Seems easier and lower risk to just say we don't need AFL ambassadors anymore -> I mean, i don't even know who they actually are, meaning they do very little for the endorsement of the game.

Particularly when according to Gil, "The highest-paid ambassadors – three of the top four, I think – are with Melbourne clubs."

Just seems like more snouts in the trough again

Surely in a cash poor environment, you'd do both. Both are very easy to implement, sure, ambassadors is a strike of the pen and the potentially dealing with a breach of contract claim, but definitely something you'd look hard at. Collecting $300k from a couple of entry points at AFLW games would take no more than a 1 hour meeting with a subcontractor who would be highly experienced in delivering that service.

I bet Brad Crouch wishes he re signed in Feb.

I expect that the players will hold the AFL to the existing CBA. Collective negotiations will still be based upon the full salary cap and whatever haircut is agreed to will be against those amounts. Unpicking individual salaries against differing salary cap levels will be too difficult a task. It doesn't work without uniformity and the easiest way is that nothing changes except to the point that the entire playing group accept a reduction against their full contracts.

Maybe you're right.

I wonder if charging for entry was on the cards for AFLW anyway. If they charge $10 for adults and kids under 15 free, they probably lose 75% of that revenue. I think it would be a step backwards and they might lose some market share to WBBL if they charge kids. I think the AFLW brings in more revenue from sponsorship than it could for entry fees in the next 5 years.

I'm waiting for a "AFL Sustainability Supplement Levy" to be introduced on every fan transaction from next year to pay off their debt

I think most AFLW fans would be willing to pay an entrance fee - and yeah keep kids free because I know there was definitely a subset of new footy fans who took their kids to the women's matches because it was accessible financially to them in a way the men's league wasn't

I am only worried that this virus may potentially kill the women's league entirely ~ They will kill the AFLW before letting any of the clubs go broke

I cant see them letting the womens game go, but I think its inevitable we will have to pay a small price to watch.

I can’t see it. The AFLW isn’t about the summer league, it’s about the explosion of participation at the lower levels. Now is the time to double down on it seeing as the AFL is the most financially secure of all the major sports in this country.

Anyone else concerned that only 4 clubs would survive a no football season 'West Coast, Collingwood, Richmond and Hawthorn' but the next bracket of survival is if we resumed in August is the Bombers, Bulldogs and they said maybe us.... are we really in that bad of a position?

Not that many businesses would survive a year without income. The fact they think we would (and sounds like they didn't have good knowledge of us) is probably a real positive.

How are the Bulldogs surviving but not a club like Carlton while we're only a "maybe"?

Sounds like guesswork

They? Wasnt it a Caroline Wilson article?

I think its guesswork
I think its bad guesswork if Hawthorn - who generate a lot , and I mean a lot of revenue from pokies is somehow safe

As noted any business will struggle without income. Yes some will be better placed but the rest will be given a lifeline

Its a piece of journalism designed to fill space in newspapers and online.

If I had a tin foil hat and I do have a spare one its a message to the fans to not ask for memberships back

Sounds like a load of crap aimed at getting fans to stop asking for refunds.

Don't Carlton have massive financial issues and mountains of debt?

I heard they were one of the club's at most risk, along with Geelong and St Kilda.

I think Geelong will be fine

While I think they have a stadium debt they would be classed as a regional support centre and would be able to get state government assistance along with AFL

Probably true, but they're definitely going to need serious help from the AFL to get through their cash flow issues.

Haha...Tex has made it patently clear he didlikes Kornes with a passion....
That was my first thought. It was mentioned in the article Kane played on him later in his career and was towelled up. I can’t Kane was ever sent to Tex to tag him
