Draft Review 2020 - Revisit the 2020 AFL Draft

Just enjoy the draft bonanza the AFL give you.

We all know why, so just enjoy the leg up.

Don’t try and pretend you don’t know it’s a leg up or bring other things into it, we all know why.

It was pure luck the Swans got 2 players in the top 6 this year. Had Gold Coast won in the last round then Sydney would have only gotten one of Campbell or McDonald, maybe neither.

True. Was hoping your blokes would trade ahead of them and bid on Campbell. Oh well.
The AFL would have sent an extremely worded “please explain” they really frown apron anyone interfering with the leg up that Sydney get.

I just don’t get why Sydney supporters pretend it’s not real, it’s cool we all know why the AFL do it.

IF north had any balls they would have bid on Campbell before we did.

Or maybe North rated Phillips over Campbell.

Maybe they did but they still would have got Phillips, because Sydney would have matched.

No guarantee about that. If Sydney were desperate for an inside mid (and we are) Phillips would have been a great get. Or with McDonald still on the board would we have prioritised a key forward. There was no guarantee at all Sydney would have matched a bid if it came at pick 3.

Well I guess it just turned out fantastic for the Swans then didn’t it. ;)

Umm enjoy the grand final at your home ground for 40 years.

Enjoy 40% less travel.

please spare me the “non VFL teams get benefits” garbage!!

VIC teams are the most advantaged and no one ever call them on this BS
Yup. Vic clubs get benefits you mentioned and the swans get draft benefits.

No real need for anyone to get upset about this.

You ain’t getting Dunkley

You burnt the Dunkley family and Dad is mighty pissed off, not only could you not follow through on the promise to Josh you f...Ed Kyle over as well.

Dunkley may well be traded next year but it won’t be to the bombers

interesting in terms of Josh, Andrew told Xavier and Adrian a very different story - fact. The Dunkleys’ were very complementary of Essendon - fact. Dunkley’s manager also said to essendon the offer they put forward was very strong.

Will be fascinating to see how it all plays out next year.

I think you have the wrong Andrew but we will see

Not from I know, admittedly I haven’t heard about Kyle, but in terms of Josh, both Andrew and Josh were absolutely furious with the bulldogs - this I know is fact.
The reality is for the Dunkleys it’s bad luck, Josh is contracted.
Yes and they are now furious at the Bombers but who cares anyway. Dunkley needs to concentrate on his footy and next time he has a contract in front of him he might want to check basic things like length not just look at the $ signs

Furious with the Dogs for valuing Josh as a player and holding him to the contract he agreed upon? Either the Dunkley’s as a collective have a screw loose or you’re full of it. They have no one to be mad at besides Essendon, who convinced him to ask for a trade while contracted and then refused to get the deal done.

Well Josh Dunkley himself said Dogs made it difficult for Essendon. This is a direct quote from him:
“But with all respect, the Bulldogs really held onto me and made it a challenge for Essendon to get me." Pointing towards Dogs as the reason rather than Essendon.

It checks out with the rumours about Dogs shifting goalposts a bit during negotiations, which obviously they can do as he is contracted. His manager also believes Essendon offered a fair deal and Dodoro thanked his father for helping throughout the negotiations.

The Dunkleys would know the intricacies of the negotiations more than what we would know so we can't really know how they feel about it without hearing from them publicly. The only thing I can see a problem with is perhaps Kyle Dunkley if we did make the promise to pick him up and we don't do that by the end of the SSP period. But the SSP period doesn't even open until the 6th of January and closes 9th of March, so there's plenty of time.

We also don't know if that was something Essendon actually promised because no one from Essendon ever confirmed that, nor did anyone from the Dunkley camp.

We'll know if more information comes out of it.

Exactly. It was go hard at this draft and then get Daicos and maybe Dib next year, or take a few selections this year and still be out of the bulk of next years draft regardless.
Could also have traded next years picks in 2022 but can underss as fans wanting to get people into the club now.

Lol of course they made it difficult. He’s a contracted player they wanted to keep. And they said straight up that they wouldn’t take less than 2 firsts, which Essendon never offered according to reports. Whether his manager feels Essendon offered a fair deal is irrelevant. If you try to poach a contracted player you’re paying overs, you’re not going to get a fair deal. Not sure why that’s hard to understand.

Hi all,
This isn't a Josh Dunkley thread 🤗, let's keep discussion to the draft cheers
