Taranto would be like our Dangerfield or Neale signing. Elevates us into the top bracket of the competition. If you have to give away two first rounders you do it.

Don't trade out Gresham in my opinion, he was superb this year before getting injured.

If we are after a guy like Taranto then anyone with currency could go. Doesn't bode well for Lonie.

Which of our players are untouchable? Because they’ll be the first ones they ask for.

Its not a matter of "untouchable" its what we get out of the deal.
If you have a 2016 Hilux and you buy a new Ford Ranger, you can get rid of your old Proton ute and move double the stuff .
If you trade your Hilux on your Ranger , you're just a bit better , and the repayments are higher.

I always think there is a limit to how many players we can import , it worries me that we pay them overs to get them to move, and if we keep it up long term we'll come up against the cap.

Coffield , out of contract 2021. If he continues to make advances he's due a big pay rise.
Carlisle , who the hell knows. Potential opening up of cap.
Jones , probably getting paid above average.
Gresham, will probably demand more by 2023.
Hill , on big money
Steele, could be on 750k ish.
Hannebery , has three more years before we get his money back onto the cap. ( could be front loaded , i hope ).
Clark, as with coffield, could be asking for big money by the end of next season if he continues to develop.
King. In two years will need to be paid commensurately to the best player in the AFL, his brother will be jibing him if he earns less.
Marshall. Will want a big increase by the end of 2022.
Howard. Is probably getting more than he was at Port.
Paton. If we keep him, we'll pay him.
Wilkie. Will realise that he's an above average player.

Then there are any of our young guys who may turn out pretty good. Byrnes, Bytel, Bell....

Every time we prise a player from another club we pay them overs. So its not just a matter of...he's good , throw money at him.

People who don't like how we spent a decade out of finals might want to look at the reasons our team disintegrated after 2010, while the Hawthorn and Geelong machines kept steaming along.

If Bruce got a pick in the 30s and a pick in the 50s surely Lonie would only get a pick in the 40s at best. It's hardly worth bothering with trading. You'd probably get a worse player in the draft.

Gresh could play forward most of the time if Taranto came. Gresh and Butler as the small forwards. Steele, Taranto, Jones and Clark as the main midfielders. Would be great.

They cant afford the contact for marshall, they cant afford the contact for any of our major players, picks and Carlisle is there best option...

That's why i think Webster is a good fit for them as well. He's probably underrated here, certainly not out of his depth at AFL level and not on huge money.
They have enough playmakers in their team and Webster is a bloody good role player.

True but I'd rather spend a shit load on Taranto than Hanners or Hill. You are paying market value for a near new top of the line Benz rather than a 20 year old BWM with 400,000kms on the clock and a serious knock in the engine.

This is only my opinion. But I would trade the future for Caldwell and Taranto.
Take our firsts and seconds.

trade Carlisle and Lonie

try bring in Ben Brown for Carlisle.
Job done.
Got to the draft with 4th and 5th rounders for all I care.
Was vigorously nodding reading this until you mentioned Ben Brown

GWS could do a lot worse than pick up Savage and Webster. They need some good bedrock players.

Ben Brown , Why ?

Lonie will be lucky to stay on the list with or without Taranto. Can't see any currency there, maybe $0.50 in a $1,000,000 deal. Gotta find the other $999999.50 somewhere.

Lonie is our 2nd best pure small forward.

Criminally under rated by some supporters.

Lonie could get us a third rounder. We saw last year that we made a lot of the trades work for us. Even the Steven token pick got used to get Hill.

I'd prefer to see us keep Lonie as I love what he brings to the side.

If we could get a high first rounder for Gresham.....jump on it. Send 2 firsts to GWS and you have effectively got Taranto for a first and Gresham....we make like bandits.
I think we would more look like idiots not bandits if we did that
