AFL will likely just run a 'lottery' and surprise, surprise, Gold Coast get pick 1! Followed by GWS, Melbourne, Carlton, Essendon, Bulldogs, North Melbourne, Collingwood, Sydney, more teams, then .........................................Adelaide. Oh but we put a priority pick in place for Gold Coast just before Adelaide's first pick as well. Congrats on pick 20 Adelaide!
Yep, that's what I would be afraid of  ... that a lottery would likely rob us. Maybe they would use last season's positions for the draft if it came to it.

Another worry is what implications on the draft if cov-19 wrecks the AFL season this year.

In a rare year where we're tracking to finish low and be entitled to good draft picks, it would be cr@p if we're denied that if not enough rounds get played to determine the premiership order.

Sanity would prevail if the 2020 season is a writeoff.

Draft positions would be based on the 2019 final standings.

I will still go to AO if they try and lock us out. Footy is a release for me from everyday life. We as adults should be able to decide for ourselves if we want to go. If you are sick use your head and stay home. Then the healthy ones can go watch the footy
The critical problem we face is 2 fold:

1. obviously highly infectious;and
2. You can have this thing for 5-7 days with zero symptoms, but be contagious.

So Italy is thinking ... meh we’ve got a few cases no biggy. All the while it’s spreading, people have it but they don’t Know it yet and eventually there’s exponential growth in cases.

So you may feel fine and healthy so sure go to the footy - but if you do have it you’ll likely infect dozens of others

We should be doing what Denmark is doing - barely any cases there but they are locking down now for 14 days.

My understanding is that the Govt is hoping to time the lock down around Easter time/School holidays when a larger proportion of the work force would have already planned on taking leave.

We should have closed the borders late jan or early feb.

Its funny you say that, I thought this exact thing all those weeks ago.

You have to wonder WTF were Govt Officials thinking in not implementing a travel ban back then when they were in a position to make this decision.

Way too late if true.

NBA are about to shut out fans - NCAA already have

Definitely. In fact as I mentioned earlier, travel bans should have been enforced weeks ago for starters.

A shutdown in Australia should take effect almost within the week if not earlier. But this is Australia, we will sit back.

Italy went from 3 cases to almost 10,000 in the space of 3 weeks.

Credit needs to be given to the Italians for reporting, I wonder how many countries where the Coronavirus is prevalent but not being reported.

Just imagine if there is a coronavirus outbreak in major densely populated cities in Asia, the fallout is unimaginable.

Its too late now. The genie is out the bottle. Prepare for a lock down. Most of us will be getting sick.
BTW. You better make sure you got toilet paper.
Most of us get sick with cold or flu each year anyway.

For a healthy enough person under the age of 70 you'll get sick, but you're not going to be in any real danger.

I'll stop short of calling it overblown, it's clearly not, but the panic levels are ridiculous. The whole toilet paper deal just goes to show how stupid our population is.

just look at America - like him or hate him Trump was quick to institute a travel ban from China back in late January from memory and has been slandered by the democrats and their ilk as a racist for doing so. There is a political price that comes with acting and it is the idiots that would rather look politically correct that are front and centre of that effort on social media and elsewhere and we the people come a distant second

Countries need to take a stronger stand against China and ban visas for all Chinese citizens. Hopefully the message may finally get across that they need to change their attitudes towards wet markets.

I won't derail this thread further but take a look at China's threat to withhold pharmaceuticals from America. This is the problem in allowing China to purchase entire industries - critical industries as it can leave us wide open should they choose to play hardball

This is a common line being put out from there which is extremely uninformed and ignorant. Trump has been running with this stupid line as he is more concerned with being re-elected than peoples health.
The following article shows the differences between the flu and covid 19.
The major reason for concern with covid 19 is that it is up to potentially 3 times more infectious than the flu and potentially has a 30 times higher death rate. The major concern with covid 19 is that many people dont even realise they have it and seems to be transmissible without symptoms or before symptoms develop as its incubation period is around 5 days. We also don't have a vaccine for it and dont know if it will mutate into another worse virus. The other concern is that the world's experts know nothing about it and have never seen it before.
The critical factor is that we must contain it as best as possible otherwise our hospital system will be completely overwhelmed and many more elderly and potentially non elderly people will perish.

If you want to inform yourself have a look at 60 minutes australia last Sunday with the world's leading expert for infectious diseases Dr Gabriel Leung. He summed up why this is not the common flu and the reason why Governments are taking this very seriously.

Influenza kills more people than the coronavirus so everyone is overreacting right Wrong and heres why - MarketWatch
Just have to look at the raw statistics to debunk the "flu killed x number yesterday, this is a media beat up".

126k cases, 4.6k deaths.

The flu has a far lower mortality rate.

Plus the lack of a vaccine.

Yes I have seen this been raised before. My understanding is that the US has learnt from the disaster when Hurricane Maria hit Puerto Rico where the US gets almost all their IV saline drips from.

I still think the world needs to take a united stance against wet markets and place more pressure and heat on China.

You can't report if you don't test people.

Italy has done over 60,000 tests, for a population of around 60M - 1,000 tests per million.
The USA has done 8554 tests, for a population of 330M - around 26 tests per million.

Meanwhile Trump is on twitter bemoaning Coronona virus being politicised by the Democrats. Projection of the highest order.

maybe you should be watching his speech right now - absolutely unprecedented measures to not only try and stop the spread but to help those in america financially affected by the global pandemic. Does not sound like a president sitting on his hands to me

Am I alone here in thinking that coronvirus is actually the best chance this club has of avoiding the wooden spoon this year? It would be such a tragedy if we were the first SA club to win one (especially considering what a mess the Powa have been at various times over their 23 year history)

No thanks, I wouldn't degrade myself by watching his speeches.

How does this refute what I was saying anyway? He's out there complaining about corona virus being politicised while his own government tries to cover it up with woefully inadequate testing. He's a hypocrit who only knows how to project. Whenever he accuses his opposition of anything, you can bet Trump is doing the same shit on an industrial scale. It's all out of the Roy Cohn playbook which is basically the bible to Trump.
