An interesting article on AFL.com right now regarding fastest players in games.

I know to speed isn't reflective of acceleration, although: (1) It makes it pretty obvious we lack elite speed; and, (2) Aidan Corr clocked faster than any of our players in 2020.

Our top five -
Marley Williams, 34.0km/h v Hawthorn, round 4
Jamie Macmillan, 33.1km/h v North Melbourne, round 1
Tarryn Thomas, 32.9km/h v Hawthorn, round 4
Cameron Zurhaar, 32.8km/h v St Kilda, round 1
Shaun Atley, 32.8km/h v Fremantle, round 17

tbh none of us should be talking like Corr is definitely coming

I think topping up on fringe players is the last thing we would want to do.

Topping up on players that are B-graders at best bring back the issues that we had with most of the 11 blokes we delisted.

We need to have a proper assessment of players we can trade, and look to avoid doing what the previous regime did time and time again to patch the cracks.
A proper assessment of what is available trade and draft-wise would go a very long way into avoiding the inconsistent performances that repeatedly popped up when the going got tough for those B/C graders to step up.

We made the most of what we had previously and basically all it did was give us a game of snakes and ladders.

We still have a very good core group of players that can lead us forward, we just need to place more stars around them (and retain our current stars) and the rest will fall into place.

When a young player looks better than a seasoned C grader, that's when you know you can't make the same mistake again. Brady wants to avoid that sort of occurrence because it's frankly embarrassing.

Clearly, the most sensible post in this entire thread series.

Whatever happened to the rumour that JUH wasn’t happy with the Bulldogs?
It was actually a newspaper story, with a family member staying that the family were more than unhappy with the bulldogs and that he did not want to be picked up by the club. Gone quiet now though

It would be nice Damo would pick up these stories and undermine other clubs for a change.

Brady knows just how bad it can get when a team can't kick, handball and link up consistently and cohesively. He played in a side that was largely mediocre and carried as much as he could.

He wants North to get a premiership. Not repeat what he went through in his playing career.

Most of the sensible people can see that, those in the know stay quite, those who are ignorant often have the loudest voices.

You do need B graders to fill out the list and play roles but you almost don't want to think about them until you have that core of A graders to fill around. If it was a choice this year between adding a known quantity B grader or taking a speculative kid at pick 65 in the draft, I would take the speculative draft pick.

A fellow North supporting mate of mine text this trade suggestion to me today and as much as I hate the idea of trading our future 1st round pick I actually don’t hate it & seems reasonable on the surface .

OUT - NM 2021 1st rd pick + Dumont
IN - ADE Pick 1 2020 + ADE 3rd rd pick 2021

OUT - NM Pick 9 2020 + Polec
IN - Haw Pick 4 2020 .

OUT - 2021 1st rd pick , 2020 pick9 , Dumont & Polec .

IN - Pick 1 & 4 2020.

obviously any trades for Brown and or Higgins are a totally seperate discussion.

Pick 1 . McDonald
Pick 2 . Hollands
Pick 4 . Phillips

He was also of the opinion of making no deals with Syd or Dogs and was keen to make them pay full price for their academy kids .

interested on hearing the thoughts of the Draft experts on here is this a deal they would do considering the apparent talent in next years draft ?!?

North would do it.
I’m pretty sure Crows and Hawks wouldn’t.

I agree about having quality A graders mixed with B-graders. Oh, by the way, I wouldn't mind B-graders. But when they are B-graders at best then it becomes an issue. We won't see that level of performance consistently and ultimately it will hurt us more in the long run.

We need players that can raise their ceiling or have a higher ceiling than the ones we delisted, not reach what the delisted could do currently.

Genuine consistent B-graders or better are mandatory from here on in.

With list sizes becoming shorter, there's less room for players that will look good for a few games but slide off into C-grade territory.

Ahern is a prime example.

And ultimately, when you bring these young kids through looking for the A graders to build around you are going to find your share of B graders and C graders in the process. I think Marley Williams was a classic example of the type of recruitment you are talking about. Good enough to get in the team but a B-/C+ player at best.

We'll have 3 top 10 picks accross the next two drafts. Can't remember the last time that happened. Has that ever happened?

We have 2 this year. Potentially one next year.

To paraphrase you "we keep our mature talent and 'fill our boots' with three Top 10s over two drafts. Then strike with a vengeance so they will never use our name with such contempt ever again."

Hate to break it to you but its going to take more than 2 or 3 Top 10 picks over two drafts to get us to the top of the mountain again. You have to account for the inevitable busts. We're going to likely need 10 Top 25 picks over three drafts and sadly some favourites will need to leave for that to occur.

The strategy the club is taking, while painful for some, is the correct one.

Adelaide are not giving up pick 1 for Dumont & an unknown draft pick...
