What if Freo or the Weagles, comes an ask about fish or sps. What would we ask for, Picks or players.

Hmm, picks if we have a bigger fish to go after. The only player I can see them letting go to trade for a 22 year old midfielder type like SPS or Fisher, that we would also want, is Gaff who has just turned 28. I could see us doing that if SPS or Fisher wanted to go. Gaff is clearly better but 6 years older with less time left in the game. Mind you, Fisher being available and not being selected is lowering his value. Would I do it? Probably yes, even 4 years with Gaff would get us closer to a flag while Cripps is still at his peak.

Fremantle? Give us Cerra and we can haggle about steak knives.

Pfft, as if a couple of flags and winning heaps of games with the ferals is preferable to the honour of putting on the navy blue guernsey with the distinguised white monogram for even a single game. No contest if you ask me.

The SFA coming to this board wasn't good for you at all...

I wouldnt trade sps unless he asked for a trade. I would also be moving him up the ground in the next year or 2. The old Brett ratten development

I was in the SFA for a few years. I'm a hall of famer.

I've always shitposted if that's what you are referring to. :D

But now I'm noticing it amidst the modding and the seriousness.

Hall monitors aren't meant to be allowed to smile.

Sheesh, I've been posting with humour for 20 years and you're just noticing. I'm under the radar.

Most of those papley alternatives you mentioned are doing nothing for their current clubs while papley is a match winner...

That’s kinda the point.
Everyone is aware of Papley’s ability and what it would require to land him.
Those players are all young with potentially big upsides that could be got for a fraction of Papley’s price tag allowing us to spend our chips on Kelly who would complete our midfield ...

Switch to half back might save Polsons career.

Seems to be thriving there.
Admittedly, I haven’t been a fan of Polson, but, I have a nagging doubt about my negative conclusion. Theres just something about a player that never gives up that appeals. I’d like it if he was given another decent go at it as a run with defender in the EC, and Carrots before him, mould.

From memory we have the Northern Knights area. The Northern Knights have been terrible for a long time.
I think players moving to scholarship grammar schools is part of the reason but happy to be corrected.

Nail on the head, the top kids get poached to the top schools and the Knights struggle

It's all about filling gaps.

What is our biggest gap? Small forward, onballer or a ruck.

  1. IF Eddie retires we are in need of a small forward;
  2. We desperately need another A grade mid, but who, and what type? Inside mid v explosive v accumulator v outside mid? And who is available?
  3. We also need another ruck (Kruez is on the way out) as Pitt is a B+ at best and TDK a very young, raw prospect.
The club needs to decide how we best fill these gaps; from within, or by trading for an A grader. How much do we want to pay by way of salary/picks?

So many questions...

My take is that Papley is probably more important to cover for Eddie's loss than anything else. Honey looks a good prospect. Owies is developing week by week BUT neither can walk straight in and consistently perform at 3/4 the level of what Eddie or Papley perform at now.

Whereas our midfield can improve generically from within.
  • Setterfield is improving rapidly.
  • Hoping to see SPS move in to the midfield after honing his defensive skills the last two years.
  • Need Cuningham in the guts more as well.
  • Philp, Kemp, Dow, Stocker, Fish are also 'potential' high level onballers.

For mine our priorities should be Papley and a ruckman...but I don't want to sell the farm for Paps.

Whats wrong with a B+ ruckman? Id rather pittonet for cheap than spend heaps on a grundy type in picks and salary.

how many premiership teams in the last 20 years have a dominant ruck?

I've been thinking for a few years we needed to draft a Ruckman. I actually really liked Callum Coleman-Jones who went to the tigers and is stuck behind a few. Would be nice to steal him :)..

TDK to me is more of a forward/Ruckman to me. I think we missed the boat in drafting a ruck considering how long they take to develop.

That being said plenty of very good sides have had very average Ruckman and won flags.
