The AFL is considering playing as many premiership matches as possible in the first weeks of the season in case the corona virus outbreak forces the competition to shut down.

The league is looking at a range of measures, including having five-day turnarounds between matches. The options were canvassed in talks with club chief executives today.

Key points:
  • The AFL has informed clubs they may introduce a five-day turnaround between matches
  • The league is also considering shortening the length of matches and raising or removing the interchange cap
  • The AFL season is due to begin on Thursday night, with the Richmond versus Carlton match to be played behind closed doors at the MCG

Just play one round then into knockout finals.

Now i have heard it all. So you think that only federal government can make decisions in the interest of its people..strike a light
Honestly, you don't know what you're talking about, if you don't think that the right process is one set by the Federal government that is consistent across borders.

Every state government has been waiting for that, and the lack of clear leadership (offering "advice", so they have no liability to business impact or legal action) is an issue.

Perhaps he's had to be respectful, and there will be clearer actions after the COaG heads meet again tomorrow.

Luckily, most state health departments have been pretty good, and many have been absolutely excellent at springing into action with some pretty robust plans.

Bloody hell all they are interested in is the money.... Anyway to make sure they can stay on their high salaries I suppose.

Yep, just about the last person you'd go to on football matters...clueless is being kind. Bloody expert on play station trading and drafting though I hear.
Settle down, Bicks. No one criticises you when you post the same five things over and over again in draft threads about your Ballarat boys.

I know it's a sore spot for you far right nuffies to have the incompetence of your leader pointed out, but it's too obvious for anyone to ignore

I don't think the Players or the Players Association will allow the 5 day turnarounds. The AFL really is more about the money than fan engagement.

They should just delay the start of the season until it is safe for fans to attend. If it is too late in the year for that, then they could organise a Festival of Football, but instead of Vics vs Allstars, they could have State versus State. For example Crows and Power players against West Coast and Fremantle etc in a Knock out series.

West Coast with Freo would beat the pants off anything Adelaide with Port could come up with

Just do carona vs non carona, everyone would have a side.

How bad would you have to be at your job to lose to ScoMo though.

It will be interesting to see the fee kick counts and compare them to previous years to see if the home crowd has an effect on the umpires.
Set shot accuracy will also be interesting without the crowd noise and perceive pressure.

Did he though? I thought he vacated the role and didn’t run. Bishop and then Dutton lost to him though.
So did Shorten who Kristof reckons a top bloke who he’d like to have a beer with, that tells you all you need to know about the “centrist”

I don't think this is the gotcha you think it is, him liking Shorten isn't incompatible with being politically centrist.
