You can take one of Ben King or Taranto right now, who do you take?
Taranto would have to be one of the most highly valued young midfielders in the league right now, could say the same about King as a key player I guess, but Taranto is on another level and fits a crucial need for us.

Hard running good users. Eg Brad Hill.

Outside of our starting players, we don't really have many! Probably Savage is as good as we have. GWS surely wouldn't have the cap space to take in players anyway. I think we'd be trading out players elsewhere to get sufficient picks for GWS. I can't see us getting any other player this year who could fit our needs as well as Taranto. Question is, will the AFL let him leave?

It cant get done this year with such a compromised draft and 2 years left on his contract.

Hahaha!!! Welcome to the party pal! Now you know how every other club felt when the Suns and Giant came into the comp!

What is your source in the club ? I’m not asking for names . Is it a player , coach , runner , admin or otherwise.
Cheers

Pfft. Don't answer that owen!

I just don’t see why the Giants would entertain the idea of Taranto leaving in any way while he’s contracted. 22 years old, b&f winner, former pick 2. Surely you’d just flat out say no deal.
Giants said a couple of days after their season concluded, that if any player didn't want to be Here, then pack your bags.

It seems logical that GWS can offer Caldwell a juicy contract (despite needing to find $1m in savings from their salary cap) if a highly paid player like Taranto is leaving. In the media there have been snippets about Toranto being unsettled for a while but never did I think it conceivable that he could leave.

GWS also need to find the money to pay for Jeremy Cameron’s contract. They are under pressure, logically something has to give with players like Cognilio, Greene and Kelly on huge long term deals. In the next year or two they also need to lock away players like Hopper and Green with a reduced salary cap. The reduced cap maybe the straw that breaks the camel’s back.

I don’t know what their academy talent is like this year and next year but maybe GWS have decided they need more early picks and it’s time to bite the bullet and make the best of a difficult situation. I heard on the radio that they don’t have a 1st RDP this year, if true it could be a major consideration for them. I’d imagine Toranto would be two first rounders with a pick coming back. I’d pay it (assuming he passes a medical).

We get first rounder for Zac Williams and a second rounder for Aidan Corr.

Good targeting of a player that fits a pretty clear need inside after the disappointing output of Seb Ross along with the absence of drafting a real quick starting midfielder.

I do look at the Shiel deal and see its not all or nothing targeting a ready made, in that it doesn't automatically fix a football side.

But if you can get basically guaranteed young and ready talent I think you always have to.

They have cap problems and a surplus of quality inside mids.

Taranto wanting to come home and gws being open to a trade doesn’t surprise me at all. I’m sure st kilda know the price and have a plan to get it done. The bottom line is that if Taranto wants out and nominates the saints then it will get done Imo.

Its happening!!!!!

"Homesick midfielder Tim Taranto says Greater Western Sydney have failed to adjust to the extraordinary circumstances of the season"

"[I'm] definitely missing home," Taranto said. "

I think Lloydy and Caro have been reading old news headlines and have put 2 + 2 together and come up with 5 years @ $1.2 m per year at St Kilda.

Lloyd just said on Footy Classified that Taranto is number 1 on our board right now. We are going very hard.

Caro backed it up.

This was always the plan...

Love ya Caldwell but with the Giants now paying you 700k a year to stay, the room for TT's "Mega Deal" is gone.
