Yep

On form, Levi plays ahead of Harry. Doesn't matter if he's fit.
But if you insist on Harry playing. Newnes out, Gov to a wing.
Charlie replaces Jsos.

I don’t insist in Harry or Charlie playing, it’s how I think the club sees it, if 6 years in to a career your star Forwards picked with high picks are not in the best 22, I see a failure in development or a failure on the players part.

Sending a player who is third tall forward or defender, who averages 10 possessions a game to a wing to accomodate playing another tall, isn’t the answer, this is without having a conversation on where Marchbank fits.

Overall, I don’t think it’s good list management going forward to have high valued assets playing in the 2nds

Haven't seen a lot of Wines recently but 14 possession in a 8 goal win doesn't scream recruit me. Concerned he makes us to slow
Apologies if this has been replied to after this post but wines was hard tagged by redden after a nine disposal first quarter iirc. That hot start coming off a pretty good game the week before paints him in a better way.

Adam Saad OOC with The Dopers this year and apparently him and EFC are a fair way off in negotiations.

Should we try again for him? Certainly would give us a welcome boost of speed, and reckon we could have the luxury of having a Newman or SPS play further up the ground (on the wing etc)

Would certainly give us and Teague a bit more flexibility, esp with rotations etc

whats the go with marchy...where does he fit best ?

Won't be surprised if he stays back up to Jones/Weitering/Plowman. Small chance he takes Plowman's spot at some point but doubt it.

We look better in defence without playing all 4 of them like we used to and having more smaller defenders now which gives us more speed.

Honestly i think the 'Marchy on a wing' is a pipe dream...we've never really seen it, only heard about it. He's a good runner for his size but could he keep up with the best wingmen in the comp like Brad Hil? I think at this point we have quite a lot of players who would be above him in the pecking order for a wing position.

Nice to have but not a priority.

We're in pretty good shape down there with Doc/SPS/Newman/Willo as our smaller defenders. Hell on current form Simmo might go around again.

We'd probably be better off using the currency (money and draft picks to acquire him) on a forward like Papley and/or a gun mid which are for more pressing areas of need. If we fail in these, which would suck, then as a plan B we could get Saad and look to move SPS into the midfield maybe.

Also just wanted to say that Coniglio is seriously spudding it up this year...I know in particular because he's in my Fantasy team. He's been shocking, barely touching it.

Bryce Gibbs was just discussed on FC; Hutchy said there is no way we take him back and add another 30 year old to the club - McClure felt we could sit down with Adelaide and do a similar deal like we did with Betts and that Cripps could use a hand in the midfield. Also said a relistic situation would be the Cows paying 3/4 of his salary.

My opinion: Leaning toward no. 32 next year and even though nothing is confirmed, rumours swirl about personal issues and has declined ever since and around the time he left. How far has he declined? He is probably not going to be a full time mid, can he contribute elsewhere? Not sure...

Heart: Love Gibbs, didn't want him to go and he never really wanted to leave, but think he needed the cash and security. We robbed the Crows which was the only saving grace.

(Crazy) Hypothetical: Is there a world where we say to Adelaide that we will soak his full contract if they upgrade a pick of ours. Say we give them our third and get their second back (is that allowed in the AFL?) like they do in the NBA to a degree. We can afford the coin, would it be of benefit to us, given Adelaide is likely to have a pick around 20 for their 2nd. Would they even do it given they are rebuilding?

Just some thoughts...

There is no place for Gibbs on the list - going forward - Adelaide have a thin midfield he doesn't get a game - I wouldn't touch an older player from Adelaide midfield ..

if Cunningham keeps improving and setterfield likewise things will look very different for us..
Hopefully our salary dump days are over

With Gibbs, it really depends where his head's at. See, when he left he was at his peak as a player in terms of performance and fitness. I've always said that he could go into his mid thirties, on the basis that he is durable and that he requires no super athletic traits to play at AFL level. So, with that being the case - if indeed it is the case - why wouldn't you make the deal for him on the cheap?

Because it would be precisely the same decision he made to go over to Adelaide. It would not be good for him to immediately go back on such a decision any more than it would be good for us to get him in only to delist him a year or two later because his standards have dropped and he doesn't want it like he used to. He chose to leave; it wasn't an Eddie Betts situation, in which a hostile head coach pushed him out. He got lured away with the promises of success and money and family, and when things weren't right he knew he'd made a blue. It's on him to live with it.

I defended him until the day he walked out that door. I'll defend him as a Carlton player until I'm blue in the face. But there are limits to conscionable behaviour. We don't need him down back; we might need him in the midfield, and his kicking would be handy up forward; his value could be in playing in the twos until he's 40.

I'd be interested in him if he's content just to be a part of the club again, but he shouldn't be in the conversation to play ones anymore; not because he's too old, but because he lost that right the moment he elected to leave.

Talk seems to have dried up on list cuts for next year.
Is that off of the radar now, or on the back burner?

Cannot see us going into 2021 with 46 again either way however.

Bob and Andy on SEN last week were saying the word is that the salary cap won’t be cut next year (therefore lists should remain).

I, also, was a huge Gibbs fan and was very disappointed when he left (regardless of return) but you go on to say that his leaving was unconscionable. My understanding of it was that he was well prepared to see out his contract but was actually encouraged to leave. He had just had one of his better seasons with us despite the trade falling through the previous year. I have no doubt he would have been just as dedicated had we not traded when we did.

Having said that I would not be in favour of his return, I think the Gibbs ship has left the port.

A couple of pages ago you described another posters opinion as silly but to say that he lost the right to play ones for us is the epitome of silly. IF he does come back and IF his form warrants it we would be the most unprofessional club in the AFL if we were to deny the right that his form demands. Why would we even consider bringing in a player with that attitude regardless of who that player is?

Does the name Eddie Betts ring a bell with you?

So, in the four weeks to date, we've had 12 or 13 out of 16 better quarters than the opposition, in general play.
That's a high ratio for our game. On those numbers alone, one may come to the conclusion that we've won every game. So what's missing?

Of course we can better every line by getting the best players of that type, but that's just not possible.
We don't have an issue getting the ball forward, but find it hard at times, to maximise those forward entries.

I still see a need for genuine competitive goal-kickers.
CCurnow coming back (should he come back as he went out) won't hurt, but another dangerous forward or two and......could be good.

He is a great intercept mark, plays as a backman on the third tall. Cant see him playing anywhere else. Can also also play on medium forwards given his athleticism.

Yep, agree with this.

He will be competing with Willo and Plowman week to week when fit and a long term option for when Jones declines/gets on or injury strikes to him or Weitering.

Silly? I've never felt so affronted in my life!

:)

I spend so much time being serious on here, ensuring that my arguments are logical rather than emotive, and you pick out the one time I choose to be otherwise. I think that while you're certainly correct in a logical manner, my argument here is not logical, nor is it required to be.

Team cohesion especially for our forwards will go a long way in resolving the inside 50 efficiency. The difference just in the last 2 weeks compared to r1 is massive.

In our best backline, 3rd tall, intercepting.
We move one of Samo, Willo or Simpson up the ground.

Honestly Im of the opinion if everyones fit (unlikely) or at minimum our backline is healthy he doesnt play. Its harsh and yes we spent a decent amount to get him but he just isnt as good as the other players there.

Its a good problem to have. Injuries and suspensions happen so he is a great backup to have.
