The league will have already given all clubs a decent ballpark on cap and list sizes well ahead of any public announcement.

Might be waiting till the end of the season. I reckon both the AFL and Channel 7 will have been rapt with how the season has panned out and there might be some behind the scenes negotiations about the re-negotiated broadcast contract that might see some more pennies (ie $millions) come back to the AFL.

I remember last year I said we are heavily into a player the media haven’t named yet. I didn’t name the player, because I didn’t know at the time. Fishing comments were everywhere. It turned out to be Dougal. I do have sources but i don’t speak regularly. Now I know what it’s like on the other end.
And no-one has leaked it? Must be a different AFL.
Its not so simple to reduce the list sizes.
What happens to contracts?
For example , can a club like StKilda be expected to retain McKenzie but let Paton go, because of contract status.
Or will they be free to pay out contracts?
But if they pay out contracts, it goes against the goal of saving money in 2021.

Wonder if there's a direct correlation with MG posting about the confirmation a day after our finals win. Wonder if J... 'the player' watched it and said yep im in you cheeky bastards, or it just happened to play out at that point in time by coincidence. Would be surprised if a player based such a big decision on one game, but it certainly was one hell of a game.
