Wont it be pick 4 because Gold Coast get a priority pick?

Think the first round should be a lottery, why should Fold Coast and Melbourne get 1 and 2 again.

Top 8 lottery for 9 to 18. Bottom 8 a lottery for 1 to 9.
You mean pick 6 because of the PP yeah Joff??

I'm too lazy to check, but IIRC GC's PP this year is a start of 2nd round, and possibly a mid 1st round now that l think of it.
Either way it won't effect us, but the NGA/FS stuff will definitely cost us a place or two.

Thing is, more clubs will be scrambling for high picks again like GWS and Freo did last year.
Obviously ours is reserved for Bing atm, but otherwise its a sellers market and Libba has shown he can do good work with later picks.

A cancelled season will create huge volatility in player movement. List strategies will be delayed or brought forward, players will have too much time to think and will retire early (Gears?) or get itchy feet and want to move.
With volatility comes opportunity so it's a great time to have a surplus top 5/6 pick should it come to pass.

I doubt they'd go for a lottery system either, fair or not.
Those first 12-13 picks would be going exactly where the AFL would like to see them go, but if they did a lottery on draft night it might improve the yawn fest..

I wonder if we look at another ruck?

If the season is shut down would it be worth playing Ryder in the seniors for just one season? Could end some careers...

What about Caldwell?

Swapping future 1st as Giants don’t have a first this year.
Nar that's paying too much. A pick 20-25 feels right to me.

We just need him to nominate us and ask for a trade. With the list squeeze on they won't stand in his way.
I'd be looking at the Swans for a future 1st swap. Take their 2nd and send it to GWS, thanks for coming. .

That’s good.
What was your take from the phantom draft?
I liked that there was still some recognized talent available in the 3rd round. I'd think that there will be some good opportunity to get a good slider since intake numbers will be well down and 3rd/4th round picks will hold little actual value outside of points for academy selections..

For the overall draft, it went really smoothly. The draft talent at the top is not as good as it has been for the last years, bar JUH. But I think as you have picked up the draft talent runs deeper.

I think that a successful offseason includes ethier Caldwell/ Trew and DGB, the other that I rate highly are Sam Berry and Breaden Campbell, (tied to Sydney). Outside of the first round I rate Bailey Laurie, Errol Gulden, (tied to Sydney), Josh Clarke, and Saxon Crozier.

On the trade front, even though you didn’t ask, (but it does impact the draft front), I think we should throw 1.5M at the Pies and grab De Goey for free, I then think we should give North Melbourne Josh Battle, our second round 2021 and Shane Savage to North for pick 2 and their 2nd round pick 2021. We then give North’s 2021 second round to GWS for Jye Caldwell.

Pick 2: Deven Grainger Barrass
Pick 5: Bid on Breaden Campbell, (props matched)
Pick 6: Zane Trew.

The trades:
One
De Goey, (outbuy Collingwood, 1.5M over 4 years)
Two
North get: Josh Battle, Shane Savage and a 2021 second round
St Kilda get: Pick 2 and a 2021 second round
Three
St Kilda get: Jye Caldwell
GWS get: North 2021 second round

Is JDG an RFA already? Surely not..

With absolute respect DeGoey will not leave Collingwood...they will do a deal Exactly as drug cheats did with
Shiel........and Eagles did with McGovern ...

Would really doubt Battle is up for trade , from what I’ve been told from person inside club ...Ratten loves him
as long term player.

Rather he like him as a short term player starting with round 2.

I hope so.

You hope we don't get De Goey or Battles stays? We wont get De Goey but that would be a huge win and surely we need to keep Battle but if North paid pick 2 for him he can go tomorrow.

Battle. I would keep him, the Saints seem to have a knack for turning gold into turds. He'd become an AA at another club and we'd find some nuffie that retires after three games in 12 years after signing him to a long term contract.

I'm not seeing DGB as a target for us tbh.
Sure, he's up there as a talent and l like what I've seen but a top 5 pick for a medium sized defender when we're overloaded with them, l don't see the value.

Battle played CHB off of one preseason of practice, in what was effectively his 2nd year. Plus we have Robbo, Wilkie and Clav for the roll DGB plays.
I think selecting him would kind of just push the rebuild further behind.

Trew sounds like what we need. I don't think there'd be any objections on that one, but personally I'm dubious on physically developed kids because they have an advantage in juniors that doesn't translate to AFL.
I look at Brayshaw at freo. He's gonna be a good player, but not special. In hindsight, overrated for his pick number.
Perhaps Connor Stone would be a guy I'd target if he came cheap.

We've got some list issues to deal with still. Mids get the attention, but we do need a quality small forward and KPF depth.
Since the top group of kids this year isn't that flash I'm just looking at where the value is in the draft range, and since pick 20 could end up as 25/26 l think later is probably better this year.

Definitely thow a bucket of money at JDG, but next for me is Williams and Caldwell.
Getting those two would be enough.
After that I'd be after a slider in the 3rd round and a DFA. 4-5 new acquisitions this year, and 3 or so next year, including Ben King...

100% agree with you’re statement about DGB. I just think that in my own mind he is a talent kid. Drafts for picking up talent and the trade table is for needs, but I think if we have one pick in the top 10 it has to be Trew.

Battle being played in defence at all proves that we have a need for a DGB, look at what happened in R1, the midfield stopped and the defence were manhandled by North. If Battle going out gives us the ability for a kid like Barrass, he goes.

Personally, I’m not a huge fan of Stone, I think someone like Sam Berry better suits our needs and will be about the same range 15-20.

Mids do need attention hence Trew over DGB, but I think it forward line is our best group, maybe minor tweaks at the trade table, but no forward in the first round.

For this trade period to be a success Caldwell must get to the Saints, (if he leaves GWS). JDG is one of those players like Hilly, just bleeds class, Williams would also be good, nice endurance, disposal, etc, but if I’m picking between JDG or Williams it has to be De Goey.

However I think there are enough talents this year at the draft to verify a first round pick. At the trade table Caldwell and two of (Crouch, Wines) or (De Goey, Williams), would make me very happy. Brackets indicate players that I’d be happy to recieve one off. E.g Crouch or Wines. At the draft I’d love to walk away with both DGB and Trew, but would also be satisfied just Trew, as he is a good inside player and gets his own ball, e.g our biggest need.

Correct, all of that is no chance.

Okay trade might need some work, but if there are questions about Battles future at the club this is the year. What about:

North get: A future 1st, pick 5 and Battle
Saints get: Pick 2, pick 7 and a future 2nd

On trade future 2nd for Caldwell. Boom.

You can then either keep Savage or trade him and keep an older player e.g Brown, Gears, etc. I think from the draft class Sav is properly anywhere from 30-45 in compensation.

Yes I really hope we keep him but wont be surprised if he moves on
