I think that’s harsh, he has averaged more rebound 50’s then any of Walsh, Newnes and Murphy this year and wins more ball then all of them in the defensive half.
for me he is a poor mans B Hill yet better contested but behind everywhere else. Walsh will go into the midfield next year and Polec is miles ahead of any wingman in our side.
His type can be extremely important, a lot like B Hill and Smith were pivotal in Hawthorns three peat.
if he is a dickhead then fair enough but on ability he is miles ahead of what we got and if he is going cheap then has to be worth a look at least imo
Brad Hill and Isaac Smith are both terrific defensive runners, and are among the first back. Polec is one of the last there, which is why he is usually - if the ball is intercepted - the player who gets on the end of a rebound 50.

I'd prefer we look elsewhere. Lachie Ash would've been terrific, Alex Witherden would be great, and there are no shortage of rebounding defenders comp wide if a trade is the avenue we choose to follow.

I was never putting down Murph. He is not an accountable footballer, maybe he used to be but he isn’t now. Every side has them. We can carry one or two of these guys especially when we play our best football.

I think you’re underestimating how good Polec is. Not sure how he passes as a teammate but if we think he’d fit in he’d be a damn good player for us. Cost permitting of course.
There is a difference between promoting Polec and promoting Polec by deriding Murphy, which is precisely what you were doing.

Yeh I wouldn’t say it is his strength and is probably why he is out of favour at North but somehow he is still managing to win more ball then our wingman in the back half. The only reason he interests me is because he fits imo a need and could come really cheap. Even someone like B Hill who I love doesn’t intercept the ball as much, rebound 50 as much, tackle as much, produces way less 1% and less pressure acts then Polec does.

Don't get polec, watch him against Geelong in the last QTR north are making a comeback, he's on danger in the centre square provides no body contact and allows danger to stroll out of the middle and hit a team mate for a goal. He plays for himself, not enough team play, chasing pressure acts etc, you are betting off playing O'Brien.
Don't get fiorini, he's a list cloggers.

I would be after an a grade mid,
Parker
Crouch
Wines
Angus Brayshaw

another inside big body young mid
Hately
Caldwell
Constable
Sier

Small fwd
Pap
Murphy (crows)
Petrocelle
Lonie

By the way, who is pumping up Polsen like a cross between Gav wanganeen and Jason Johansson, he will be lucky to be on a list next year anywhere

Trade bait
Curnow if you want an a grade mid
Dow
O'Brien
Sps- although I like him in the centre

Retire
Krueger
Simo
murphy

I see your psychic operation to will Charlie Curnow/Constable trades into existence. Not today, Satan!

Wasn't there talk of Charlie Curnow having stints in the guts when he joined Carlton? We have Cripps and a developing Setterfield as our two premier big bodied inside mids. We also have Stocker and Kemp to develop into that role. How many more do we need before we can be satisfied? Having Charlie a la Kouta play in short bursts as an onballer and a ruckman in TDK getting involved when the ball hits the deck should suffice in my opinion. Lets focus our efforts on finding ourselves a few Craig Bradley types to be on the receiving end of those clearances.

There's always talk amongst us here and also at the club, as to who should be used/trialled here or there, but it most often comes back to the most sensible ideas that ultimately come about; Let players grow into the positions where they're of most value to the club.
In recent years we've spoken about these current players and more, as to who should become midfielders - Docherty, CCurnow, Plowman, JSilvagni, Martin and for all the huff and puff, what's come about? Midfielders have played in the midfield. No surprises here......when you think about it.

The trick for us will be how to employ the array of young premium-selected midfielders into our main team. They can't all play midfield so if we are to have use our resources well, where will the following be of most value for us, going forward?
If we accept that the first-picked mids are currently Cripps, ECurnow, Setterfield and Walsh, where do all these players find a second home?
I've asked this question from the start of the year and nothing has changed once we clock over into '21, although I feel one or two may not be here with us then.

Dow - It really is midfield (including wings) or bust for him.
Stocker - I still see him as a good back-man until real opportunity presents or is manufactured.
O'Brien - It's only a wing and he'll have to put many more credits in the bank and hope Newnes, loses his credits...and then there's others also.
Kemp - I don't know. Easy to say anywhere but that makes for little sense when it comes down to it.
Philp - Again, in the backline for me on the strength of what I've seen of him. Speed, agility, vision.....could make it.
Fisher - Forward line obviously, even though he didn't like the idea of it.
Cuningham - High half-forward/wing?
SPS - Backline but if he isn't performing, what next...and what next if a midfield spot doesn't open up.
Kennedy - I only see a midfield spot possible and that's going to be very hard.

I have noticed that some will come back with finding a home for four of these mids on the interchange bench, but that alone doesn't answer the question; Which roles will they play?

We have a lot to find out and not a lot of time to do so, to be best prepared leading into 2021.

So if list size is cut down to 38, we’re going to need to make minimum 5 changes, to include the (min)3 new draft picks. Add the promoted rookie spots for Gibbons and Cottrell and leaving a spot for an FA, will that mean we need to make 8 list changes?

Lang, Macreadie, Odwyer, Polson, Simpson, Moore, Betts, BSOS

If Simpson and Betts are kept on then I honestly don’t know who else could go

Given we can probably expect list sizes of 38+2 next season, I think we all need to prepare for some pretty radical change on the list.
We'll need to cull 6 just to hit that mark.
From memory all clubs are required to take 3 picks in the ND, so that's another 3 to cull.
Anyone we trade in will have to take an existing player's spot. (unless one of our players is involved in the trade)

Going to be some tough calls made.

There has been talk of only having to take two players this year which would be the path we would go down imo.
Calls on players like Betts and Kreuzer would need to be made.
Do we need all off JSOS, Kennedy and MM on our list if they are going to play forward?
Will a club come after Marchbank? (Geelong or someone would be mad not to)
BSOS, Phillips, Moore, Finbar, Macreadie etc may all be moved on with little chance of more then one biting us on the bum.
Personally I think we could move on a dozen with it being unlikely that more then one or two come back to hurt us at all.
it’ll be tough but very manageable imo.

Rookies:
Goddard, Phillips, and Owies to go.

Main list:
Lang
Betts
Macreadie
O'Dwyer
Kreuzer
Moore
Polson or Simpson

That gives us room to take 3 picks in the ND and elevate Honey onto the main list (which counts as a pick from memory), leaving Cottrell and Gibbons as the rookies.

Or take 2 picks and elevate Honey, and trade in a player?

Makes sense.

My mail on the vaccines (which changes all the time, because it's still early doors) is that we're looking at having them ready to go out around April.

You have information about the "vaccines" that no one else in the whole world has?

Please, Please share with us this fountain of knowledge, You owe it to humanity.

70 years has been spent researching a vaccine for COVID virises to no avail.

Thanking you in advance.;)

Aside from the fact I would not want to recruit a player facing a sexual or indecent charge, there is no way in hell Eddie and the Pies would trade De Goey to us anyway.

There would be a members revolt if they did that.

We should still be all in for Papley, he could be the difference in us finishing top 4 or not next year and beyond.

I do agree Kennedy is in that next bracket of those who 'could go'. Along with BSOS, Newman, and maybe even LOB.

At this stage , I think Paddy Dow needs to be in that conversation.

Not sure if already posted, Stevo who I rate as a journo has just reported on Ch7 that Daniher is likely to stay at Essendon. if true, Sydney is unlikely to release Paps without getting way way overs; if at all.

Probably because it finally dawned on Sydney that he’s cooked.
