Apologies for any inconvenience. We will try to find a replacement.
Usually he only gets offered one year. It will be interesting to see if he gets two this year.
I really don't understand why we wouldn't be doing everything possible to keep Jake. Feels like it's a backwards step letting him go. Absolute gun IMO and has a few years left.Watching the Ryder and Carlisle send off video and Carlisle at the end talking about being emotional because he knew it was his last game......then a pause and...”well for this year anyway”.
Sounds to me like he’s gone, not sure what other targets we might have our eye on but we will miss the Jake Carlisle that played Saturday night. He and Howard really clicked and with Lynch and Riewoldt up on Friday I hope someone can come in and be as effective.
Looking through the players OOC list nothing really stands out so will have to be another left of field.
Would have been good if we'd taken a shot at Hugh Greenwood, over and above Hill.I reckon the stats guy we got from the Hawks is the money ball man. Howard, Jones and Butler are all stats that matter types.

I'm personally going from what I read on here which I suppose is pretty silly. I hope to god we keep him.Do we actually know that this is the case or are we adding 1 plus 1 and getting 3? I read an article the other day (read so many I can’t remember which) that we were keen to have him stay. Maybe he wants more years than we want to give? Hopefully still sorting things out based on list requirements and budget for next year.
Depends on his back I would suggest. If he has a degenerative intervertebral disc(which he does as a best case scenario), the writing could be on the wall for him going forward.I'm personally going from what I read on here which I suppose is pretty silly. I hope to god we keep him.
If not it's another need we have to fill instead of focusing on Mids. Just lock him away for 2 more because he is a bloody good player IMO.
We have to have a replacement for him , someone as good but we are limited to one late round one pick and our next is not till round 4 , so it gives us not much to trade with.Do we actually know that this is the case or are we adding 1 plus 1 and getting 3? Without knowing what DMac is on and the same for Lonie, it's a bit of a pointless complaint, for all we know Lones is getting as much for a single year as DMac is getting for 3.And we gave what? 3 to McKenzie?
Rayner, Brayshaw, Cerra all very good. Naughton likely the best of the lot. Wouldn’t swap any of them for Coff and Clark. We alsolutley cleaned up in the 2017 draft.
I'm biased of course, but I believe we have the two best players out of the top 20 taken.
(I wanted Clarke and Bonar)

Could be a shot at number 6 too who I reckon is under peformong nowWe alsolutley cleaned up in the 2017 draft.

Obviously.............. its Darcy MooreIf Carlisle is leaving at the end of the year, surely we have a gun back lined up?

Based on this years ladder positions, we got Dougal Howard and Paddy Ryder for Pick 16 (equivalent). If you rate Ryder as a late 3rd rounder that means Howard (a more established player than Caldwell) cost about Pick 22 for his 5 year contract. The telling factor in deciding caldwells pricetag will be what each team has tabled him.
If it is accurate that we and gws have offered him 4/5 year deals, he's gonna cost our first.
No-one, not even us, was offering steele 5 years when we got him as a future 2nd.
His trade cost and contract offers by both sides represented the speculative prospect he was at that stage.
Caldwell is evidently considered a far more sure thing than steele was- by us and gws.
We of course could try and hardball the giants because he's uncontracted- but that adversarial approach doesn't seem our way.
And rightly so- gws and the suns will continue to leak elite talent back to victoria for years... we are best served trading fairly with them so they continue to deal with us professionally.

He looked very stiff and restricted on the weekend, especially during warm ups. I was surprised to see him pick up a few ground balls in the game, he’s that stiff. He’s managing it but looks in pain and it wouldn’t want to get worse.Depends on his back I would suggest. If he has a degenerative intervertebral disc(which he does as a best case scenario), the writing could be on the wall for him going forward.
The club is right to exercise caution on any contract extension, subject to a thorough physical examination by a back specialist. I would say reading between the lines he has limited movement that will likely not repair.
It helped us that Howard was almost pushed out the door.Based on this years ladder positions, we got Dougal Howard and Paddy Ryder for Pick 16 (equivalent). If he costs us our first I'd be expecting something back!!
