I reckon Jammo did one in his last game (from memory it was also the last game blight coached at FP)

pretty sure Bazz and Pilko on 5AA were running a comp to try to get a Port or Crows player to do one in a game

in 98 they had one where all season they tried to get a Crows or Port player to do a summersault as a celebration after a goal - They gave it to Vardy for his goal in the GF where he's tackled and he kinda rolls over afterwards even though they were clutching with that one

It was in 99 the game where we sent off blight, liptak and I think jammo, someone did one streaming through the center running towards the lake end.

just watched the highlights on the AFL site with their 'throwback' games and Fremantle v Adelaide 2003 (Ben Rutten debut 3 goals 3 kicks)

Anyway Freo win by a point and in the last minute and a half Crows absolutely reamed by the umps. Burton pushed in the back 50 out and then with 3 or more ball ups the ump doesn't blow time off

good to know some things stay the same in this crazy world

I'll tell you else were pretty good too in their heydey , both wingmen Malcolm Whitford [Roosters/Panthers] and Bryan Ploenges [Panthers], still reckon the droppy and stab pass are the most accurate kick if the players are in the clear.

Lindsay Head was a great exponent of the stab pass.

definitely a romantic aspect to the game that has long gone

do you reckon there would even be an AFL player able to kick a drop kick goal from 45 out?
I'd back Brodie Smith in...not Talia though...

Rafael Ramos: Who would be the one player most likely to do a 'drop kick' in our team?
Brodie Smith: Talia did one a couple of years ago, when he finds himself close to goal he gets really nervous.

Scroll to the 2.07.00 minute mark and watch the Port faithful leave in droves with 12 minutes to go. Better still, go back a few minutes prior to watch some Bagshaw and Sturt brilliance.
They were actually leaving minutes before this but that camera shot of the car park is glorious.

WHAT?!! Port supporters have never left early! This is fake news.

I have been keeping an eye on the list of the best Port Adelaide players of all time. No way Robbie Gray is classed as a modern day great. He has played some great moments in games including against us but no way he should be rating ahead of some of those names below him. He only averages about a goal a game and has spent a fair bit of his career as a forward.

So what is the word on the street for when we might see a reboot to the season?

Korean baseball is all well and good, but I am ready for some footy.

This country is still a mess and months away from sports

Former AFL player and coach Dean Laidley has been granted bail and will be released on Monday afternoon before being taken to a residential rehabilitation facility.
The ex-West Coast Eagles and North Melbourne player has been behind bars since May 2, when he was arrested over accusations he had been stalking a woman. Former teammates, coaches and club doctors have lined up with letters of reference for the 53-year-old, who is battling longstanding mental health issues.
Laidley is accused of stalking a woman, with whom he’s in a financial dispute over a property.
He phoned her 43 times on May 2, police told Melbourne Magistrates Court on Monday.
It’s also alleged he contacted her body corporate asking for CCTV footage, which prosecutors argue was to stalk her.
Laidley’s barrister, Phil Dunn QC, said his client was fighting allegations he had been involved in aggressive confrontations with the woman at the apartment complex and suggested CCTV footage could be used as evidence that she was not telling the truth about their interactions.
He asked that Laidley be released into the care of a 24-hour residential rehabilitation clinic where he’ll receive treatment for longstanding issues including gender dysphoria and substance abuse.
“He’s not a bad man. He needs help and he’s prepared to accept this help,” Mr Dunn said.
Former AFL coaches Mark Williams, Guy McKenna and Denis Pagan wrote references for Laidley, as did his former North Melbourne teammates Brent Harvey and Wayne Schwass and ex-club president James Brayshaw.

Just a minor point in history but in the 2nd part of the Sacked! podcast Brendan Goddard said Jack Gunston toured St Kilda 'to check the place out' - might have been off season but he hadnt picked Hawks

Didn't they have a competition for a drop kick and Vardy won for an accidental one in the pre lim?

I thought Jamo won the dropkick when he did it in his last game

And Vardy won the summersault in the 98 GF after being knocked down / tackled

That's how I remember - could be wrong

You're probably right. I remember Vardy came on the radio and argued his point.

My Dad's favourite players as he is a Sturt supporter.
My dad rest his soul now lined up a few years running against sturt in the preseason in the 60's playing for hyde park then glenunga in the A1's. They did them as a kind of warm up game he said. He was 6.3 tall himself and twice had state full back bruce jarrett as his opponent and said jarret was a big big man that made him look little. Told me some good tales from those games. Some absolute superstars of their era in those 60's sturt sides
