Just read the article on the AFL site re Collingwood.
They are under salary cap pressure to re sign DeGoey, Moore and others.
They have been running 6 rookies including Miocheck (who they are trying to re sign) and if the list sizes reduce it makes their task harder.
2 very talented young forwards I’d be inquiring about are Daicos and Stephenson, with Daicos being another out of contract.
Either would be dangerous long term additions to our forward line.
Nothing ventured ... nothing gained ...

I mentioned both a while back for the same reason.

People told me Daicos would be impossible to acquire due to the name. I didn't agree with this and still don't.

People also told me that Stephenson would command a top 10 pick. I still don't agree with this given the fact he's not rated as a genuine starting 22 player in their team anymore (he's on the fringe/outer), as well has making some errors in judgement off field. May just want a fresh start. Probably be a late first early second gets the job done.

Charlie isn’t kouta

Kouta could go to CHB and make an impact
He could go on the ball and dominate

Charlie can’t do that

He’s a wonderful roaming forward and thats where he should be played. Imagine the space he will make for Harry and co with his movement around the half forward line!

Yet he plays best out of the square .. strange really

Stephenson just doesn’t seem happy atm.
I don’t know that for sure but i do know he can play.
A fresh start with a defined role in a young team on the rise might just appeal.
The time to “buy” may never be better with his stocks a little down atm ...

Agree with you McGov. is disappointing he’s lost the sparkle the
marking and footy IQ are lacking why he’s performance is well below par for what’s expected I do know. Could it have to do with his physical conditioning?Possibly adding Viny or another mature top quality midfielder would increase effective ball distribution/supply.
The midfield is the key that will unlock our woes as with most team once the physical balance is correct in the engine room evety else is buzzing along.
Gethelred was trying to be sarcastic. Saying despite him not playing a game our perception is decreasing irrationally.

Really against Viney or any other inside or slowish mid. We have Cripps Ed Setterfield and Kennedy as backup. If Setters takes another step next year we really have that spot covered and just need speed skill and kicking.

With Kreuzer retiring and TDK looking like the perfect fwd/ruck I think we should go for Preuss. I think Pittonet has had a good season but think Preuss could be much better.

He would need too his stats are at best bog ordinary.
All his stats on AFL app are at best average or under average. Don't see him ever being an A grade midfielder.

Our biggest weakness in our midfield is hitting a target and IMO is where we really need to focus our trading and drafting.
Our Midfield Kicking Efficiency is quite shocking.

The Good (+60%)
  • Newnes - kicking efficiency 64%.
  • Martin - kicking efficiency 62%.
  • Williamson kicking efficiency 70% (why I would play him on the wing).
  • SPS - kicking efficiency 74% (Play him HF).
  • Williams - kicking efficiency 64%.
  • Murphy - kicking efficiency 64%
  • O'Brien kicking efficiency 63%.

The Bad
  • Setterfield - kicking efficiency 51%.
  • Ed - kicking efficiency 48%.
  • Kennedy - kicking efficiency 58%.
  • Walsh - kicking efficiency 55%.
  • Cripps - kicking efficiency 52%.
  • Dow - kicking efficiency 50%.
  • Fisher - kicking efficiency 49%.

Players we have been discussing (some interesting results)
  • Phillips - kicking efficiency 60%.
  • Polec - kicking efficiency 58%.
  • Merrett - kicking efficiency 62%.
  • Wines - kicking efficiency 55%.
  • Saad - kicking efficiency 76%.
  • Kelly - kicking efficiency 59%.
  • Oliver - kicking efficiency 54%.
  • Toranto - kicking efficiency 44%.
  • Crouch - kicking efficiency 48%.
  • Witherden - kicking efficiency 75%.
  • Viney - kicking efficiency 55%.
Other Cheap players to look at
  • Hately - kicking efficiency 66%.
  • O'Halloran - kicking efficiency 66%.
  • Blakley - kicking efficiency 67%.
  • A.Kennedy - kicking efficiency 71%.
  • Laird - kicking efficiency 71%.

I dont think it a too bad idea - Stephenson and Curnow deep and Harry at CHF playing a bit higher. Stephenson has had a good case of second( /3rd?) year blues so would have lowered his price somewhat. Struggling to hold his spot as best 22 at the Pies. Kid has talent in spades and plays both that small lead up forward and crumming forward roles very well when he is on song.

One player I hope we sign up soon is Macreadie. Reckon he's a hell of a talent, is one preseason and no more injuries away from being a competent AFL defender.

Two years out does him no favors but as seen with Docherty and Williamson is that it's no reason he won't make it.

Glad to see someone else rates Macreadie.

I'd be prioritising Williamson first though.

Not sure why he's still out of contract. I personally rate him substantially higher than a bottom 6-8 player on our list. Starting 22 everyday of the week for me.

So I need to ask this:

If Tom Papley is the best small forward in the game as many on here were saying, how come he didn't make the AA Squad of 22?

Liam Ryan was selected over him. That doesn't make sense to me if he's supposedly the best small forward in the game.

Just like Petracca is a better midfielder than Cripps?

Why wasn't Weitering included? Maynard?

Papley was good enough to be in the squad of 40, so therefore in the elite category for his position.

However, the overarching answer to your question is that the AA selectors are ****ing morons.

I watched Ryan closer than I previously had this year. Very talented player. Reminds me of Pendlebury when he's in the middle.

We havent had some mongrel since Robinson. Plus he brings a team first attitude, willing to block effectively, tackle hard, and go the bump with great results.

Its the 1%ers he adds which makes him desirable and compliments our midfield unit.
And the best part, we don't need to give up picks. Besides salary, he is basically a free hit.

Agreed. Needs another year or two to see how he develops

I'd also love to see him retained, but the trimming of list sizes may yet become his enemy.
If we did trim him though, we can pick him up as a rookie, unless someone gets ahead of us.

He's sort of a Rhys O'Keefe for us in some ways. Had the talent and the will, but his body just let him down. Maybe that will change under Russell.

I'd rather keep Macreadie than a speculative pick in the 60s or 70s. I'd also rather delist others before him. We are light on key defenders. He is our reserve as I don't class Marchbank as a genuine key defender. Macreadie looks like he has put on some size. Just needs a crack at it

So you’re saying Charlie is not an impact player. Roaming forward rather a pack mark. Beg to differ

I’m saying that he won’t be able to impact on other parts of the ground

Up forward he’s a weapon. I seen him kick 7 last year, was everywhere! More of that would be handy
