Taranto!!!!

I knew I loved trade period more than finals.

This makes so much more sense than Caldwell. Taranto being in the AFL system for 4 years, played finals and bigger bodied. Love it! Nothing against Caldwell but he wouldn’t be bolstering our midfield stocks he’d be a developing player like Bytel and Byrnes.
Hope we can get it done! We are a club to be these days.

I’m not mad about trading Gresham more the reality that sometimes you need to trade quality players to get the pieces you need.

The AFL seems to generally be resistant to this concept whereas in other sports it’s just a common place part of business. This approach does have its own challenges though when you have salary cap obviously you need to hit the draft as well.

There are a couple of players on our list I’d be reluctant to trade based on the cost and availability of a replacement but that’s about it.

Id rather get rid of the dead wood than trade a very good player to get another very good player , not making much sense to me trading Gresh , Anyway it will never happen IMO

Wouldnt make much sense.

Bringing in a player like Taranto is to strengthen the midfield. Trading out Gresham to get Taranto in wouldn't be doing much to make our midfield better.

This list management crew don't mind making unpopular decisions. I hope they don't but wouldn't be surprised. You lose a gun who is a good mid and great small forward but gain a near elite mid.

Lucky I’m alive! The US riots was nothing I ever want to witness again. But yes - didn’t feel like moving back to Melb with the tail between my legs, so randomly choose GC for a few years. Great decision in hindsight and couldn’t be happier.. I’ll be cheering loud and proud this Sat. What an amazing year.

Fair but when the company line is that we need to add quality to our midfield, trading out one of our best midfielders to bring in a slightly better midfield isnt making the midfield much better.

That would take our midfield from a 6 to a 7. But having both Gresh and Taranto in there would take us to an 8.5 midfield.

Absolutely, the only problem is that nobody else is interested in giving up much for our deadwood.

If we have a choice of just trading draft picks for a Taranto rather than a Gresham for example then at present clearly that’s the best option. It won’t always be the case though, taking draft picks is important not just for young talent but also to help manage the salary cap.

I personally don’t have a problem with trading talent if it improves our side, players come and go the St Kilda football Club remains.

Man.. it was so surreal. Happened so quickly. Managed to get the family back not long after lockdown. I had to stay to look after my business interest there and negotiate subsidy from the NY government until I can get back when things ease.

It was the most frightening time of my life. One to lose all my investment I’ve worked on for the past decade overnight and secondly general fear. Was staying in SoHo and the rioters broke into our building. I had 3 families huddled up in my apartment for a week in fear of getting killed.

All good now. The nerves are settled and the past month has been amazing watching the boys. Bring on this weekend!

The way I see it GWS lose one to save 3-4.
Taranto falling out, means they can up their offer to Cameron & Caldwell and extend Green. The fact they’ve resigned Mumford (assumably for peanuts) screams that that dam wall on their cap is about to explode.
Can’t imagine a side with Cameron, Kelly, Coniglio, Whitfield & Green to have any flexibility in retaining players unless they shed contracts.
