So did anyone that watched the GWS game today see anything that particularly excited them about Hately? Must profess I didn't see a whole lot and I'm amazed he's getting a game ahead of Jye Caldwell. I'm still not convinced anything more than a mid second round pick is his value.
Mentioned this in the draft pick thread, from the eye test he wasn't great, looked rushed and missed kicks that seemed out of character for him. But statistically he put together an OK game (15 touches, 320m gained, 5 score involvements).

At the end of the day I think it was a C+ to B- kinda game from him depending on how your look at it. The kind that won't see him dropped, but also won't be forcing his case to play more midfield minutes.

Going to be interesting to see what we can do if Edwards is expected to go somewhere between 10-20.

How do we move pick 20 in ahead of a bid on him? Perhaps someone like the Saints might be interested in moving on pick 13,57,73 for 20,26
TBH, In the most compromised draft in AFL history, I doubt moving draft picks around will be a problem.

There will likely be teams trying to move around all over the place on draft night to execute their plans.

Not even the most compromised draft in the last decade...

Really? Not according to this article.

What year was there more then 26 players tied to clubs including the potential #1 pick?
2010 & 2011 - the GC & GWS draft years.

GC had 6 of the top-10 picks, and 8 of the top-13.
GWS had 8 of the top-10 picks, and 11 of the top-14.

That's how you have a compromised draft!

GWS and GC formation drafts?

Especially as they ripped out the top end of the draft whereas a lot of those NGA picks will fall in the more speculative, and irrelevant parts of the draft.

This is nowhere near as bad as that.

We're going to finish last, so it's time to bring out the threat of the PSD and use it against clubs that have ****ed us over that way.

Need to target Gold Coast big time, someone like Will Brodie (if he was out of contract). Offer a fourth round pick or say we'll see you in the PSD

Other targets maybe someone like Brandan Parfitt to **** over Geelong

To be honest I hadn't considered the PSD until now.

Yeah i'd be all for squeezing that leverage to potentially nab a few talent upgrades.

The comments on this board Re Hately are mind boggling. He's a neat, inside Mid who will play a lot of senior footy over the next 10 years. BUT he's a run of the mill 3rd type Mid. Not someone you can build a Premiership team around, so why give a up first round pick? The Crows have a few 2nd-3rd mid types (Crouches, Sloanes, and then younger mids such as Schoenberg, Jones and McHenry who will all be 2nd or 3rd tier mids). The Crows need an elite Tier 1 Mid which you haven't had since Danger left. You get that from the pointy end of the draft (or via free agency if you in the window), which you should have over the next few years. You don't trade out first round picks at this stage of a list build for someone just because they are from SA.

If the SPP rumour is true, it would be hilarious to get him for nothing. Although the thought of him in a crows jumper gave me a mild stroke.

It’s a sad day when a Blues fan has better insight into our own club than we do (no offence). Finally some sense.

I think you really underestimate how much we need tier 2 and 3 mids at the moment. Also how much we need players with a couple of preseason under their belt.

Brad is likely out the door this season (we won't fight it if there is a sniff of tier-one compo), Matt is all at sea (and really, we're getting to the point we should be moving on seeing he has been atrocious this season) and Sloane is borderline finished at this point of time. Equally, Jones/McHenry/Schoenberg are all starting to establish themselves, and whilst I'm optimistic Jones has enough to his game to get to a top tier (or at least, in the twilight zone between the two tiers) they're all young and in need of support.

Pretty much our midfield needs to be rebuilt from the ground up. If it costs a 2nd, or even a mid first to get some support to increase the likelihood of us getting through this period unscathed (and offering someone who could fit into good role player long term), it's worthwhile.

Too early to say.
We could end up with a swathe of picks if Matt, Brad, Laird and Rat would which is highly possible.

Laird and Pick 20 for Pick 8
M.Crouch and future second for Pick 11.

In such a scenario we could be left with picks 1, 2, 8, 11, 12, 25.
1 Thilthorpe
2 Phillips
8 Hollands
11 Poulter
12 Baldwin
25 Edwards
35 Newchurch
50 Borlase

Any interest in Allir Allir ??

Matt Crouch to bolster an aging Sydney inside brigade ??

As usual take with a heavy pinch of salt from Rowey

Heck, I wouldn't even worry about the salt on that one. He just saying "oh Adelaide can offer enough money to lure him". That's probably a true statement, all things considering.

His next contract will be a BIG one, and will probably sitting on his managers desk well before his current contract finishes!

We may as well be the one offering it.

EDIT: Having said that this is quite clearly clickbait at its finest

Did anyone suffer through the Magpies Hawks game long enough to see how Will Day got on in his debut? I liked the look of him before lasts years draft and he could be someone to potentially lure home in a few years time.

One at a time.

Focus on drafts in 2020 and 2021 and then determine list needs such as Rankine, Day etc and whether giving away first rounders is best for the list build.

Correct. We did a lot of Shaw, even putting him onto the rookie list so he would get the benefits of the new CBA the AFLPA were negotiating.

And then, he came back and went the legal route. Nice
I think you need to go the legal route in order to access insurance payouts.

I think the Bulldogs, Swans and Collingwood may all be looking to trade their first for extra points, depending where they finish. All three have first round NGAs.
