dunstan and slightly OT.

I reckon if he gets a shot at the midfield in 2021 he will be one that thrives. Last time he had Steele, Seb, a Jack Steven on the downhill, Sinclair, the occasional Acres, Billings, and underdeveloped Clark and sometimes Gres to name our star studded midfield.

Next year he will have an AA Steele, Jones, Crouch, Hanners, Seb, with Hill and Billings on the wings with targets like Butts and Higgins and Ming forward.

He is a pure inside pig, he can concentrate on that and will be lifted by the tide of quality that has come in since he was last in the guts.

I reckon he could very well surprise a few in a good way.

Honestly don't mind this. Could see it happening. Just needs to be at the bottom of every pack fighting tooth and nail and never kick a football in space ever again in his life.

Well to keep this on topic, we have picked up some potential quality mids in Byrnes and Bytel, specualtion is that we pick up another mid in the first round.

Dunstan is 25? He and Crouch, Steele and Jones could still be around when the the drafted mids start to come through. I like where this is heading for our future.

As for kicking into space, well again we haven't the sharpest deliverers in our mids. But we have a weapon in King. His reach is incredible and if he doesn't mark it he brings it to ground. We have chaos ball merchants from Richmond in Butts and Higgins, and Lonie hovvering about at his feet (if he doesn't recover it from the spill which he can do).

We don't need precision with Max King there. We need it into the forward 50 near abouts Max, so efficiency isn't the absolutely rolled goal imperative that some may suspect.
It will only be less of an issue when Bing turns up. FMD some teams will be having nightmares at that prospect.

I don't really mind either way, clearly Cal and the clubs know more than we do on who are good players. I guess I just want us to go after a genuine mid because I think we have a huge opportunity to improve that area given we still have guys that are getting midfield minutes that really shouldn't be there - namely Ross but Dunstan is also back up. I'd prefer Ross to the back up and Dunstan to be offloaded at the end of next year, which would give way for an emerging talented kid to take that spot in the 22. Not to mention the injury concerns over Hannebery.

carrol is more class with his skills and agility and o’driscoll more bash and crash his foot skills aren’t that great but is good defensively, of the two i’d say carrol has more upside and we’d definitely prefer if he got through. i’d be suprised if we took odriscoll but wouldn’t be disappointed

I think we are way too quick to write some guys off.

I know he is very small but geez Jake Bowey looks super handy. If was 3 inches taller he would be a clear first round pick.
Watched the All Star game and he does almost everything right - he is a very smart footballer with great technical base skills.
Difficult to know where he fits in with his traits becoz he is so small, perhaps a wing.
If he slides to our 2nd pick, I hope we take a chance.

Back in the day if someone kicked it "to " Roo, we were screwed, we needed it close enough for him, but too far for the others.

Dunstan is a classic example.

The other thing that i'm sure goes on is "performance enhancing drugs " in the kids.
I'm pretty sure ( though not positive ) that Junior football drug tests are a rarity, and it would be nice to think the kids are all clean, but we ain't in Kansas Dorothy.
Sometimes a new kid comes into the AFL and they are amazing straight out of the draft. Come in , play terrific senior footy, then they actually go backwards.

The horrible cynical part of me wonders if they had been on the gear, but stopped once they hit AFL and the near certainty of getting caught.

My kid started training with his old footy club this year before the season cancelled. He was under 15s and this year you saw a lot of kids that were looking like men and some still looking like little kids. The natural maturation that take place isn't always the same and some of the kids who were huge as little kids are now back in the pack and lost their edge. Others now have a huge advantage through early puberty.

Once those big kids hit AFL they are in with the biggest and the best so anyone who hasn't got the goods as well as the size get found out.

I really rate him, I wish we had a pick around the late 20s early 30s where I think he'll end up. He looks like one we'll wish Brett had played more games.

Ive always said that.
I’m very interested to see how Dunstan goes this year, I’ve always had a soft spot for him.

Every season the make up of the best 22 changes for a number of reasons including form and injuries. When they get a chance next year Webster, Dunstan are more than capable of being best 22, if Hanners and Jake are fit they will also be locks for playing.

It is basic maths that 28 does not go into 22 and some current favourites will not be playing some weeks, much to the chagrin of some on here. Geary still has a lot of value for mine in what he brings in intensity and makes a lot of the younger guys walk a bit taller on the field.

I love how Luke tries but im just not sure you can carry blokes these days who cant kick , its easy to say Luke dont kick it but we all know thats never going to happen

This is the first year for ages where I haven’t seen any of the prospects play so I’m just backing in our team.

I heard shifter giving Bowey a big wrap based on his skills and pace, his size is a worry but if your good enough as they say.

I haven’t been particularly impressed by any of the highlights packages posted so far, I guess end of first round is just sitting back and hoping someone we really rate is still on the board.

Nothing stopping him growing 3 inches in the next few years either 🤷🏻‍♂️

Having nailed early selections in the form of Jade Gresham, Hunter Clark, Nick Coffield and Max King in recent seasons, the Saints are clearly in a different phase of their list build. Under list manager James Gallagher and powerbroker Simon Lethlean, the Saints have brought in a raft of seasoned players from rival clubs across the past two trade periods, even extending to bargain pick-ups such as Shaun McKernan and James Frawley. As such there aren't too many clear holes on their list any more. More key position depth would be handy given McKernan and Frawley only look like short-term fixes, but the best talls in the draft will be long gone by the time St Kilda enter proceedings.

Medium forward/midfielder Brayden Cook would be a good option if he slid through to the Saints' first selection while there should be a bevy of handy midfielders such as Jack Carroll and Nathan O'Driscoll on offer at the Saints' first selection. As with Richmond and Collingwood, Jackson Callow and Kaine Baldwin loom as two potential options for the Saints if they want another tall forward late in the draft.
